c'mon, no one has an opinion on the book? I'm scared to read any of the other threads about the book for fear of unintentional SPOILZ

  • 01.25.2011 3:10 PM PDT

Who really cares what I say, right?

I loved it. It got a bit tedious, but improved toward the end.

  • 01.25.2011 3:21 PM PDT

im about 1/3 through and so far it is great, not terribly action-y yet but very well written.

  • 01.25.2011 3:27 PM PDT

good feedback so far, thanks. Does it make any connections to the games/previous novels? I don't see how it could because it is based really far back in the past right?

Not any direct links but there's a few things you'll recognise (Like Monitors or Sentinels).

seventh coloumn pride

wait what is halo cryptum?
is it a book because i don't see it on bungie store?

  • 01.25.2011 5:47 PM PDT

i finished it within 2 days so it's pretty short. Though, it is a wonderful book filled with lovely information. Greg bear truly described in depth alot of the forerunner ways and things...

Also the story that we follow is remarkable , It is now my personal favourite out of all halo books actually. :D

Hope you enjoy reading.

I really enjoyed the non-military approach (a very fresh approach IMO). I can't wait for book 2 to come out already :-)

This, and well, I didn't like it much. The only thing good I think I got out of it was some information. The story is interesting and from a new perpective, but I think Greg describes things a bit too much,to a point where the story isn't somuh being told, or being told very slowly.

It all makes sense in the end. It is good.

I do not appreciate B.Net Group solicitation. If you ignore this and send me an invitation anyway, I will block communications with you.

Seems that this trilogy is going to be the most defining out of all of the novels. I hope this trend continues with the franchise's novel outlet. Getting the story of the current timeline in the games and the symmetry of the ancient timeline in the novels would be a great symbiosis if it were consistent enough.

Here we go.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I plan to order a copy this Thursday, I've been so poor lately I can't even afford books.

Cryptum is one of the better books in the series.

Not heavy on action, although there is one HUGE spacefight going on at the end of the books.
Its interesting because it gives insight in Forerunners, Precursors, Humans, Flood and more.
It drops plottwists you never imagined, and its well written.

Only thing I found to bother me, was how the (mostly supporting) characters don't seem to stick with me.

Also: first half is setting things up and might get a bit tedious sometimes, second half picks up the pace and makes you don't want to stop reading.

I rate it up on the same level as GoO, but below Fall of Reach and First Strike.

I'm sorry, at the end of Cryptum or the series?

  • 01.26.2011 2:18 AM PDT

I've realised that I've been expelled from my mother's uterus as if being shot from a canon, towards a barn door covered in rusty hooks and old nail files. It's a matter of how you use the intervening time in an intelligent and ironic way, and try not to do anything dastardly to your fellow creatures.

Finished it in about 6 hours, probably one of the best in the series.

Im getting this book today, Cant wait to read it

I thought it was the best thing 343 have done yet. It really opens up the forerunner/human relationship in a way I never saw coming.
Some people see it as ruining the mystery behind the forerunners, but I disagree. It exposes them for what they really are, and adds a whole new layer to Halo's story

  • 01.26.2011 4:36 AM PDT

I like where this book goes and where the story is going. It also feels the most scifi out of all the halo books I've read. It had an old school feel (think Foundation series, if you've read them, or are that old) to it.

Lol, how an accidental extra "s" can cause confusion. Sorry about that: its at the end of Cryptum ;)

Also: thinking about Cryptum and just watching the Babysitter (from Legends) makes me think 343 has now also a good excuse for the Japanese styled "Forerunner" buildings:
they might just as well not even be Forerunner!

Frankie had already said "Who said they were Forerunner",he already confirmed that those buildings are not Forerunner

Now we know they are built by ancient humans
