I have to say, whenever I see a hot topic, I avoid it like the plague. Why? Usually if a post stays around for that long, it gets off topic (not always, just usually). Also, unless I get involved in the post before it becomes a hot topic, I'm just not interested in reading 50 different posts to catch up on things. Third: if people are anything like me, they don't want to either, so they view the first 10 posts and respond. That makes the thread go nowhere (akin to treading water).

What do you guys think? I am I just utterly wrong?

I always ignore the it. If the topic title is interesting enough, i'll read it and usually put my 2 cents in it. Wether it's hot topic or not, i don't really care.

"If Halo 3 WERE made, would you want to play as the Arbiter again?" has over 200 pages but I'm never going to dare to venture in there.....the mortality rate is way too high.

Everything will be gone long before me. When the first living thing was born, I was here, waiting. When the last living thing dies, my job is finished. I'll put the chairs on the tables, turn out the lights and lock the universe behind me when I leave.

I sometimes don't unless it's a Fanfic.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

It doesn't affect me at all. Maybe some poeple don't want to read through a lot of posts, but I'm fine with it. I remember reading through 32 pages of the "Seventh Column Council" sticky in one sitting. It didn't take me all that long.

You didn't put an option for neutral.

The only icons I really notice are the locked and stickeyed ones. I've no problem with reading through hundreds of post. Gives me something to do.

If you want to be a part of one of the greatest and most active communities in the seventh column, come here. You will thank me later.

I guess that this must be the reason that popular threads die out so quickly.

Even before we had this feature, I very rarely looked at posts over 3 pages long untill I had checked all of the newer ones. The longer the topic, the more likely it was going no where and everything that was going to be said had been said.

So yes, if I see the "Hot Topic" hovering over a thread, I'll read it, but I'll save it for last.

I wanted to see the universe, so I stole a Time Lord and I ran away.

I try to avoid topics over 3-5 pages long only because I don’t want to post in the topic regarding the original post only to find my self in the middle of a derailment with spam.

Eh, it depends on the topic, if it's something interesting, and it's not incredibly off-topic, then i might join in.

Seventh Column Contests

It doesn't matter to me, if the title looks "hawt" to me, I read it otherwise i just skip.

shhhhhhh

Hawt Topic says to me what Micheal Jackson says to kids.

When this topic becomes a Hawt Topic, I may post in it, since I have a post on the first page, if I don't make it in time, I most likely will never post in it.

I like to stay away from them too.
For me, posting about the same thing 8 different times in 7 different posts just doesnt appeal.

lol. I'm amazed that 3 people like it out of 17...wow I'm really really suprised. I mean, it looks cool, but you're right, the mortality rate IS too high (so to speak). It's very difficult to get interested in a long thread.
