150,000 B.C.E.
Humanity is believed by the Forerunners to have "moved their interstellar civilization outward along the galactic arm"
110,000 B.C.E.
Human colonists discover vessels containing fine organic powder on both inhabited and deserted worlds. This powder is administered to the domesticated Pheru, which begin to exhibit more docile behavior; unbeknownst to humanity and their San 'Shyuum allies, the powder begins to alter the Pheru's genetic makeup. Centuries later, the Pheru begin to show outward signs of mutation and cannibalize one another. Soon, both humans and San 'Shyuum who are exposed to the powder begin to exhibit the same symptoms.
The Flood then begins to take over hundreds of worlds, turning its victims into misshapen forms. Humanity begins all-out war against the Flood. Eventually, humanity discovers a cure for the Flood and contains the infection while it is still relatively minor, removing all traces of its existence within the Milky Way Galaxy. Throughout the war, most Forerunners remain unaware of the Flood's existence, believing stories of the parasite to be an excuse for humanity's aggressive expansion. The Flood are not seen again for ten millenia.
During their war against the Flood, humanity desparately invades a minor sector of Forerunner space, sparking the Human-Forerunner War. Stretched thin due to fighting two wars simultaneously, humanity loses the war and the Forerunners eliminate all traces of humanity's former interstellar civilization. The human survivors are exiled to their homeworld, Erde-Tyrene. Over the course of the next millennia, humanity regresses into a pre-industrial state and eventually devolves into several species, including the Hamanush, the Chamanush, the B'ashamanush, and the K'tamanush.
109,000 B.C.E.
The Librarian establishes a research station on Earth and moves the surviving humans from the Human-Forerunner Wars there. Humanity soon regresses into a pre-industrial state.
100,300 B.C.E.
First contact is made between a Forerunner research team and the Flood on G617 g1. A military team was sent in later after contact had been lost. The Flood escaped the planet, thus beginning the 3-century-long Forerunner-Flood War.
100,043 B.C.E.
The Forerunners sent 032 Mendicant Bias to combat the Flood threat and Gravemind.[1] Mendicant Bias would eventually turn against his makers and fight for the Gravemind.
At the same time the Librarian returns to Earth to index the human species. The entire species is removed from the surface of the planet and held on the Ark.
100,000 B.C.E.
The approximate time when The Forerunners fired the Halos[1], or what the Covenant refer to as The Great Journey. 343 Guilty Spark put the date as the year 97,448 B.C.E, though it should be noted that he measured it on Installation 04's year, not the 365.25 day Earth calendar.
The activation was supposed to end the Forerunner-Flood War. It killed all sentient life within three radii of the galactic center, including any Forerunners not located on The Ark or within Shield Worlds. The date, about 100,000 years ago, is around the time our sapien ancestors began migrating out of Africa.
97,227 B.C.E.
A report is sent to 2401 Penitent Tangent regarding Flood containment failure in one particular facility, urging assistance due to the dangers of a full outbreak. Penitent Tangent ignores this report and protocol despite multiple and more urgent reminders. He continued to ignore this for another 99,779 years, at which point a full outbreak had already occurred, but by then it was too late.
57,448 B.C.E.
A meteor bearing Forerunner symbols crashes on the planet that will be known as Sigma Octanus IV. It will be discovered approximately 60,000 years later.
2200 B.C.E
After centuries of unity the San 'Shyuum become divided into two groups, the Stoics who believe that Forerunner relics were sacred and not to be altered, and the Reformists who wish to more closely examine the artifacts and use them for their own purposes. This fundamental disagreement sparks the San 'Shyuum Civil War.
2100 B.C.E.
The century-long San 'Shyuum Civil War comes to an end as one thousand Reformists enter the Forerunner Dreadnought and flee the San 'Shyuum homeworld.
938 B.C.E.
The San 'Shyuum first encounter the Sangheili on Sanghelios who, like the Stoics, believe that Forerunner relics are to be worshipped, not modified.[1] This ideological difference results in the Sangheili-San 'Shyuum War, in which the Sangheili have a distinct advantage in infantry combat due to superior numbers and troop quality. However, in space combat the San 'Shyuum have a great advantage because of their Dreadnought.
876 B.C.E.
After decades of struggle between the Sangheili and San 'Shyuum in the Sangheili-San 'Shyuum War, the Sangheili finally accept that they must adapt and study their Forerunner relics or face defeat at the hands of the San 'Shyuum. The Sangheili warrior priests reluctantly begin using their relics to improve their warships, arms and armor.
852 B.C.E.
The Sangheili and San 'Shyuum end their war, merging to form the Covenant. The Council of Concordance ratifies the Writ of Union, clearly defining the roles of the San 'Shyuum and the Sangheili.
784 B.C.E.
During one of the first Ages of Conversion Covenant forces discover the planet Te and with it the Lekgolo. They discover that many of the Lekgolo worm colonies have literally devoured Forerunner artifacts and installations, while others eat everything except Forerunner installations. The Lekgolo initially prove difficult to defeat because of their ability to combine into the powerful Mgalekgolo, however due in part to their superior spaceship technology the Covenant are able to ally with and tame the useful Lekgolo, and exterminate the relic-destroying colonies in what will come to be known as the Taming of the Hunters. The compliant Lekgolo are incorporated into the Writ of Union in 784 B.C.E.

The San 'Shyuum homeworld of Janjur Qom is destroyed by a natural stellar collapse and the Forerunner Dreadnought is made into the centerpiece of the new space station that will serve as the Covenant's capital, High Charity..
The San 'Shyuum homeworld of Janjur Qom is destroyed by a natural stellar collapse and the Forerunner Dreadnought is made into the centerpiece of the new space station that will serve as the Covenant's capital, High Charity. It is unknown whether or not the descendants of the Reformer San 'Shyuum had ever physically returned to their homeworld after they left it in 2100 B.C.E. during their schism with the Stoic San 'Shyuum.
480 B.C.E.
In The Battle of Thermopylae of 480 BC, an alliance of Greek city-states fought the invading Persian Empire at the pass of Thermopylae in central Greece. Vastly outnumbered, the Greeks held back the massive army of Persians for three days in one of history's most famous last stands. A small force led by King Leonidas of Sparta blocked the only road through which the massive army of Xerxes I could pass. After three days of battle, a local resident named Ephialtes betrayed the Greeks by revealing a mountain path that led behind the Greek lines. Dismissing the rest of the army, King Leonidas stayed behind with 300 Spartans and 700 Thespian volunteers. The Persians succeeded in taking the pass but sustained heavy losses, extremely disproportionate to those of the Greeks.
The fierce resistance of the Spartan-led army offered Athens invaluable time to prepare for a decisive naval battle that would determine the outcome of the war. The subsequent Greek victory at the Battle of Salamis left much of the Persian navy destroyed and Xerxes I was forced to retreat back to Asia, leaving his army in Greece under Mardonius, who met the Greeks in battle one last time. The Spartans assembled at full strength and led a pan-Greek army that defeated the Persians decisively at the Battle of Plataea, ending the Greco-Persian War and with it the expansion of the Persian Empire into Europe. This war was shown by Deja on the first day of Spartan training.

The Yanme'e; a tier 4 civilization, are incorporated into the Covenant as a slave race.
1342[b]
In 1342 the Covenant discover the Kig-Yar. Although the Kig-Yar initially attempt to resist absorbtion into the alliance they quickly recognize that they are facing a superior force and submit, taking on the role of explorers and traders (and often thieves and smugglers). The Kig-Yar are also motivated by the potential trade and wealth the Covenant can provide.
[b]1552
In 1552, the San 'Shyuum began developing technologies that could increase their life spans
1775
In 1775, the formation of the United States of America was declared. Also, the Continental Marines, a predecessor to the United States Marine Corps, the UN Marine Corps and the UNSC Marine Corps, were established by the Continental Congress to fight the British. There were two battalions of Continental Marines. However, only one was ever established. They were disbanded in 1783, after the rebels won their independence from Britain.
