Subject: My Faith in 343 Industries

I'm a lead farmer, mother lover!

Well people, in the days and months to come we will undoubtedly see more and more leakage of information come from 343 Industries and what they're planning to do with the future of the Halo franchise. Of course since Microsoft is behind it there will be a lot of sell outs and promotions to be expected - toy lines increased, possible movies being pitched at a greater rate/more possibility of it existing. Let's understand what 343 Industries has done so far with Halo:

Increased the canon by publishing the following books: Crpytum, Evolutions, Ghosts of Onyx (and forthcoming sequel), and several quality comics with association of Marvel
Halo: Waypoint
Halo Wars and continuing support in conjunction with Robot Entertainment

All that above gives me a lot of hope for the future of Halo. The canon explored has added depth and intrigue, especially Cryptum. Halo Wars is arguably the best console RTS ever created and a game on many peoples lists of top RTS games ever made. Waypoint while simple in form is a fantastic hub to relate all of your relevant Halo data in one place.

I've got some faith in 343i, how bout you?

EDIT: In no way is this bashing the work btw that Bungie has done thus far. I think we can all agree its sad to see them go, but I am however looking forward to what this new team, which includes many of the original founding members of Halo, can do. Frank O'Connor just to name names.

When detonated, it compresses its fissionable material to neutron-star density, boosting the thermonuclear yield a hundredfold. I thought Ensemble studios made Halo Wars

They did, you're correct but since their dissolution 343 Industries took the reigns on supporting the product with Ensemble Studios descending company Robot Entertainment. Also during development 343i was consulted for plot details and environment development as well.

I don't care. I really don't.

Yes, I do. Bungie started going more into "shoot the alien cause it's an alien" sort of games in the last two, rather than Halo 1, which introduced the universe, Halo 2, which went more into the Covenant, and Halo 3, which went more into the Forerunner. 343i so far seems to be trying to continue in the path Bungie originally set instead of "alien! shoot!" that Reach and ODST, although incredible, engrossing games, spiralled into.

P.S. 343i helped out because Bungie wasn't always availible for reference because Bungie was making ODST and Reach.

I can't understand why everyone thinks 343 is going to do a terrible job when they haven't even made a Halo game on their own yet.

You can't really judge a game company that hasn't even properly announced the game they're making yet.

I have faith in 343.

See you on the battlefield.

Since 343 is made up primarily of ex Bungie employees and high profile community members, 343 shoudl make a decent product.

Assuming exectutive meddling on Microsoft's part doesn't cause stupid things to happen.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

I'll have to play their first game to really say that I have trust in them. They've done a good job, so far. But, that doesn't mean they won't do bad on a game. So, I'm indifferent for now.

When I grow up, I want to be just like goofenhour.

I've got faith they will make a game that is filled without contradicting the canon, but I don't know how it will stack up against a "Bungie" Halo.

Well, if 343i makes a difficulty level called "Canon" I'll be happy. By canon I mean the game represents the shields and health in the books, I think that would be fun.

Yes, even one Bungie member that goes to another company is enough to have faith in.

A lot of their stuff is good, but I can't forgive them for Halo Legends.

I keep hearing people on the forum here say that there are a lot of ex-Bungie people at 343. Is there an actual source on this?

That has become quite a myth. There is actually only 2 I believe. Frankie O'Connor, and some other dude who I can't remember his name.

I doubt Bungie employee's would leave to work for 343 under Msoft. Honestly I have little faith in 343 because if the next Halo game comes out Msoft will only care about profits and not about new exciting story lines and innovative game play. By the way is there any official word on the next game or is it all just rumors?

"Were it so easy..." -Thel Vadame.

I have never had doubts about what they plan to produce. I think they know that they are handling a massive universe and their #1 priority is to create a great game like the first 3 with a great story involving some major aspects of the Halo Universe and unending gameplay.

I see no reason to doubt 343.

Ever Heard about Halo Reach by Bungie?
Seems to have all the problems you accuse 343 of, bad storyline, made for profit and not replay value/*pure fun, not very innovative gameplay etc :(
Our hope is on 343 because they can make Halo THE FPS again, not just "another FPs that gets kicked by CoD". Really, Halo had awesome story, great (fun) multiplayer, and good forging.
Reach had bad storyline, decent multiplayer lacking only maps and team balance, and decent forging (only forgeworld-palette?).
True, MS can make Halo worse but I doubt it, they know they need to make Halo strong and Reach was the MW2 of Halo games. The glorious sequel that everyone loved, and then saw all the flaws and got annoyed while the creators went on to new stuff. -_-

Still, we can blame MS and Halo for limiting Bungies creative potential and beeing 0partly reason why Reach was sub-par to the earlier games. Maybe Bungie just got fed up with Halo, Halo and Halo?
They wanted to make something new, innovative and free no matter cannon and rules. Now they have a chance, if they make a great game again, like the ones they used to, we're all winners :)
If they don't, we still got 343 or can just get a PS3 and enjoy the greatest and latest by Naughty Dog and many more ;)

  • 01.15.2011 9:10 AM PDT

Yes it is spelt like that on purpose.

I agree wuth all your points JurtEJ, Bungie has created an incredible world with a lot of depth. Now that Bungie is leaving Halo I can see no company that would be better suited to continue the franchise than 343. I have high hopes for them and hope they do an amazing job.

That being said I am also very much looking foward to Bungie's new IP and wonder what they have in store for us next.

Nope. There's only about 2 confirmed employees, but for some reason that became "made up of primarily ex Bungie employees."

Nathan Wapole. One of the former Bungie animators. The dude that does the Brute animations in the Halo 2 making of documentary.

That's it as far as known Bungie employees. Frankie may have worked on Halo 2 and 3, but it was only as a PR guy and minor writer. So game wise there really isn't anything going for 343 in terms of experience.

Well, 343 Industries does have a few former Bungie employees, but 343 does have plenty of members in terms of experience in making games. After all, they did hire 20 former Pandemic developers along with people from Gearbox and countless other places.

In regards to my post it was pointing out that the OP is seriously misinformed about Bungie employees experienced in making Halo games, not games in general. Not only that but none of those "few" former employees are the "founding" employees that came up with Halo as the OP is trying to get across. Hell even Frankie isn't a "founding" member.
