I am a monument to all your sins

remember how in Halo: The Flood, Master cheif instinctivle knew how to work Forerunner machines? could it be that this was the result of a geas left over from when the librarian indexed the early humans?
for those of you who didnt read Halo: Cryptum, a geas is a mental command implanted in someones genetic code that allows them to be born with knowledge of something, or a compulsion to do something given the correct conditions.
It seems that the other humans have this same ability, as they often work Forerunner equipment too, such as in Halo 2 when Johnson and Miranda activate the gondala leading to the library, and in Halo Wars with the map. Im thinking that the humans in Halo have a geas that has stayed with them since being indexed by the librarian that allows them to work Forerunner machines with no prior training or understanding of the tech

It is not just the MC but the whole human race. But I theorize that MC and Spartans like him have a greater susceptibility to unlocking their geas due to the circumstances surrounding their development, from a very early age, as humanity's greatest fighters, with all their form mutations (similar to the way Forerunners mutated their bodies) and their extensive wearing of armor (like the Forerunners did on a day-to-day basis).

Good theory, I never thought of this.

mabey, the augmentation could play a part but I dont think anything as trivial as wearing a suit could activate a geas, but who knows?

I think that all of these are right.

But I also think that Spartans are more susceptible to it because they are trained to be more instinctual than other humans. They are highly intelligent and taught a number of complex subject,s yes, but they are also trained to see a situation and react just given their reflexes, where a normal human would have to think about it.

Plus, every other human who has come into contact with it so far has had some kind of military training, and really all military training teaches you to act like that. It's just the Spartans were so very highly trained that it's a bit above and beyond.

Daodan Latency at 65%

I don't believe he had a bird at any point during the halo storyline.

Perhaps he had a geas, but it might also be found in other aspects.

For instance: humans are curious by nature. The activation of Forerunner technology in Wars can be largely attributed to humans just being curious and doing what they think the must do.

Then there is also the point of Humans studying Forerunner tech for quite a while already (20+ years at the time of Halo). So a lot of information is already there in fragmented puzzles, including how to work with Forerunner tech (without knowing what to do with it..)

Cortana for instance is basically build upon Forerunner technology, and is almost like the most complete and accurate library of Forerunner information the UNSC has....which she could have shared with many people including Chief.

Last but not least: I do believe the Forerunners gave the Humans some form of a geas, just not as influential as the one the Librarian gave to Bornstellar, Chakas and Riser...
"We" created the Flood (kind of) so it would make sense the Librarian gave some sort of basic knowledge to Humans to operate the tools the Forerunners gave us to end the Flood as well...

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Its kinda cool, the recurring themes between modern day and 'The Times of our Fore Runners'

Im guessing it could be, but it could just be because forerunners and humans are...

(Possible Spoiler Alert)

Essentially the same species, just humanity less evolved

All the little things that resemble UNSC culture - Social class of warriors, Genetic implementation, The librarian clearly being a forerunner version of Halsey...

Even the small fact of how an anceilla connects directly into the mind, like how master chiefs been augmented

i havnt finished the book yet, but the forerunner fortress around the san-shaymun home system - Does that become high charity?
