Here's my advice to you son, its a life lesson you shan't forget.

Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't good for anything in particular, but it still makes you smile when you push them down the stairs

We don't know any details about what information Cortana and Halsey decrypted fom the Latchkey Artefact, other than that it was going to be a "gamechanger" in the H/C war... What an awful unfulfilled plot point...

Agreed

The gamechanger was halo. Are you guys seriously that dense that you cant make that connection?

because Halsey had figured out how to plug an AI back into a human brain (Master Chief's, who obviously had been augmented for the purpose), and this would be 'game changing' for the war

Spartan + AI ( + Assembly) = unstoppable force

proof? the games themselves are proof. you take down the Covenant and Flood pretty much singlehandedly, with Cortana

you don't even know wtf you're talking about. During the fall of reach, cortana was with chief the whole time. And I'm guessing you didn't even read the OP?

At the end of Reach, Halsey said that with Six's help, they found Halo. I still don't know how that is a game changer. I mean, showing a genocidal group of zealots an ancient superweapon seems somewhat counterproductive in my eyes.

You, good sir, have therefore missed the entire point of the Halo Trilogy story.

If we had not found Halo, the Covenant would not have questioned its religious beliefs and thus not broken into civil war and the Elites would never have joined, and we would not have discovered our role in the universe as humans.

The entire uiverse revolves around the creation and rediscovery of the Halo Rings.

Because that is a false statement. Cortana had no idea that halo, or anything significant at all would be present when they exited slip space. She didn't even know that the halo array existed. Have you even read ' The Fall of Reach?'

I disagree, imo the story of the games could be improved considerably. The epic factor was missing from a lot of the battles. We hear about these giant 500 ship covenant fleets, then at the end of all thing, at the climax of the entire story, when the covenant are about to acheive what they've gone to war with humans for 25 years over happens ---! not one but TWO scarabs!

Youd think the covenant would sacrifice all to protect the prophet. Imagine if the moment we got near the citadel the remaining covenant fleet over the ark abandoned what they were doing and immediately splispace ported directly over truths citadel on the arks, and likewise the elite ships followed them. Then while you were fighting the two scarabs on the ground this space battle of epic proportions was taking place right overhead.

Well, I think they were restricted by the system they worked on. Do you have any idea how much 500 ships would lag up the game? The 360 is getting old. 40+ enemies on the screen at once is a little over-ambitious. It would have been cool if they could have done this, but the 360 is becoming outdated, and likely couldn't handle it without extreme lag.

She obviously knew that something Forerunner was there, something important enought to be mentioned in the huge date cube under Sword Base. Cortana did not know exactly what Halo was but she understood that it was very important to reach it before the Covenant did.

Signatures are for squares.

What I find hilarious is Bungie breaking their own canon. GAME canon for that matter.

Halo CE: First spoken line:
"We made a blind jump...." - Captain Keyes

Reach has told us otherwise, nice job there Bungie.

Did you miss the part where everything about the battle of reach in the fall of reach was retconned? Have you even played halo reach? Apparently not.

I'd be happy even if they were just painted onto the background really. There are cutscenes in halo 2 with hundreds of ships around high charity, but when it comes to an actual battle things get rather dissapointing.

Per Audacia Ad Astra

Most likely Bungie wanted to make Halo: Reach seem like it was related to the novels.

What was the point in delivering the fragment of Cortana to Captain Keyes in Halo Reach? The game made it seem like she held vital information about the Halos, while the book simply states that Cortana was ordered to initiate the Cole protocol. In doing so, she 'remembers' the rock that was discovered on Cotes d'Azure, and how the symbols looked similar to an astronav map, and uses them for the slip space jump exit vector.

Seems like the complete opposite to me.

Are you guys missing the real answer?

Noble 6 did not need to deliver Cortana because Cheif should have already had her, in The Fall of Reach Cheif went on a training mission, already having Cortana in his armor, then the Pillar left. Thats before the invasion, the pillar was headed out of system when the Reach invasion force rolled in system, Keyes had to turn around and go back to reach to defend it.

If you dont believe me, turn to chapter 28 in The Fall of Reach.

The only changes that were made to the Battle of Reach are the dreadfull inconsistancies that were presented in 'Halo: Reach.'
And even then, it only insinuates that she obtained information about a Forerunner installation, even though previously published canon proves otherwise.

Side Note: Cortana doesn't even confirm that the Halo is Forerunner made until you access the control room
Exact quote: "This ring isn't a cudgel, you barbarian: it's something else...something much more important. The Covenant were right...this ring...it's Forerunner. Give me a second to access... Yes, the Forerunners built this place, what they called a 'fortress world,' in order to... No, that can't be. Oh, those Covenant fools, they must have known; there must have been signs!"

Watch through the cutscene again in Reach. Halsey didn't know what the info would lead to exactly, but was merely hoping that whatever it was would change the tide of the war. If she or Cortana knew from that data that it was Halo they would've answered Carter's question right then and there. Instead it was just a gamble to follow that lead wherever it led to. That's what was being implied in the scene. Ultimately whatever data Cortana recovered from the Sword Base artifact assisted in finding Halo in addition to the artifact from Sigma Octanus.

Clearly this weak plot device should've been explained better (more so because of the ridiculous "omg cortana is a forerunner ai" threads), but it's clear enough where Bungie was attempting to go with that.

Perhaps the "data" from the excavation at Sword Base was just coordinates to an area of space? And instead of telling anyone that it wasn't a random jump, she went to the coordinates and told everyone it was random.

Captain Keyes thought they had made a blind jump. He had no idea that Cortana knew exactly where they were jumping.

Or because the Cortana fragment held information about the Forerunners, and allowed Cortana to interact with their systems.

You know, like is actually implied. And not some bull-blam!- theory about Halsey and the Assembly.

She'd used Forerunner science to allow an AI be mapped onto a human brain, which would allow the Spartans to be vastly more effective, leading to an upper hand over the covenant. See: Masterchief

The data pads tell you this

No.

No they don't. They don't say anything remotely resembling your imbecilic fan fiction. We've been over this in another topic. The Assembly has nothing to do with Halsey in this manner.

The datapads certainly do not say that Halsey used Forerunner tech to allow an A.I. to map onto a human brain. Which Cortana was doing anyway from when she first linked up with John.

Go to bed already.
