So I recently got the new 'December 2010' version of Halo: First Strike.

I was reading the foreword, an thought that it brought up more questions than answers!

**SPOILER WARNING**

At the bottom of the first page, it reads;
Halsey's excavation of the Forerunner cavern in First Strike can be glimpsed at in the Reach game...
...errr, hang on a second, the structure in the 'Reach game' resides under ONI Sword Base, the Forerunner cavern in First Strike, is located under Castle Base, deep inside the Menachite Mountain.
So what the person who wrote the Foreword was smoking, we will never know.

Moving on, I quote;
In the aftermath of the launch of Halo: Reach, the prequel video game for the Xbox 360, readers have a lot of questions. Luckily, for all Halo novels, First Strike is the one that answers the most, at least as those questions relate to the events of Halo 1, 2 and Reach.
Now to me, that sounds like it says that the questions posed in Reach, are going to be answred in First Strike. Right?

The questions I most want anwered are;
1. What happened to Jun?
2. Why was the Autumn on the planet surface?
3. If Halsey knew about the Forerunner structure under Sword base, why was she unaware of those under Castle?

Well, i have read all the way to Chapter 18, and the Adjunct, and alas, my questions have not been answered.

Now don't get silly saying 'read the whole book' or somthing like that, I am in the proccess of doing so. I am mearly bringing to light that this is the 3rd book to be re-released, where 343 had the opertunity to explain some of the inconsistencies of Reach, and have failed misserably.

Definitive Edition, I think not.

I don't understand why they don't just change the books to fit in the canon when it is possible, and when it isn't, just say that those parts of the games were non-canon.

Answering the questions required would be a complete rewrite. Tor is lazy and so would not attempt such a feat.

Read my first post for a partial response. As for the rest...

... don't the games take priority? /flamesimminent.

Not realy.
How hard would it have been to add a page or two in section zero (chaper 1), saying that, ONI requested the Autumn to land on the surface to retreave a package. It was towed down by a tug, docked and then lifted off again and left the system.

Simple :)

FoR!Autumn wasn't following the month-long battle of reach timeline - therefore having no real reason to land. They seem to be going for book internal consistency above one single Haloverse consistency.

Basically, blame FoR. That's the one that'd require a complete rewrite to mesh with the rest of the 'verse - and not just H:R's changes, either.

That's what I always believed.

1) Bungie confirmed Jun survived.

2) The Forerunner ruins were extremely massive. Is it really hard to believe they stretched as far as Sword to CASTLE?

3) I was under the impression she WAS aware of those under CASTLE. Unless I remembered it wrong.

And as for the PoA being on the surface...God knows how that happened.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Do what I do, discard the books as canon breaking. Which they are. TFoR wrecks Reach and First Strike destroys Halo 2.

How exactly does First Strike wreck Halo 2? Wasn't everything cleared up in Ghosts of Onyx?
