there is probably a scratch or fingerprint on the cd where the startup is located on it or there is something on your lens for your disc drive

If your drive can read other cd's just fine, the drive isn't the problem. Also, give us the type of drive you're using.

Is there an error message that appears when you try to run halo? Give us what the message says, word-for-word. Was there an error when you tried reinstalling? Something like a corrupt file?

Check the disc for scratches and dirt like the other guy said.

uhoh...............sounds like someone might need a new disk. I don't what kind of condition your disk is in (a picture would be nice) but mine is really, really scratched up as I never leave it in my disk drive. Either I've gotten very lucky and the important parts of the disk aren't scratched or because it's a CD-ROM it can be scrateched badly and still work. Either way that's probably your problem, a scratched disk, try running it under water and wiping with a soft cloth (like something you use to clean eyeglasses with)

I always use part of my t-shirt that isn't rough or dirty to wipe my cd's. Might not be the best idea if you have a really scratched disc, but it works for me.

If you disk is broken, you dont need to buy a new one just download a halo iso from limewire or something i think its legal so long you have the cd key and everything, cause what you really paying for is the right to use the game i belive, our you could get the image form halo and put in a imagionary drive with daemon tools.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

Then the solution is simple: buy a new drive.
Try this one.
That's the one I have and it works like a charm. It is a DVD drive too, so you can play games released on DVD only.

No it won't!
He said his CD drive won't read ANY discs, so that means it's not a software or disc problem. It's a hardware problem with the CD drive.
Get that DVD Drive that I linked to and install it. The game(and all other CDs and DVDs) should work fine :)

Go to gamecopyworld.com and download a 20 MB image file that you can use to start up Halo if you load it with daemon tools or something similar. It's what I do, and it's a lot easier than having to insert your cd every time you want to play.

EDIT: This is perfectly legal as long as you own the original Halo copy!

Someone suggested a similar idea using Limewire instead. Just a Caveat Emptor: be careful what you're getting along with that game copy. You might find a virus snuggled within...

If it works sometimes but not others, CHANGE the drive, as thay start to die thay will often be speratick and read and then not read.

Besides thay are cheep a DVD is the best bet {ROM $25 Burner $65}.

Ya. If you do get a new drive at some point, then get a DVD drive or a DVD burner drive. I have both and they both run any disc I throw at them. Also, more and more games are DVD only now, or they have DVD versions which are better than having 5 or 6 discs.
