Subject: *Sigh* the bad news we were all dreading from Microsoft...

Halo Wars came out early 2009. So, therefore, 2008 lacked a Halo game.

Wow this news is from summer 2010,how old,how old.

I was hoping for some new info and then this comes...

thread=fail

If they try to make Halo games yearly it will ruin the series and nobody would play it including me which serves Microsoft right. I really like Halo but Microsoft might try to make it into a money making machine like CoD which just isn't possible for a halo game. halo games are meant to be quality and that's what fans have come to love. take that away and Microsoft has nothing.

  • 01.18.2011 8:13 AM PDT

Master Chief was clearly going to return in some way be it game, book or other media. Microsofy won't start 'milking' the franchise as they are business people and know that if you make a poor product i.e yearly releases then to one will buy the games and so lose money. They probably want a halo game of some kind every year ( could be a halo wars sequel or a spin off such as ODST ) but an FPS like Halo 3, reach ect every two to three years.

No, Franky shot the "Halo game per year" thing down a few days/weeks ago. Its not gonna happen.

Nope, he shot down any Reach sequels, if we're thinking about the same article/interview. Carefully pay attention to context.

Must not be the same interview. I clearly remember him stating that an annual Halo game series was too much.

Besides, this was never confirmed anyway. It was just a thought. They've already stated that the Halo story will be finished over the next 6 years so we have a deadline for when it'll be over.

I seriously agree with Wolverfrog. You're jumping to conclusions, and nothing will happen that goes against what the Halo Story Bible says was always supposed to happen anyway.

Let's just wait and see before we draw conclusions.

-I think he said that on HBO forums

-They only said that they had a 6 year plan for Halo, not that they would stop with it

I want Halo 4 on the next xbox and forerunner games

I like Master Chief and I want to know the rest of his story, but right now I'm kind of tired of Master Chief. I would like a few side-story games like ODST 2 or Halo Wars 2 or a completely different story that don't have Master Chief. Then, when and if Halo 4 does come out...I won't be tired of playing as Chief.

How can you be tired of him? He's been gone for more than three years now. There has been three consecutive games without him, it's about time he be brought back.

Yes,not to mention after the stupidy of Noble Team like Kat not being able to dodge a sword, only survived because carter pushed her away.
What were Mendez and Kurt thinking when allowing that -blam!- in the spartan III program, they were probably high when they did that.

Kat=fail of spartan

*shudders*

Seeing that fail team made me miss master chief even more then before.

I doubt you represent "us" as a community, so "we" are not dreading anything "you" say because you jump to what we call "conclusions".

Space. The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of Murphy's Laws on the StarShip Enterprise

We're not getting a new halo game yet - they need a good few years. Meanwhile, they can get the backstory together, as well as a few stories showing some of the years between H3 + H4. Then they can start H4 - they'll need time to make it, create the stories filling the gap and some new storyline. Also, they've milked the franchise enough, so they need a gap before creating a new game.

However, CoD's been milked more and more every year

It's just a game people!!! Chill out and have fun.
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a dicerner of the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. Hebrews 4:12-13 (KJV)

concerning the idea of Microsoft wanting to whore out the Halo franchise....What else would you expect.

"Kudos to Activision because they've done a good job building a good game, continuing to release each year".

I find this quote extremely funny. Was that guy talking seriously or was that sarcasm? Like really, everyone knows that every CoD after CoD 4 has been total crap. These days CoD is nowhere near a good game. It may be popular but that doesn't change the fact.

This far I have had hope towards 343i but now they just lost 99% of their credibility. I hope that doesn't reflect 343i's opinion as a whole and is only his opinion because we have seen what a game released yearly is like. It get worse and worse until it becomes crappy. Then it will continue going worse until it's unbearable. It will still keep going down until it meets the lowest possible level which is the same level where CoD currently.

NOTE: This is only my opinion on CoD and was partly exaggerated. I just saw that quote and my first thought was "Well, that must be the most controversial quote of the year".

Some can come away from reading "War and Peace" thinking it a simple adventure story, while others can read the ingredients on a gum wrapper and unlock the secrets of the universe.

I'm not going to tell anyone "I told you so", because I've done that enough with scarcely enough proof, but my opinion is that it's going to be straight crap from here on out. I've bailed the Halo wagon, and, in my opinion, wisely so.

Halo is degenerating into an ugly mess. It hurts me to say this but I am beginning to agree with Snakie. Cryptum was pretty great and all but it's going to take more than a couple good books to stop the ship from sinking.

I just hope 343 can keep the quality together while still expanding the story. Otherwise Halo is just going down the path of CoD.

BLAM!

Would it be totally whack if they created a game where you play Cole's role, or a shipmaster like him, in the counter attack at Harvest? - even if it is just a sequence for a level or something.

It'd be a different Halo experience altogether, but after reading a couple of the books, there is a lot of tactic and strategy going on during those Naval skirmishes.

just a thought..

Having just read both of those articles, all i can say is that you guys are speculating on something ONE GUY said to this reporter. And all he said was along the lines of - I think our old time frame of a halo game every 3 years isnt cutting it - which it isn't really --> you'd all be complaining about THAT.

That's not to say that they are ramping up production on everything Halo. It just means that this guy wants to cut those old timelines. He never said 1 halo per year (which would be rediculous, as nobody wants to have to constantly update and "adapt" to a new game every year, not to mention shell out $70/year).

You're jumping to conclusions

Based... based around articles?

and nothing will happen that goes against what the Halo Story Bible says was always supposed to happen anyway.
lol

Game development doesn't work like that, at least not usually. If the story bible even exists outside of an outline format (which I highly doubt; maybe not even an outline format) they're not obligated to follow it in any way.

Heh.

Why the hate? No, seriously, I'm actually interested now. I used to be a liked around here. Most of you used to be my friends, if you aren't now, or at least respect my contributions. I state my opinion, and because it involves the ultimate destruction of the likability of the series the lot of you suddenly dislike me? I state my opinions and talk about why I don't like what's happening due to my principals and suddenly I am the bad guy?

Right, welcome to the Universe forum, leave your preconceptions about society and business at the door and make sure to take your complementary fanboyism hat.

I speak what is true for me. Whether the lot of you like it or not, whether you think I'm jumping to rash conclusions or not, I merely speak what I see: money-grubbing and the universe slowly rusting itself to pieces because the company behind it can't be bothered to fix the issues that are plaguing it because they can use some of them for continuation of plot through some other marketable device.

The insults are getting a tad bit stale. Back off, children, and consider why you're attacking me like a virus. I have as much right here as the lot of you do, and I'm only stating my opinion. Just because it differs from your own doesn't mean you should attack me. That speaks of insecurity. Fear, maybe.

  • 01.18.2011 11:21 AM PDT

I'm only kidding really Snakie, I still like you. Your unwillingness to accept others' opinions due to a fair bit of arrogance (wonderfully demonstrated by your final few words in the above post) can be a little annoying but I can tolerate it.

And I'm not even that optimistic about Halo's future honestly. I'm on the fence, and felt like swinging to the other side to play Devil's Advocate with you.

343 might do a good job, they might do a bad job. There are better franchises than Halo anyway, so it's not a matter of huge importance. I'm not a Halo fanboy as I once was.

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, on the other hand...

I'm on the fence too, my cynical side says that it will become disappointing, broken, watered down, cliched or just plain old fashioned terrible. I hope I'm wrong, that's my optimistic side coming through. As soon as I hear that a Halo game/novel has an element of time travel then that will be the end for me.

I dislike that they feel the need to explain everything and all the things that made the Halo storyline so compelling and mysterious to being with. I have no idea why they think telling us everything about Forerunners is necessary. For me its similar to the unnecessary explanation of The Force in Episode I, reducing it to something dull and bland.

No, that's just the truth. Attacking me because of my opinion speaks of laughable insecurities in one's own opinion. You might've been joking, but there are others who have ranted at me as endlessly or even moreso that have not, and I said nothing more than what I've said here.

I'll give arrogance, because I undoubtedly do have it, but it's not about that, that's not why I override the opinions of others. I override the opinions of others because I saw Legends, I saw the Encyclopedia, I saw the Reach novel re-release... you can't make me believe something else when I've seen with my own eyes the quality of work they put into their products and the returns they expect on them. I have reason to actively dislike them, AND to believe the way that I do.

  • 01.18.2011 11:37 AM PDT

Here is what I have to say 'bout this stuff:

At first I disliked 343i. To be fair, though, most of that dislike came from Frankie's explanation of the whole Halsey thing in Legends.

Then I read Evolutions, and I was sort of like "Yah, this stuff is okay." But I still didn't like 343i.

Finally, I read Cryptum, which I personally think was a brilliant time period for the series to explore. Now I am actually wondering if future titles could be "good," just from this novel.

So, in my opinion, I personally think that if 343i explores areas of the series that I know little to nothing about, then I will be much more accepting of them than if 343i were to keep rehashing and retconning old material.

By which I mean "Stay away from already released content and the timelines that go with it, and move on to something new; for example: Forerunner/Precursor/Flood Time, Pre-War Covenant, and post-2553."

If they do that, I will tolerate it more than "Hey, look at this awesome death suit of death that has miniguns and gauss turrets and homing rocket and jets all over it, yet for some reason, we only built this suit on one planet with only one copy of the plans for it!"

Prototype was bad ass, though. Only the canonical discrepancies truly disappoint me.

  • 01.18.2011 12:57 PM PDT

Though I don't think the annual release thing is real, I trust 343 to stay true to the canon with any of thier new games and other media (comics, books, whatever) which they've done a great job of so far.

I hope they show something at E3 this year.

It's still three games within a 3 year time period (4 if you count Halo 2 Vista), and if the rumors of 343's Halo CE remake are true then it'd be 4 new games within 4 years. It's getting to the point of being oversaturated here.
