The radition emitted by Fuel Rods makes it impossible to the Flood to transform in Hunter into a Combat Form.

Although the Hunter's bodymass is sufficient to sustain the Flood, the Flood refuse to infect them. All Hunters have a condition called Boran's Syndrome and the Flood don't want to take over an infected (weak) body. Its also the reason why Sgt. Johnson can't be infected by the Flood.

They never said that Hunters had Boron syndrome.

Something being wrong with Hunters is the most plausible answer.

The Hunter Combat form would probably be the most impressive and badass Flood around. Bungie didn't put them in the game for a reason, not because 'they didn't have enough time'. This lifeform we call the Flood can obviously sense what would make a good host, so they simply wouldn't pick anything that is ill (Animals can do this. Rats run away from infection and some animals can sense mates with infections and will refuse to reproduce with them).

I read a theory about my Hunters can't get infected on HBO somewhere. They said it is because of a illness all Hunters are born with called Boron's Syndrome. I'd go with that but the thing about the radiation from the fuel rod gun seems plausible too/

The hunters armor is the toughest of the covenant, it is possible that the sensory tentacles that normally protrude form the infected’s chest couldn't penetrate the armor.

The hunter also carry a the heavy arm mounted shield that could be to heavy for the infectious forums to support.

If the hunters do in fact have Boron’s Syndrome, why didn’t they receive the same side effects as Sgt. Johnson?

No, the armor wore by the Bruces is the toughest. If you haven't noticed from the elites and humans, they aren't wearing armor and stuff. All of that stuff falls off, when the infection forms spread through out their bodies.

The shield being to heavy? They can knock you into next week with those tentacles they have. And they can hold a rocket Launcher with only one hand, they can jump about 50ft in the air. Now, do wish to rethink your statement?

The reason why they didn't recieve the same side effects is because they are different from the human race. If two different species are infected with the same disease doesn't mean it will react the same.

I'm with 'Insa Nosalee' with this one. A Hunter can handle Boron's syndrome better than Humans can. Its as simple as that. If a creature has the disease it makes it unsuitable for the Flood to take it over. The simple fact that the Flood want the strongest possible host means that they won't take over something that is ill, even if it doesn't seem to affect it.

shouldn't we be happy that the flood didn't infect the hunters, can you imagine a flood with tankish amour, a fuel rod gun and a sheild thats proberly twice as fast, and might be too fast to let you see its back. That would make hunters a challage now that i think about it.

After a little research:

Bungie said that they didn't have quite enough time to get to finish making the flood the way they wanted to due to the push of the xbox launch. The reason why the pace of the game slows down in the flood levels is due to that fact they wern't entirely done with -well maybe not done, just didn't get to put in all their ideas- the level the way they wanted to.

Second thought: Borens Syndrome was cause by over-exposure to radiation in a plasma grenade crate shipping. Since the Hunters are naturally born -assuming- and/or carry with the fuel rod cannons that emit radiation the flood could have just shrugged them off...

Then again we don't see many Hunters in the Flood levels either <33

I was the one who posted that in HBO! My theory was that they either were irradiated from the Fuel Rod Gun or are irradiated by the Prophets to be their unwitting slaves!!!! BWAHAHAHAHAHa!
I really did send it in to HBO. I did send in the bit about the Hunters sort of being irradiated to be more obediant, but that part was somehow lost.... (conspiracy theory, anyone?)

Creatures exposed to radiation develop borem's disease which makes it so anyone with the disease is immune to flood infection. Yes, they can have flood stick the dna inside them, but as soon as it hits the blood, it becomes dormant because the host has a more powerful infection that makes it so they are ineffective. I'm not sure why it works that way, we just know it does. Hunters don't have regenerative capabilities because they don't have flood dna in them. Flood can't infect the sarge completely, but it makes it so if anyone gets the flood dna from him, the dna will become active and infect the person. That's why there was the theory about Saregeant Johnson being a Trojan Horse.

It has nothing to do with Hunters being too obedient, because they aren't. They were given the option to join them or be eradicated. They follow the covenant, but if they ever had a chance, they would try to break free. It would have to be a chance where they were guarenteed saftey though. But, they aren't. That's why they don't join the humans. They don't think the humans will win the war, the covenant outnumber them about 100 to 1. If it was a matter of obedience, the elites would be the ones immune. They are one of the two founding species of the covenant. Why would they blow apart any covenant that marines/mc uses for cover against them? Because they don't care about them. They aren't loyal, they joined so they could survive. Haven't you ever been surrounded by a group of grunts only to have them blown away by a hunter? I have.
