Well, it was time to rebuild my machine, so I decide to put XP SP2 on while I'm at it.

Sad thing is, now I can't see any multiplayer chat messages...or better yet, NO WHITE TEXT MESSAGES AT ALL.

So be careful if you decide to install SP2.

Any ideas on what to do to fix it? It's not the new firewall. The only thing different is SP2.

It doesn't matter if I'm playing on a different server or my own.

ATI 9800
AMD 2800XP
SB Audigy 2
Gigabyte MoBo w/ nforce2 chipset
1 GB RAM

SP2 is great for windows but sucks for games.

I've about decided to live with the problem. I look at it like this....since I only play on my server now, it's my handycap to give others a fair chance.

To fix the text problem, go into your Halo folder, and run and install msxmlenu.msi.

Heh, guess what, that didn't work.

Looks like something's new for SP2.

Any other ideas? I've searched MS, Bungie, and Gearbox high and low for an answer now.

You could use system restore to get rid of SP2 and revert to your old settings, you could try reinstalling halo, directX, or video drivers. Don't know what else to do...

Problem SOLVED!!!!

Had to downgrade to ATI Catalyst 4.7 drivers.

If anyone reads has this same problem....

First, download and install Driver Cleaner.

1. Use Add/Remove programs to uninstall ATI drivers.

2. Reboot into Safe Mode

3. Cancel the Hardware Wizard when you log in.

4. Go to Device Manager and Uninstall VGA Device/Video Card

5. Run Driver Cleaner.

6. Reboot and install ATI Catalyst Drivers 4.7

Thanks for all your suggestions.
