I got into Halo pretty late, and forums even later, so i'm not really familiar with this.

What is a "deranker", why do so many people hate them, and what is the point of boosting in ranked playlists?

BANOOSH

A deranker - as the name implies - is a player who deliberately lowers their rank in order to be able to play less experienced players (noobs) and raise their KDR and other stats. It's usually done by playing up your stats to a point where a few bad games won't ruin them, then joining a number of games AFK, (obviously with a rubber band or something like that.) The plethora of deaths from these games'll lower your TrueSkill rating to the point where you'll be matched with the worst of the worst, and your stats will be augmented. Don't do any of what I just said. It's really annoying to almost everyone and makes you look like an absolute -blam!-.

Don't listen to this guy.

A deranker is a person who deliberately loses games, thousands of them, in a playlist like Team Slayer, or MLG, or Doubles. Once they've done that, they have an extremely low true-skill.

They then play with new accounts, which rank up very quickly because of the true-skill formula in Halo 3. It's possible to get a 50 in 16 games with these deranked accounts.

They don't care about their stats, K/D's or anything like that, just losing games. Why people still do it now that H3 is dead is beyond me.
