Halo 1 & 2 for PC

Subject: No video in Halo CE

The first time I ran my copy of Halo CE it ran perfectly.

Now, not even a full re-install can get it to run properly. If I run it, it goes to the first "welcome screen" (The word Halo in the Halo ring itself) and then the video cuts out and shows my desktop.

I can hear the music of the main menu, I can hear my mouse moving over the buttons, but I can't SEE anything.

Anybody know what's going on?

Have you tried to Alt+Tab it?

Have you tried to Alt+Tab it?

Attempting to Alt-Tab into it only takes me to the "desktop" and hides my mouse.

That is too say, it switches to the game, but it still isn't running any video.

Hmmm, same thing has happened to me with Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. Honestly don't know what to do, sorry :/

I want to know what could be different now, since It worked just fine the first time.

I haven't installed, uninstalled anything since then (that I can remember).

Also, it tells me I don't have enough RAM/system memory when I load it, and I have 4gb of RAM and a pretty good PC. Know why?

Maybe you could try installing the latest drivers for your graphics card.

Also, just make sure that your Windows operating system recognizes the amount of RAM your computer has.

I tried downloading the newest drivers, nothing changed.

How do I make sure the OS is recognizing the amount of RAM, and what else can I do to fix this problem?

50 in H2/H3? Great, but you still fail at this.

Install 1.09.

Also, try using driver sweeper and reinstalling your gpu drivers. My friend had issues with his ati driver for integrated graphics, even though only the dedicated nvidia gpu was being used instead.

Speaking of nvidia, their drivers blow.

Halo and my graphics card drivers are both up to date.

Nothing has changed.

If it helps, a message box entitled "Exception!" runs every time I close Halo (which is done by ending the task, since I can't see to exit via the escape button).

Oh right, I know the problem now. Nvidia drivers don't work well with Halo CE.

Why did it work the first time then?

And is there any solution other then getting a new graphics card?

Something smells fishy...

After you start Halo and it quits are you receiving a message like this:
"A problem occurred initializing Direct3D.
Hardware acceleration maybe disabled, please run DXDIAG"

Does Halo quit immediately before the introductory logo movies play?

Are you receiving an error message? If you are please specifically state what the error message says.

Also I don't believe Halo: Combat Evolved PC supports 64-bit operating systems. If You have a 64-bit operating system then that might be what is causing your video problems.

A message box saying "Gathering Exception Data..." and a title of "Exception!" appears when I exit.

I have to close Halo by either right clicking and closing the window on the task bar or ending the task itself.

I do have a 64-bit OS, but that still doesn't explain how it worked the first time.

EDIT: What. The. Heck!

I exited, and then went to the bathroom.

I came back and had a feeling, so I ran it. It works fine. I have no clue what has happened...

EDIT 2:
Actually, upon playing the game I noticed some errors.

In selection screen (e.g. map/gametype selection), my cursor disappears. Also, in games i notice large floating colored textures, as well as errors such as the game showing me as having no shields, my clip being empty with a few shots left, ETC.

Your GPU might be failing or overheating. Blow out all the dust.

Also, 1.09 adds support for x64 windows.
