Subject: *slight spoilers* The prisoner.

Some things are obvious to me, other people just have a misguided desire for 'proof' when we're talking about a story that isn't even finished yet. There's more novels to come - even if you sneaked into Greg Bear's house and stole his notes, you wouldn't be able to 'prove' what you knew was coming based solely on the literal facts confirmed in Cryptum.

Well it's obvious he's dead cause how could life survive inside an impenetrable cage for tens of thousands of centuries. Food. Energy. Decay. Etc.

The Flood survived on the Halo rings without food or anything like that for 100,000 years. The Prisoner, in my opinion, is the Gravemind. But even if it's the last precursor, the cage could sustain it, or they may not even need to eat that much. These are basically living Gods. You don't know squat about them except they were EXTREMELY powerful and then they disappeared, and potentially left the Flood behind as a nice little going away present.

You are extracting too much information out of just a few chapters. None of that is stated. But it is your opinion, and it could be plausible but we don't really know. I wouldn't bet on it myself.

Q: If the Captive was sucked down into the inner core of a planet, would he die from the heat, or would the Capsule insulate him?

That is a complicated question SoApS pistol. If you happen to be talking about a regular planet, I would say he would survive the inner core because Precursor artifacts are indestructible WHICH IS A FACT FACT not an idea surmised through innaccurate use off Occam's Razor fact. But if you happen to be speaking of a planet like Onyx, which is a Shield World (FACT), he could easily survive the inner core, assuming you consider the slipspace vortex to be the "center."

Note: where I put FACT is where there are direct references to such things
