I just finished reading Cryptum last night...and I must say...OH MY GOD!!!!! This book was mind blowing, it took everything we knew and turned it over on its head O_O

I found the origins of the Flood very interesting, and the whole Humans being a galactic super-power at one point in the past, and the whole alliance with the Prophets.

I'm wondering what exactly the Prisoner is/was, I am absolutely convinced though that it will somehow either become the Gravemind or is related to it somehow, they are so similar. And it would not surprise me if Mendicant's Halo turned out to be Delta Halo, as there are only six that made it to the Ark, and it seemed like the "Lost" Halo was not really entering the fight at the Forerunner Capitol Installation.

This book has left a lot to ponder and a lot of questions to be answered, one thing is certain, the Halo universe will never be the same again.

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Good thing its a trilogy :P

Im not finished yet, im trying to pace it because it IS technically a valentines day present, but its just soo... Friggen.. GOOD!

Its basically turned the understanding of the forerunners and the flood around

and i just mentioned this on another thread, do you think the precursors biology held some sort of flood vacine? This could explain how humanity defeated them...

I know, really. I borrowed it from a friend, and it took me a while to get going, but I knocked it out in one day, it was a really quick read.

I'm not quite sure what you're saying here :/ care to elaborate a bit, or link me the thread you posted the idea in?

Well, as i said i havnt finished yet but i still need to discuss it

the prisoner is supposedly, the last surviving precursor, and charum haktor was populated entirely by humanity and san shyuum..ity

But of course before they were wiped out humanity found a flood cure, ones that even the forerunner couldnt find, and i cant help but wonder if its something in lets say... the precurors blood... that fends off the flood, since it was the precursors who kept the flood at bay before

Discussion here

Ok, I understand what you're saying now.

I don't know, it could have been something in the Prisoner's genetics, but I doubt it, as he/she/it was sealed away, and seeing as the Humans locked it up further, I don't think they could of, or would have wanted to, gotten close enough to it to extract a genetic sample.

It is highly likely however that the Prisoner told them something that helped them develop the counter-measure, I don't think it was an actual cure.

That makes sense, the genetics idea was mainly a focus from the idea of the flood being a calcium based lifeform

However i cant help feel theres more to it, im almost positive now the legendary planet is charum haktor and i want to see if theres any rational connection to what could cause the next MC game to be set there

But none the less, as i said first "At least its a trilogy" so we know theres more forerunner storys to be told

Maybe not even forerunner, maybe the next will be a human on charum haktor...

The way that cryptum is constructed, i woundnt count out greg bear going backwards through time, the next being the human-forerunner war, and the final the human-precursor

I can't wait for the next book, do we know when it's coming out?

Do you think Erde-Tyrene is supposed to be Earth? It could easily be, but I'm not quite sure. Edom certainly sounds similar to Mars at least.

By the power of truth, I, while living, have conquered the universe.

Erde-Tyrene is indeed Earth, it's what pre-historic humans and Forerunners named it.

Are you just deducing that from the book, or is there some outside-the-book info I haven't seen that said that? I'm not doubting you, it makes sense, I just want to explore your reasoning.

It is definitely Earth. For one, the star it orbits is named "Sol", which is the Latin word for sun. Also, Erde is German for Earth. Finally, the fourth planet orbiting Sol is called Edom, which is Hebrew for "red", and our fourth planet is red. There's really not much doubt.

I may be way off base here, isn't there actual star called Sol, I'm not debating I'm just wondering, 'cause I seem to remember there being one :/

Yeah, I knew Sol was Latin for sun, and that Edom meant "red", didn't know Erde meant Earth though. Was Edom the fourth planet? I don't remember.

Ah yeah, I just read the beginning again, the system has eight planets, Edom is the fourth, golden star...yeah, it has to be Earth.

Nope. If you see sci-fi refer to a star called "Sol", it's usually our sun. It would be silly to call another star Sol when the word for Sun in many languages is Sol.

Well I could have sworn I had heard of a real star called Sol :/

I wonder why Human's left Earth in Cryptum, or if that was just where the Librarian decided to re-seed humanity.
