S-III, stands for Spartan 3, which if you don't already know, (I would imagine Halo Universe forum goes would already know) is a Project intended to make super-human soldiers that are fit for "high risk" (suicide) missions.

However, making 100's of Spartan-II's is very impractical, due to high costs. Instead, of MJOLNIR, S-III's have armour with slightly better deflective propities than ODST armour and an Active-Camouflage System. S-III's have similar Bio-Augmentations and Training to S-II's.

That's as far as I am going with detail.

Active-Camo allows for stealth game-play. S-III's are also more emotional than S-II's which allows for more drama in the story.
Certain S-III's were outfitted with MJOLNIR armour with Active-Camo, which would make for awesome game-play later in the game.

Since you can jump from mission to mission the game can be a good 20 hours long.

Multi-player could be very interesting.

It would be a spin-off, a good start for 343.

Fact 2: European guys are hotter

I guess I can understand if you don't want to make out with guys in the US if they're so ugly, you should just say so though.

Halo 3 v2 would be nice.

"And then of course, there is FISTO, for those of us who reject your soft human flesh in favor of Cold, Robotic, STEEL!"

So...you're proposing a more stealth oriented Halo game where you play as a true-to-the-book SPARTAN III. Yeah, it could work...if it was executed properly.

Here's my idea:

Gameplay should be less oriented on Lone-Wolf style rushing, and more on effective use of stealth and cover. Since proper S-IIIs lack MJOLNIR armor, they would be far far weaker than they're bigger brothers the S-IIs. 5-6 shots from a plasma rifle would kill you instantly, thus making stealth and cover essential. If your health bar drops below 50%, you start to suffer some side effects (reduced player movement speed and acuracy, or blurred vision.) A cover system much like the one found in Ranbow Six Vegas would be implemented.

Intelligent use of AI squadmates.
The player would be able to direct his AI squadmates to move to locations, attack hostiles, and provide suppresive fire to cover the player. They would be able to administer biofoam to treat the player's wounds should he require any once the area is cleared of all covenant forces.

heh I'm tired. I'll continue this little rant later.

Great idea, but when the health drops below 50% the player should acually become quicker, stronger and have better aiming skills. Since the last/latest generation of S-III (Gamma company) were in Project CHRYSANTHEMUM

And I suppose their armor technology would be simlair to Old Snake's Octoskin(?)

I think this game would be best in third person. :D

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I think a true squad game would be good, we could play as ODST's, fight some insurrectionists at the start and later on in the game we could face off against the Covenant.

I think a similar gameplay style to Republic Commando would make for an awesome game and the storyline could be all kinds of awesome depending on what setting is chosen.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

It would be interesting, but the distinct lack of survival would make it... difficult.

If you had a company of 300 Spartan-III's deployed for each mission, you should be able to use many of them.

Take Battlefield 2: Modern Combat. It had a system in which pressing the X (or Square, for Playstation) would swap between members of the squad. You could move and use each individually, and upon leaving one soldier, the AI would take it over for you.

Now, lets apply this to S-IIIs. We have 300 of them. Say, 4 Spartans are available in your squad.
You choose which one you are at the start of a mission (or it automatically makes you the highest-ranked one), and upon the death of that Spartan, you move on to the next in the squad.
Rinse and repeat until all four Spartans are dead: Mission failed.
Should you finish the mission with "leftover" Spartans, more are reassigned from other squads into yours (after each mission, to keep your squad at four members), and survivors are promoted (like TC's EndWar or Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood). As Spartans are promoted, starting weapons are improved and maybe health becomes better.
The campaign plays out and as Spartans inevitably die, numbers thin out leading to a "suicide mission" for a final mission.

This shifts the focus from Lone-Wolf Spartaning to squad-based, teamwork-style combat; as the Spartan-IIIs use.

Along with your squad are the 296-odd Spartans who will be spread out throughout the campaign; say if there is a lot of missions, you'd get maybe 10 non-squad Spartans per mission; except, of course, for 'bigger' canonical battles.
The first missions will play out with but a few Spartans outside of your squad (or maybe just your squad), and will slowly increase as the campaign goes on to make it 'epic': culminating in one final battle with all surviving Spartan-IIIs.

That is; if we're talking squad-based.
The alternative is ODST-style health-pack dependency.

/2 cents

I was thinking that the camapign should focus on the Spartans of Alpha Company, and their missions during the Insurrection of Mamore and Operation: PROMETHEUS. PROMETHEUS was basically a frantic 5 day battle to destroy a covenant shipbuilding yard.
Sadly, Alpha company never got any of the ZOMG!HAX upgrades that made the Gamma spartans so ferocious in combat.

It starts off slow, with the S-IIIs facing off against the Innies on Mamore. After hearing about them in the books and dialouge for over a decade, I think it's finally time we get to bloody the bastards up a bit. Now, these missions shouldn't be too tough, as they are basically training grounds meant to introduce the player to the stealth, cover, and AI teammate control systems. After the Innies at Mamore are dealth with, then the fun begins.

The player will recieve a glimpse of the S-III training facilities when they arrive on Onyx, and after a short debrief by Kurt, the resident badass S-II in charge of the camp, are packed onto a prowler with the other 300 Alpha Company spartans on route to sabotage a covvie shipbuilding facility on the outskirts of UNSC Space.

The Covenant are taken immediately by surprise. The player leads his squad of spartans in a mission to take out vital Plasma Reactors. The first one is taken down rather quickly, with only a handful of elites and grunts putting up light resistance. They hijack a covenant Spectre, or board a warthog dropped in by an orbiting pelican and proceed to the next reactor, where they rescue another squad of S-IIIs pinned down by a large covenant force. This will be the player's first encounter with hunters and a sword elite. Upon destroying this reactor, they fall back to a fortified rally point and proceed to hold off a massive attack by jackals and skirmishers throughout the night, with the seige only being broken by reinforcements in the form of UNSC Scorpion Tanks.

A running battle ensues, where the player mans one of seven Scorpion tanks to chase down and exterminate the surviving skirmisher attack force before proceeding to destroy three more reactors with the tanks.

-I shall continue this tomorrow, I'm out of ideas.

Nice idea with using innies as training. :P
To expand your idea about only playing as Alpha company, how about having 3 seperate campaigns (Alpha, Beta, Gamma) with like 4-5 missions in each campaign?

Alpha campaign:
Camp Currahee (Boot camp basically).
Insurrection of Mamore.
The Battle of New Constantinople.
Battle of the Bonanza Asteroid Belt.
Operation: PROMETHEUS.
In anyone of these missions could feature Carter, Jun and Emile as easter eggs, since they were from alpha company.

Beta campaign:
Camp Currahee (Again, but now only to show new armor upgrades and stuff).
Operation: CARTWHEEL. (Introduces Kat).
Operation: TORPEDO (Seems like a short
campaign, but imagine this mission as a HUGE map with multiple choices like attack strategies and stuff).

Gamma campaign:
Camp Currahee (One final time to show the latest upgrades and Project CHRYSANTHEMUM)
...
Basically any mission can be assigned since all of Delta company are in a unkown location, they could all be sipping tea while watching griffball for all I know. :P

EDIT: Corrected my mistake, meant gamma company not delta...

So you want to swap characters every now and then like in Halo 2 and CoD. Okay. I like it.

Should the events of Ghosts of Onyx be included? And do you think customizable armor like we have in reach would fit with the S-IIIs?

This style of campaign would be an excellent way to get to know the spartans of Noble team a little better, and really get to see what they can do.

----------------
On the topic of AI Squadmates again.

The player should be able to customize the loadouts of his squadmembers in SP. If you wanted to go all out, you'd let them customize their appearance as well. This would give the player more tactical options whith their AI buddies.

I don't really know about onyx, of course you would be there for the training grounds, but why destroy the book canon, just because it fits the second story better. :P

You should defeninetly be able to choose the loadouts for each team member or atleast choose their catergory, like grenaider or recon. Also while in combat you should be able to mark enemies of importance, basically your teamates would then try to shoot that enemy down, but if you tag an ally or a civilian, they should try to give cover fire to that tag.

When it comes to the customization of your character, you should be able to customize it at a greater length, like, more armory parts, color specific parts of your armor, and so on.

Spartan 3's would be invinceable

  • 01.22.2011 5:01 AM PDT

S-IIIs would be a great idea, but I want to see a game where you play as another S-II in training. Possibly the playable character could be SPARTAN 051 (Fred), that way it could go from training to a couple of missions as part of Blue Team and end in the the fall of Reach. Also, there could be a sequel where once again you play as Fred but in the defence of Earth and then moving to capture the Covenant ship and arriving at Onyx and the events that take place there.

It would be structured like this:

Part I
-S-II training
-Member of Blue Team fighting Innies
-Again, Blue Team but this time fighting the Covenant
-Protecting the Super MAC generators on Reach
-With Dr. Halsey, discorvering the blue crystal and being rescued by John in the Transcendent Justice.
-Possibly a mision about the encounter on the Unyielding Hierophant(Uneven Elephant(two squid kissing))

Part II
-Defence of Earth as Blue Team
-Boarding and hijacking the Covenant ship Blooded Spirit
-Discovering Onyx, coming under attack from the Sentinels and the 'emergency' landing.
-Fighting off Sentinels and coming across Kurt and the S-IIIs
-Moving ino Zone 67 and defending the artifact at the core of the plant with the other SPARTANS, Halsey and Mendez. Ends with the player being forced to jump through the hole and ending up in the shield.

Please correct me if I got Fred's service no. wrong as I'm doing this from memory.
