What are good video cards? My graphics run off the motherboard and all Spartans are white. I'm just asking what the best are. (All I want is at least a 64-128 MB). I have 256 MB of ram so all I need is a video card

You NEED to get an ATI Radeon X1800XT in Crossfire!

But serioulsy, get at least a 128mb Video Card, because you really have no idea what you're talking about if you think you want a 64mb video card.

But you need to tell us your motherboard specs.

I bought an ATI Radeon 9600 256 mb. for my Dell 4600. It cost me about 115.00 out the door and made a hell of a difference.

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

First, what PC model and brand do you have?
Second, what type of slot do you have? PCI or AGP? You can tell this by if there is a seperate slot offset from the other card slots.(that means you have an AGP slot)

Look at this picture.
If you have a slot offset like the one on that motherbaord that is circled in red, then you have an AGP motherboard. If they are all the same then you only have PCI slot.

yanksfan, go to the start menu in windows ->run-> type in "dxdiag" and hit enter.
Then post everything above the "sound devices" section.

@Lt. Heart: yes, you have to open the case. Slide it open and look at the motherboard where the slots are. Look to see if it looks like that picture, or if all of the slots look the same.

you mean before it says sound one and sound 2? so that would be system, direct x files, and display?
if that is then under the display it says:
Name: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL express chip set family
Manufacturer: Intel Corperation ( i think this is my problem halo doesnt support intel)
Chip type: Intel(R) 82915G/GV/910GL express chip set
DAC type: Internal
Approx. Total Memory: 128.0 MB
Current Display Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (75Hz)
Monitor: Plug and Play Monitor
and i have direct x 9.0c

if more is needed tell me
p.s. I would look it up on dell.com cause i have a dell but they took my computer off the website. On one website it says that i have a ATI RADEON X300 SE but i am not sure if that is right

You have an Intel integrated graphics chip that isn't supported by Halo.
If you tell me the model of the PC then I can look up what slots is has and reccomend a video card for you.

But in single player if i but everything on high it like lags but i dont play single player anyways. I have a dell dimension 4700. But i dont need a reccomended video card cause im getting a better pc for games only i think alienware or the dell xps
but is my graphics chip a 128mb or 64mb?

@yanks fan: I would reccomend the Xps. With the alienware you pay more for the name than the parts. Just customize the dell Xps to your likings. Also, according to the dxdiag you have a 128MB chip/card.

@Lt. Heart: Try reading this link on how to remove a case.
Basically just remove all the screws that are around the outside edge of the case in the back, then lift the case up and move it front or back until it unsecures, and then slide it off the back.
Repeat the process in reverse to put it back on. Just don't lose any of the screws.

i get this message when i open halo
we are sorry but your computer is below the recommended minimum spec for this game. if you wish to update your computer contact your computer manufacterer.

machine info: 2800MHz, 512MB, 64M Intel Unknown (0x2582)

ignore the top part, thats cause my card is unsupported but at the bottom what does the 64M mean?

64MB Integrated Graphics...basically crud.

If you want a good AGP card the 6800GT is pretty sweet, and it's priced fairly affordably compared to other cards. The next step down is a 6600GT.

I'm not aware of the 7 series on AGP...

I havre the answer to ypour problem, all you have to do is download and install the drivers in my sig, Where it says "i can see the colors" Thats gonna fix the color part, plus gives you a more stable performance.

Okay, people, if your textures are white or your graphics suck, then you're going to need to get a new graphics card. There's no way around it, and it's going to get far worse with today's games. Recall that Halo is five years old.

The problem is, many of you who have integrated graphics which produce the cruddy graphics have nothing except a PCI slot to add in a graphics card...and that only affords you a 5700 series card at the most, which isn't very good at all.

I can only say that the most surefire thing is to get a new pc. Not from Hell, not from Crapway, but from your own hands. Yeah, I know it seems daunting for you to build a pc, but visit The Guides sticky here, visit guru3d.com, tomshardware.com, and invest some time into understanding the pc. Catch up on which components are "in" now, and see what performance they can give you. I can tell you that if you settle for a brand pc, you'll experience this again.

I'll tell you that an AMD Athlon 64 3200 or 3500 Venice, Chaintech VNF4 Motherboard, 1GB of Corsair value RAM, a Maxtor Diamondmax 10 [16MB buffer] hard drive, and a 6800 ultra, will cost you under $1000, even after buying a case, power supply, and the like, and it will last you a long time.
