Map's original name: Infrastructure

I have been redesigning this map for what feels like forever. I go on and off with this forge map. Mainly because I wasn't the greatest at forging in the beginning. I picked up a few forging tips along the way, and now it looks much better than the original.

This map, Fonderia, is a re-imaged look to Foundry with the biggest change being that there is a neat, elevated structure that now takes you up. You can view a picture of it to get a better idea of what I mean. Just click here.

Background story:
This map project started way before I even had a chance to forge it. I used to play H3 a lot, but for a period of 3 months I didn't have xbox live. During that time however, I would keep envisioning, every so often, a map I wanted to put together. When I finally got a new xbox for christmas (2009), I began my first attempt at forging this idea. Being new to forge, I had no idea it would be such a hard undertaking. My first real design flaw was due to the fact that I envisioned the space of foundry to be much larger. Eventually, I had to lower the higher platforms. I wanted a pathway that goes from the back of foundry to incline to the ceiling height (which I envisioned the height to go much higher) and lead to a sniper on a high up platform. The design of the map was supposed to have much more elevation features, but the ceiling height prevented that from happening.

So as you can see, there is a big story that goes way back with this map. I gave up on it for a looong time, but I didn't want to let all my efforts go to waste. As excited as I was when Reach came out, I still wanted to get this map in decent shape. When the excitement for reach dulled down a little, I decided to finish this project. (I have to say, going back to H3, there are certain things about it that I admire that Reach doesn't fill)

What I basically did with the map was take references off the original Foundry map. By studying the layout, it gave me an understanding of where LOS should be and what areas should be blocked off (this really gave me a new found appreciation for the design of Foundry, as simple as it is). So the end result is a spin-off of Foundry with key elements I kept the same from my original plans with the map.

This is a forging experience that took place over a large period of time. I now enjoy creating well balanced maps and plan to continue doing so. BTW, I have switched over to playing Reach, but I wanted to pay tribute to H3's awesome gameplay with this map. I learned many cool things about forging, and having the opportunity to take huge lapses away from the map, and view it again with fresh eyes helped tremendously to see what was off and how to fix it (getting held up by viewing your creation in detail makes it hard to see the bigger issues). Some areas would be too cluttered with objects, but it's better to keep it simple so player movement can feel natural.

Part of what is so depressing about this whole experience is that even though I found a big appreciation for forging, I feel as though my time on all this map was a waste. The map is way over due and is something I should have completed a long time ago. On top of that, I never had testing done on it to make sure it plays well. If you wish to dl the map, I'd be glad to hear what you think of it. This map is for the H3 fans that haven't quit playing. I would love to know how good/bad all my efforts were on the map. Don't let my story shy you away from tearing apart my map with any of your criticism you have to give. I just want to know where I stand on this map.

That's all I have to say for now, thanks for taking the time to read!

Hope that convinced you to dl the map, and if you do, let me know what you think.

I'm not making excuses. I never claimed to be good. I have never played any colonel better than me though.

An edit has been made to my OP. Lots of time was spent making that post, but if you don't want to read it, that's cool. Just try to get a group of 4v4 and tell me how it goes. I want to continue to make changes, but I got to hear what people say about it first. Okay? cool.

It has been 2 months and I decided to make some key changes to the map.

>There is no 3rd level platform
>bases have been done to look more different then the default foundry
>spartan laser replaces rockets
>only 1 sniper, but with 2 clips
>deleted single box covering steps
>made lots of subtle changes of adding/removing cover

Some of these changes were due off the feedback I received. Give the map a chance with the update if you wish. It would be greatly appreciated!

I miss Foundry's forge palette.
