How were the Flood created? Was it like the aid's virus, and started to spread? I've had a theory of their creation for a while now. We know that Forerunners had Teir0 technology, and were basically able to speed up Evolution. So maybe they where experimenting with some cells, and then something went wrong and the Flood was formed. Then they tried to contain this "virus" on a planet but it some how got of the planet. (Any one want to comment?)

Caboose -1

It looks like a Puma?!?

Most likely just appeared out of nowhere.

Read Cryptum.

The new theory (one very much backed up) is they are the Precursor's revenge upon the Forerunners.

Let's be honest, it could be a lot worse.

Didn't it say somewhere in one of the cut scenes of Halo 1 2 or 3 that the forerunners created them?

The Forerunners were Tier 1
The Precursors were Tier 0

They might have just evolved normally like us, just taking a different, more parasitic route of evolution.

I swear they where Tier 0, I'll have to read Cryptum to understand more about the flood.

<(-_-)> Teh mokey is not amused

The flood was first encountered by the forerunners when a meteor crashed on a planet on the edge of the galaxy, the flood then hijacked a forerunner transport in order to infiltrate one of their worlds. So the forerunners did not create the flood.

it was not a Forerunner transport they hijacked.
in cryptum they first appear as a fine white power.

the new books overthrow the old cannon.

please read them before stating such bollocks

They're technological achievement tiers, it's just a way of showing who was more advanced and who wasn't. Tier 0 is the highest, being capable of creating life and accelerating evolution; Tier 7 is the lowest.

The Precursors were Tier 0, the Forerunners were Tier 1.

The Flood were created by the Precursors as a weapon against the Forerunners, created for revenge for destroying them. The Prisoner says to the Didact:

"We meet again, young one. I am the last of those who gave you breath and shape and form, millions of years ago. I am the last of those your kind rose up against and ruthlessly destroyed. I am the last Precursor. And our answer is at hand."

That quote reveals that the Precursors created the Forerunners and their "answer" is the Flood, as we know the Forerunners are thrown into a war with them not long after.

On a related note, ******'s mom has really nice boobs, and it doesn't take much booze or encouragement to get her to let the puppies out of the pen...if you know what I mean...

Forunners were tier 1. Precursors were tier 0.

the humans were the first to encounter the flood as a white power on a planet from a forien rock matrial from outside our galixy t first attacked human pets and mutated several times before affecting humans and forerunner species, the humans found a way to defeat it and pushed it out of the galaxy. the forerunners then defeated the humans and knocked their technology back to primative age and all the knowledge was lost of how to defeat them except a few who are yet unknown to still know. this is all taken from halo cryptum by greg bear. the newest book go get it and read it. the prisioner in this story assumed to be the last precursor aka the gravemind was supposed to have found a way to control the flood but wheather they are the same or used by the precursor is yet unknown.

Thanks for killing that theory. They really need to make more novels about the flood.

How do the books overthrow the old cannon?

If you're talking about Origins Part 1 then that doesn't break the cannon.

Remember, the Forerunners worlds were continuously being attacked by the Flood at the time of Cryptum and some time before.

Now as for the Precursors creating the Flood that seems logical given "The Captive"'s last words of the book being "And this is our answer" or something along those lines. Why the Precursors could create the Flood to take revenge on one race seems odd...but for some reason every time I imagine "The Captive" I keep seeing a Gravemind or something close to that form...
