Subject: Why all the ODST hate?

Contrary to popular belief, I am not actually a fat lady.

I've seen countless people who make new forum topics (mostly on Gamespot) that complain and whine about how much ODST sucks.
How does it suck?? It had a great campaign, the introduction of Firefight, which is a blast to play by yourself or with friends, an invitation to the Halo: Reach beta, and for people who love Halo 3, it had all the maps that were included with the disc, all the downloadable maps, plus some exclusive maps.
I think the reason people bash ODST is because they thought it was the next definitive Halo title after Halo 3. But in reality, it's not. It's meant to show you what happened between Halo 2 and Halo 3. It's meant to expand upon the world of Halo 3, you know, because the game is called Halo 3: ODST?!?
Just because there's no online multiplayer matchmaking, or forge, does NOT mean ODST sucks. It was a change of pace, yeah, but they pulled it off well. The campaign is inconsistent, but in a good way. One minute you're playing as the Rookie, wandering through the darkened streets of New Mombasa searching for your squad, and the next minute you're playing through action-packed flashbacks played from the perspective of your squad members. Firefight is a welcome addition to the Halo gameplay experience. The maps are great, and even though they've taken them straight from the Campaign, they still work really well.
And in addition to THAT, people who still play Halo 3 online can finally get their Recon armor.

It's because it was supposed to be an expansion pack but it got turned into a 60$ release. ODST is awesome though :D

δόξει τις ἀμαθεῖ σοφὰ λέγων οὐκ εὖ φρονεῖν.

Euripides, Bacchae. 480.

It is because ignorant cretins with no gaming taste cannot distinguish an excellent title from a bad one, and become mightily confused when having to differentiate prequels, sequels and expansion packs from one another.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

They're mad because it was overpriced. If it was $30 or #$40, I bet a lot of people wouldn't have complained. Also, when I first got it, I thought there would be multiplayer. Nope. I thought at least Firefight would have MM. Nope. So, it's reasonable that there's hate on it. Personally, I like the game a lot.

People care to much about where all the noobs go to play: matchmaking. Not enough people care about where it all started, the amazing story and campaign. Matchmaking is still a blast, i just think its drawing the wrong crowd (Immature people) and drawing attetion away from the campaign. Oh well at least its making bungie and the Halo franchise even more famous. You have to remeber CE didnt have matchmaking, and custom games gets pretty close to firefight when it comes to the level of fun, and YOU HAVE THE WHOLE -blam!- HALO 3 MULTIPLAYER INCLUDED!!!! Is that not worth 60 bucks?!

When i got it was $60 im pretty sure, but i got it on release date. You say 30 or 40 would have been fairer im thinking $50. But ten dollars or even twenty doesnt make much of a diffrence to me. Then again im only 15, i dont know much about money yet.

lol. I'm fifteen too. I don't know much about money, either. But, I know enough to see this game as more of an expansion then a full out game. Therefore, it should've been half-price ($30) or $40, max.

They only hate it 'cause it was overpriced, but it's still a good game.

I love the entire Halo series, Halo 2 being my favorite of the games. I think that the universe is compelling and the story is deep, sweeping, and powerful. The hidden layers in the Halo trilogy and rich details of the backstory in the novels are something I love to be lost in, and im greatly looking forward to the story that Halo: Reach will weave. Bungie has carefully and lovingly crafted a mythic tale that will stay etched in my mind until the end.

I dont hate it, i like it alot. But what makes it a weak addition to the franchise is the poor story. It had a good plot, but the dialog was horrible, cheesy, and did not fit well with the tone of the game. Since story in Halo is top priority for me, that i why i think it is weak.

Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity.

LOL in NZ it costs $35 which is the equivalent of $17 US I think ODST is awesome I especially like looking for audio logs.

It's the top priority for me too. Also, I know what you mean. At first I thought about how cheesy the lines were and whatnot, but then I realized it fit the characters personalities. I complained about how Mickey said, "Son of a gun." But, then I realized somebody like Mickey wouldn't say, "Son of a b*tch" or anything close to that. I don't remember much else being cheesy. I guess you could say the love story was cheesy, but I didn't think so. It was realistic and not too bad.

  • 01.18.2011 2:11 PM PDT

It aint' easy, being cheesy

I personally liked ODST, but still Reach was WAY better. ODST just felt like an expansion in so many ways.

  • 01.30.2011 1:48 PM PDT

I loved ODST. The soundtrack was great and I was amazed by the atmosphere of New Mombasa.

I love odst best halo game.

  • 01.31.2011 5:43 PM PDT

at first i didnt like ODST but after playing it more i like the game i do prefer the reach firefight but if ODST didnt have a firefight then the reach firefight wouldnt be as good as it is but the ODST firefight is still good and i do like the fact that with the extra disc you dont have waste micrsoft points on the map packs they come with the game so ODST is not the best halo game but its still good plus people that want recon can stfu and stop annoying the crap out of bungie and trying to get recon by asking bungie over and over again lying to bungie or some glitches they found that get you band so really we should thank bungie for making halo 3 ODST

I'm the cult of personality,
I call it like i see it, if i feel the need to be blunt and to the point, then i will, if i feel the need to be very detailed, i will, im here to stay and im here to do things my way, if you respect that or not is your choice, not mine,
and don't worry, while i don't agree with everyone's opinion, i do respect everyone's opinion.

i still don't get why people hate ODST
its campaign may not be long but its satisfying
for me it is the definitive Halo title

a great campaign
halo 3s awesome multiplayer
and all of the other features in Halo 3
plus FF is fun.
i didn't like halo reach's campaign as much as i liked ODSTs
i also prefer halo 3s multiplayer
if i had to pick one thing reach did well its forge
but for me that's it
heck i have more fun forgeing in halo 3 then reach
its more challenging
sure the multiplayer is ok but i don't enjoy it as much as i enjoy halo 3s.

simply put i enjoy ODST/Halo 3 i didn't like halo 3s campaign [i liked it the first time around but it got old the 3rd play through
i still play ODSTs campaign
its well done unlike halo 3 and reachs [imo]

Halo 3s campaign for me got old the mission where boring same for reach
sure reach did good on the story but the gameplay is what i don't like.
halo 3s gameplay/feel felt right it felt good
not to slow but not to fast
just right
and ODST continued that.

Halo 3s forge was fun
it took hard work to make a good map
custom games where very fun
and there where/are great maps out there
halo reach's forge just doesn't feel right...
i don't know how to explain it

reach's multiplayer does feel a bit slow at times unlike Halo 3

i could go on and on about how i like ODST/Halo 3 better then reach but that would be going a bit to far off topic

to be truthful i don't know why people hate ODST i guess they expected to much

I agree, Insane AlphaBeta. I liked ODSTs campaign better then Reach's campaign and I liked Halo 3's multiplayer better then Halo Reach's multiplayer. I think I'd have to say that Halo 3's campaign is better then ODSTs, but even still, ODSTs is beast.
