Ever wanted to know exactly where the CPU you were looking at buying fit into the performance spectrum? Want to see how your current one stacks up to the others?
Here it is, folks!
You'll have to zoom in on most resolutions. It's a performance graph of most modern CPU's used in desktops. The scores were reached by averaging the frames per second each CPU attained in Doom 3, Far Cry, and Half-Life 2/Counter-Strike [and then they were divided by 10, but that was only to help me sort them]. I grabbed the data on FPS from Tom's Hardware Guide, but the compositing of data and the graph are my work.
This does NOT take into account media work such as encoding, nor does it take into account synthetic benchmarks, which are honestly sort of silly since they don't show real-world performance in what matters to many: gaming.
