I thought this would be a cool idea for a future game with a team of members (Such as Halo: REACH).
I'll use Reach to explain my idea.
Ok, so you start off in Campaign. Instead of normally beginning as Noble 6, you can CHOOSE which Noble team member you want to play as. Now, no matter what character you choose, the storyline will still be basically the same. Just at a different point of view (Think about how ODST was. Except the character selection of course)
Now here's the catch.
For each character you choose, there will be a different objective (As each team member basically has a different kind of job).
Now, you can go through campaign and survive as any Noble team member.
OR - you may get killed during campaign (Enemy grenade, suicide, ect).
Now things will get interesting. Whichever character you were playing when you got killed will actually be dead as far as the story line is concerned. Instead of respawning, a cutscene plays because of your death, then you pick up as another team member of your choice.
Then you can go on to finish campaign as the different team member, or again, you may get killed. A cutscene plays because of the character's death, and you continue on as another character.
There will also be events in campaign in which another team mate will be killed, UNLESS you rescue them (There will be chances to rescue them each time). If you fail to rescue another team member, that member is gone and cannot be chosen to play if you die. The campaign changes as a result.
Each time you die as a team member, the campaign changes as a result. Basically, the deaths - or survival, of noble team is in your hands. You choose how the game ends. A team member doesn't die unless you die playing that team member, or unless you fail to rescue another team member.
If every team member dies before you reach the end (Whether you were playing them or not), then an ending cutscene will play and the game will end. You'll have to restart and try again.
Pretty much, depending on the skill of the player, the entire team can survive through the fall of reach, or they can die through it. There would be a different cutscene for which ever it is.
There will be a different cutscene if one or more character gets killed, or if all of them get killed.
I was just thinking this would be kinda neat for a game.
thoughts?
