I just wanted to ask people who have read it and if it is any good.

I have read:

The Fall of Reach
The Flood
First Strike
Ghost of Onyx

I have Cole Protocol and Contact Harvest but haven't got around to reading them.

So I'm a big Halo fan and want to know if Cryptum was as good, if not better than the other Halo novels. I have read up on Halo Wiki about it a little.

Yes.

If you enjoy Halo lore, Cryptum is a must read.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

I don't have Cryptum, but I've read portions of it and I can tell you it beats Ghosts of Onyx by a mile... with a wrench... a flaming wrench held by holographic ninja cats made of cheese, and the cheese-based ninja cats are on fire too.

Does a bear poop in the woods? :P
(The answer is yes!)

you should definitely buy it but read the other 2 first or you risk losing the interest to read them later

Cryptum is the most eye opening book for the Halo Universe.

whoa, easy there soldier. i dont think the two books should really be compared. they both have their own, very different paces, and are in two different sub-genres. GoO is more of a sci-fi action, while Cryptum is more sci-fi drama/suspense. Cryptum is a bit slower, but it is just as easy to read.

GoO is fantastic, and Cryptum is great as well. I just wouldn't really try and pick a 'winner' between the two. Its near impossible.

Here's my advice to you son, its a life lesson you shan't forget.

Some people are like Slinkies. They aren't good for anything in particular, but it still makes you smile when you push them down the stairs

The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

I want to get Cryptum really bad.

I missed my chance of getting it by a day.

I would say it depends on what you like. If you like futuristic military stuff you definitely should read The Fall of Reach and if you like it then just keep going. I personally really liked FoR, First Strike, Ghost of Onyx and Cryptum. If you are a Halo fan then you should definitely read all of the books.

I didn't appreciate The Cole Protocol or Contact Harverst as much until the second time I read them.

story was good. ending was extremely anti-climatic if you ask me. still decent though

I have a question in relation with this.

The book is a mere 300-something pages, and from what I've read here, it's not long before there's important new things we learn and all, and it seems like the book is incredibly full of important lore elements. I'm wondering, as a novel, as a science fiction novel, how does it fare? I don't know, I get the impression that it's kinda like almost something that could be featured in the Halopedia (not that I read it).

Make sure you read Halo: The Cole Protocol. One of my favorite out of all the Halo books.

  • 01.28.2011 2:22 PM PDT

Personally it's one of the best books I've read in a long while. Best Halo novel in my opinion. You might be disappointed though if you're looking for an action packed novel. It's closer to a space opera (which I happen to love).
