When I go on halopedia, it said that a pelican is about 100 feet long. How does this make any sense? Thats the size of a football field. It's not they're mistake. I know

Halopedia isnt Bungie. There are many mistakes on that page. Just use it for references and overviews, but I wouldint take anything on there for granted, it's bound to be mistaken.

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

You are clearly not a sports person.

Anyway, bigger is better.

100ft is 1/3 a football field.
100yd is a football field.

A football/soccer pitch is between 90m and 130m long. A Pelican is 30.5m.

Granted I think that is still quite long, but it is nowhere near the size of a football field.

I don't care. I really don't.

The pelican is that big; it's because it's not just a dropship, but also space-vessel.
It has to carry heavy vehicles, have life support, an airlock, a troop bay, a mini-fusion reactor if I'm not mistaken, and has to support itself in atmosphere (with VTOL and hovering capabilities) while also able of atmospheric reentry and reach escape velocity all without external assitance; it's like a space shuttle, the rocket surface-to-orbit constructions, a cargo plane and a transoprt helicopter all rolled into one.
It's actually tiny for what it can do. As to what else you refer to oversized, they all make sense when you actually look at what they can do in the canon.

Eh? Americans are the ones who actually use yards, so I'm not sure what you're implying there.

100ft is only 1/3rd a football field, and it's usually harder than you'd expect for people to get a sense of just how big the pelicans are.

This HBO page shows everything. The images halfway down of the Pelicans carrying stuff should be a real eye-opener for scale.

[Announcement Trailer] Halo: Forerunner

I lol'd at the absurd miscommunication that occurs whenever dibbs post something. Perhaps his brain is so highly evolved that he can no longer clearly communicate with lesser life forms, even among his own species.

Oh, I thought we were talking about something else. In reference to that hypothetical question, yes, Johnson is quite "oversized" (he knows what the ladies like).

I am the Reclaimer of the lost, the Forerunner of death, and the Precursor of all that is meant to be

no meanness intended but a football field is 100 yards long not 100 feet long. 100 feet long is roughly the size of a large trailer or small house. the only common unsc vehicle 100 yards long would be the civilian evac ships please get your facts straight next time

That is either a tiny football field, or a massive Pelican.

  • 01.20.2011 10:02 PM PDT

The Pelican is only two feet longer than a Chinook.

  • 01.20.2011 10:34 PM PDT

Still, the thing is seriously huge. Its troop bay is big enough to house an Abrams MBT.

My jokes, so I don't lose them (ignore this):
ZedFish's Opinion on Sgt. Foley.
ZedFish's Forerunner Rickroll.

Isn't a football field 100 yards long??
That's like, 300 feet.

So, a football field is 3 times a Pelican.

Bringing the 2006 back to Bungie.net since...well, 2006.

Forget about pelicans.
What about different Covenant species?
Elites average 8'6"...and Hunters average 12' standing straight.
That is crazy tall!

I was gonna make a similar reference to this, basically the Pelican can be compared with things we see in real life. Also you need to think of a Football field and how long it takes to walk from one end to the other.

Does it take that long in a Pelican?

  • 01.21.2011 12:41 AM PDT

i can only count to jagermeister.

Big-ass grenades need big-ass ships to be stored in. Thus- Pelican.

  • 01.21.2011 7:13 AM PDT

who cares about this pelican thoo?....it just carries crap, drops crap, and flies crap...we should bbe more concerned about the fact the my bungie profile needs updateing becuase my armor on this is old...and my armor in the game is different......does this update weekly or wat?
