Subject: Will 343 give us with the same satisfying experience that Bungie has?

My favorite is without question Halo CE, I mean, they did it in months, and for a 2001 game, it did extremely well.

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

did you just imply that we've slept with 343 AND Bungie?

  • 01.31.2011 5:26 PM PDT

I breathe BR, not kidding homie.

knowing that theres former bungie employees there, and that the people who wrok there are working like soleyly of their love of halo, id say theres a good chance wed get quality experience from them, maybe even equivelent to bungie,

still wont take away the weird feeling of it being a halo game w/o bungie tho

Without Marty and Steve Downes... not sure.

Steve Downes doesn't work for Bungie. They can re-hire him for the Chief. I think he realises he sorta IS the Chief. You can't have John-117 without that badass voice, and he recognizes that.

^^^though, the guy above me has a point.

Bungie was always the studio-- the studio--who made Halo. Now...its just sad to see them go.

Now there's a problem if people think Halo is the best Bungie has ever done lol

Haha this is true. But truthfully Halo: Reach was a learning experience for them. They tried something different by enabling players to have different advantages over others with the armor abilities. But I will agree that Reach did just create alot of paradoxes in the plot. If I had to pick a favorite personally, it would be 3 because of the way they really put their time and effort into what a video game needs to be, and that is the story. If they were to make one where it shows John returning to Reach after it had been rebuilt and him finding Six's helmet in the ground; well this would just be the best thing ever in my opinion haha.

I'm not going to talk about gameplay because that can be talked about for months as we have seen on the forums.

What bothers me is that I know Bungie can do amazing stories. Marathon is a perfect example. It's in my top list of stories in all of fiction, not just science fiction. To be fair Marathon was in a simpler time and it's a lot easier to make a good story when it's only told through text but it was still solid.

Reach was a good experiment. The acting was good for the lead roles but there was no real development for the characters. There was nothing to make me care about them. When Kat and Carter died I felt nothing. I did feel some slight empathy towards Jorge but that's about it.

I don't know what Bungie can do to improve their stories for future projects but I would say character development is where they should concentrate. Make me care about the character by evolving them. Give them tough choices to decide on so we're invested. Also don't make their AI worthless. It doesn't help people care about the main characters if there worth less then nothing in battle.

I am the Troll King.

Bungie could have done alot better with reach. We games like halo 2 and halo CE again. I belive 343 can do it.

BLAM!!!

As someone who feels that after halo 2 halo games in general have been sub-par, I feel we should give 343 a chance. Go play halos 1 and 2 for a while. Play the multiplayer, play throughly through the campaign, find all the skulls; then switch to halo 3 or any halos after it, and you will find that they are nothing like the old, both gameplay and story-wise. From a campaign perspective, odst and reach didnt even follow the established storyline from the halo universe. They were all fun in their own right, and i have to admit halo 3 has a great multiplayer, but the last 3 are still nothing similar to the first 2. And as someone who has been around since the beginning, the first couple games are the ones that define halo for me. Bungie has already changed too much, "franchised" the series, and trashed the campaigns and stories. Still, Im going to buy the next halo game. But if it doesnt improve on the last few, it will be the last one i buy. :P

You look unto me now through the profile screen found at http://www.bungie.net/Account/Profile.aspx. Here we are, mutually faceless, both ones in the Seventh.

I'll always be optimistic about anything Frankie's behind, and 343 has an impressive roster of employees. I'm feeling good about whatever 343 is up to.

I agree with some of this. I ask, though, how did they change the story in Reach? ODST was an add on and they could have done anything with it because there was not set anything about there being ODSTs left there in any book or game. And I don't know about trashing the story in Halo 3. When they announced that this would be where they ended the story, I think (personally) that they really put alot into 3. I liked it. I am not dissing on you or anything but I am just saying.

Anyone who says Halo 3 was the best obviously did not start playing Halo before 2007.

I played Halo when it first came out and Halo 3 is my favourite. It's the Halo game I've had the most fun playing.

Now there's a problem if people think Halo is the best Bungie has ever done lol

Then chances are you did not play very much Halo: CE and 2 back then, or if you did you weren't performing very well.

I like turtles

I think a great story would be the Chief leading teams of marines to quell different rebelious factions of the covenant. And the Arbiter could... do something awesome, I don't know what though.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Where's the "Maybe" option? Nobody can really know if 343i's Halo game is going to be good. They haven't developed any game yet, so how are we supposed to know what they're capable of?

  • 02.01.2011 7:38 AM PDT

Sorry, I left out the maybe button haha. And no dissing on others in this thread please. And 343 created Halo Waypoint. No, its not a game but a mere application.

  • 02.01.2011 8:07 AM PDT

kelly clarkson.........

What does this all meen for B.net. So we just pack up and go to Waypoint??? I think they will do a good job but time will tell.

I know I can be quite annoying on these forums (hehe) but I am curious about this also: http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=56021586&v iewreplies=true. If you get the chance comment and/or vote there also.

What does "performing well" have to do with liking a game? Yes if you're absolutely terrible at a game some of the fun can be lost but that's not all there is to games.

I suck at the Marathon games when compared to a lot of other people and yet it's still my favourite game series. I love going through the campaign and occasionally I'll play some multiplayer games and have fun playing with others who love the game just as much as I do, regardless of my stats at the end of the matches we play. I still play it to this date even though the series as a whole is over 15 years old.

I played Halo 2 the most in terms of campaign but overall I had more fun playing Halo 3 because of all the options available. I had a blast playing with my friends in MLG, or custom games such as fatman or hide and seek or playing coop.

I'm sorry that you think you can only have fun at a game if you're "performing well" at it.

What if I told you...

*scoots in closer*

I hate you

Peeps from Bungie are working at 343!

if any company can make a proper campaign, it's Epic games. I have high hopes for 343. <3

Never say you're bored. Never say you're satisfied with the world. Never stop doubting or questioning things. Always wonder. Always think. But always take time to drop your guard, you don't have to be smart all the time.

I'm know that they won't let us down

  • 02.01.2011 3:47 PM PDT

:P

Hopefully, they will continue the Halo legacy and not make games that lack any content only for the purpose of money.
