I'd like to play, if this happens. Get xfire, it is easier to organize if you have it.

Chewy's right; xfire is VERY useful as it lets you jump right in a game with anybody on your friends list that you like. You can also use in-game chat, screenshots, and a couple other features.

Download it here!

EDIT: Oh and sweet the Bungie dude just started flaming! That's a good sign for this thread : )

yes, very good everyone we're making serious progress here. I too have X-fire (see my signature) and now that this thread's "on fire" it will be sure to garner some attention. If a few Halo PC community members and people from Bungie are willing to download x-fire, that would be an even easier way to organise this match, Bungie could IM us with x-fire and they could tell select people the password and we can just use the "quick join" function to enter a game. However this whole "private game" thing might get kind of dicey.

I don't want anyone left out and I know A LOT of people over at the new halomaps.co.uk forum who've been dedicated Halo PC community members for about a year now, who truly deserve to play in a game like this. Perhaps they can simply title the game so no one pays much attention to it (sort of like making the name something random like "Hey Joe come over here") And then we can tell the dedicated Halo PC community (not just the random people who play the game) that that is the name of the game with the folks from Bungie, and after that we can set up a good time & date which Bungie will determine.

Just some thoughts of mine.

No problem for the link, p1i2z3z4a5, xfire works pretty well doesn't it? I have mine in my sig too, by the way.

To jman--your ideas are great, but whenever you are playing with people over the internet that you really don't know at all, it can be VERY hard to keep passwords from leaking out, and might be more trouble than it's worth (as you acknowledged).

However, if we work with Bungie to make it so that security is only a certain level of strictness (wherein one or two people in a game who weren't really invited are playing anyway), we can make it so it isn't too strenuous starting up the game, while at the same time 90% of players on PC are totally unaware of the server. Therefore, in my opinion, your two suggestions (about using xfire and naming the server something random and inconspicuous) are very good ideas!

John

P.S. Thanks so much to p1i2z3z4a5 for starting up possibly THE most interesting thread I've seen in The Maw, and thanks also to everyone else who has helped out! We can do this ; )

anyways, for the sake of discussion, what kind of gametypes would you want to see?

I'm going to start very general here: and then I'll we'll go into detail later

1.) Crazy gametype: any sort of crazy game, maybe chironLT34 with plasma pistols and starting plasma nades, that would be INSANE, or you know like anything noshields, with rockets...Basically anything hectic, crazy, and stupid, yet still fun. Even on a CTF game it would be crazy to include a few tanks ;)

2.) Pro: Perhaps snipers (with shields, no shields is too easy), or like CTF Pro or Slayer Pro. Becuase honestly Ithink normal slayer sucks, if you don't get a pistol and if you spawn in the middle of nowhere with a plasma pistol, you're in short: screwed, so (team) Slayer Pro you would start with the AR, pistol and 2 frags, sounds like fun ;)

3.) Big madness: really any crazy large game. Perhaps team rockets on blood gulch, or even rocket CTF, anything on a big map with lots of firepower, possibly with vehicles including the banshee and the tank

4.) Specialty: any of the other smaller gamertypes, I wouldn't mind Race for a change, I really love that, but only in a smaller map, like no death Island, that should be a MUST, but perhaps like rat race, or Blood gulch (?) Also a King of the Hill game would be a very fun idea, same with an oddball, and perhaps even Juggernaut (which I NEVER play).

So throw your idea out there, maybe we should start getting more specific with gametype configurations. Even though Bungie might choose the gametypes and maps (or maybe they choose the gametype, and we choose the map) let's get some good ideas and then Bungie can think about what to choose.

I've already made a few gametype suggestions, I'll add three commonly found ones:

1. Rocket game on Beaver Creek. I've seen a lot of these, and normally I really dispise rocket games, but for some reason I just like this one.
2. Covenant weapons on Hang 'Em High CTF. Ever done this before? It's not too rare actually, and it gives you a chance to put to good use some weapons you usually use a lot less than the human ones, which makes for developing a new strategy in your gameplay.
3. Assuming that we get a good server, we might try doing CTF, Death Island, with all the vehicles it can hold and 300% shields. It makes it so that the player on foot doesn't really have much of a chance, but the vehicles are always plentiful and the scorpion shells are not all-mighty with the extra shields.

Keep in mind these are just suggestions which probably won't even make it to the server. Not trying to force my opinions on people.

Oh, and to Mr B, I think some of the people who have come into this thread should probably practice so that they are better at coordinating their movements. My schedule, however, fluctuates greatly and I probably wouldn't be able to be a part of it : ( . Still, for everyone else, it would be a good idea to set something up.

okay it's now 5:52 EST and no answer yet from Frankie. Though since it is Pacific time I think he's left work only a little while ago so I'll check back again later tonight, probably around 10:30. Okay yea I'm really loving these gametypes, we should defenitely play at least one rocket game, ok now on the matter of the game, who should we tell about this? Should we mention this game outside this thread?, or is it okay for me to tell my friend (just him, he's the only one I know who plays Halo PC) Because the only problem is, if word gets out (he might tell his friend who also plays) and then sooner or later we'll have like 100 people who'll want to play in this game, right now I'd say about only 10-15 people know about this, maybe 10 at the most. So any thoughts on this?

Also, I'm on X-fire right now, so I'll PM a few of you and see if you want to set up a scrimmage to practice.

On a closing note, I'd just like to say that although we are all getting really pysked (sp.?) up for this game, we still do not have confirmation from Frankie or anyone that this will happen. Though I really do think he will consider this idea, it's still not for sure, not even close.
So really if this game doesn't happen I don't want anyone getting really dissapointed, you hear?

-jman571: might be playing Bungie soon ;)

Yes jman, I think Chewy's right, just wait and see how many people are on the server before we go getting more people to play.

Oh, and to repeat you, nothing, nothing, nothing is guaranteed. No one be disappointed if they say no.

On a lighter note, even if they do disagree, we've still started up opportunities for us "Maw-forum-goers" to get to know each other better through xfire and training up for the possible Bungie games. *grins sheepishly* Of course, if you actually did get to play with people last night, I wasn't there; sorry. But as I said it's hard for me to find a time during which I can depend on to be able to play.

I have a sort of cool idea--you guys want to start a semi-clan that's not really strict or anything about training, but is just the people who would like to play Bungie if they agreed to this idea? I think it'd be kinda cool personally : )

Yeah well let's keep the criticisms to a bare minimum, we want them to consider us ya know. Oh and just out of curiosity, to the Spartan why are you 012? If you're so good I would've thought you'd pick 117 just because that is the actual Master Chief. Not that I don't believe in your skills; I'm only average.
