Just curious as to which one is the most popular. For me personally Cryptum was awesome, though Onyx comes in a close second. Personally I liked the more space opera-ish feel to Cryptum more than the books driven towards constant action and reaction.

So, what's your favorite novel and why?

EDIT: Darn it! Left Cryptum un-capitalized. >_<

Fall of Reach
followed closely by Ghosts of Onyx

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

1. Ghost of Onyx
2. First Strike
3. Fall of Reach

I love the nonstop action of them all and the emotion of GoH's ending.

The Razor.

For the honour of the Mirratord.

Cryptum, without a doubt. It has the best story and characterisation of all of them, and explores with some really deep yet relatable themes. It also brilliantly fleshes out the time of the Forerunners in a totally original way.

I don't understand oral at all. I will never do that it is so nasty! And doing things in woods sounds scary.

Fall of Reach.

Everything the game could of been, but wasn't.

1: Fall of Reach
2: First Strike
3: Ghosts of Onyx/Cryptum (because both are great but also have a lot of "boring" parts compared to the parts that make you want to read on and on for 100+ pages at a time)
4: Evolutions
5: Cole Protocol
6: The Flood (liked its secondary stories (Keyes, Zazamee & Yayap and Jenkins) a lot, but you already knew the main story...)

Have yet to read Contact Harvest but couldn't get myself past the first 36 pages. Will give it another try soon.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

I absolutely loved Contact Harvest and Cole Protocol, my favourite would have to be the former.

Ghosts of Onyx by far.

I don't understand why everyone loves Fall of Reach so much. Sure, it was good, but not THAT good. Cryptum was far superior in my opinion.

I am a practicing traditional Catholic.

I liked The Flood the most (although I haven't yet read Cryptum) because I think it was the most epic and had the best story. I mean, it was THE Halo story.

2nd place would go to The Cole Protocol because of its story with the Sangheili and Thel.

But it's horribly written. It's so repetitive...

I had a hard time deciding between Contact Harvest and Cryptum. In the end, I settled on CH, but Cryptum is a very, very close second.

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Oooo thats a toughy

Loving Crytum atm, almost finished it
Fall of Reach was Groundbreaking... and Ghosts of onyx was just outstanding

But so was Cole Protocal... Gah, ill have to go with Cryptum, its just so revolutionary and Greg Bear, well, i can see why hes won awards :P

Id go Cryptum, Evolutions, Ghosts of Onyx, Fall of Reach, then Cole Protocal

This.

Reach; I've only read that, contact harvest and the flood anyway...

  • 01.29.2011 6:38 AM PDT

I like turtles

Cryptum and Ghosts of Onyx are pretty close... and Fall of Reach I really liked seeing how they trained the Spartans.

Can anyone fill me in on why Fall of Reach is so well liked? I haven't read it for some time, but I don't recall it being that good.

TFOR. Too bad bungie decided to ignore basically everything that happened in it. If they decided to combine the stories of the book and the game in Halo 2 it wouldve been a hell of a lot better, imo.

But why? I just don't understand why it is considered the best. Because it was the first? It was well written, but not brilliantly written. It had good characters, but not incredibly developed characters. It had good action, but not great action. It had an interesting storyline, not a deep, utterly engaging one.

  • 01.29.2011 9:26 AM PDT

-blam!- Was that actually blammed out? Or did I just type it? You'll never know.

In order of great to leastest:
First Strike
Fall of Reach
Cole Protocol
Contact Harvest
Ghosts of Onyx
The Flood
Cryptum
