Subject: Alright. Serious Question.

*SPOILERS**

I have read many forums about the glitches that Halo Reach has committed but I have only one last question.

WHERE THE HECK DOES JUN GO?

Jorge gets cozy with a Covenant Supercarrier

Kat takes one in the head.

Emile goes down like a champion

Carter crashes a Pelican into apparently the most fragile Scarab ever.....

And you get become Carmen Haynes for all the Elites on the Planet.

But Jun?

I have played through the campaign multiple times, and not only does he disappear, but Dr. Halsey apparently gets to C.A.S.T.L.E base to meet up with Red team? Hmmmm. When and how did this happen?

Reference: Halo: First Strike...

I liked that if you are quick enough, in the Lone Wolf mission you can see other fallen Spartans, but they are Omega and some other teams? What? Where are these additional Spartans popping up from? And WHY do they have armor similar to Master Chief? SPI armor was all Spartan III's had to work with. NO SHIELDS.

P.S. In hindsight, thank god for the shields, cause this campaign would have been ODST2 with no shields.

We don't know what really happens to Jun.

Those Spartans at the end are non-canonical.

New First Strike has nothing, so assume he survives, having been evacuated offworld after escorting Halsey to CASTLE.

Jun on Earth. Covies don't stand a chance!

Non-canon? Says who?

If they were direct mirrors of your fallen squadmates, you could argue this. They are not. They're quite obviously unique Spartans with their own story.

If somebody's opinion is being smashed and nobody's helping, I try and help. I use logic and extensive vocabulary (and sometimes self-destructive circular reasoning) to confuse my enemies into submission. Fear me, trolling, fapping creatures of the night. For I. Am your worst nightmare.

That was a commonly asked question by those who've read Ghosts of Onyx. But what we've deducted since then is that NOBLE is a group of SIII's that are field testing a new armor system for future Spartan III companies to replace the current SPI armor so they can decrease the casualty rate of the III's and turn them into "mini-Spartans" instead of "desposable heroes".

The "field-testing" of new armor systems you're referring to has an unusually large amount of modifications and options for "field-test" items. Just putting that out there.

Ackerson wanted to make sure that his Spartans survived.

  • 01.31.2011 7:46 PM PDT

lol.

Uh, if I'm not mistaken, NOBLE uses MJOLNIR armor. Not "new armor systems."

Also, SPARTAN-III Headhunters are issued MJOLNIR. It's not hard to believe other specialized, best of the best S-III teams (e.g. NOBLE Team) would be issued MJOLNIR as well.

I remember from Ghosts of Onyx, " You want to make disposable heroes". Exact quote. Ackerson wanted to trade lives for time.

Also Lizzard 8, I was wondering about this. There sure were alot of companies handling classified Mjolnir armor components apparently all over the galaxy. Go through your armory. You will see where they were produced.

  • 01.31.2011 8:29 PM PDT

cerberous226 I was not sure about that since after the Lone Wolf mission, you see other Spartans that have fallen apparently in a last ditch effort to survive. They roughly have the same armor as you do. Also, Kat makes mention to other Spartan III teams on reach. That's a hell of alot of Spartans for field testing.

I can't go read the descriptions now, but most of them cite locations rather than manufacturers (other than Misriah Armory, who seems to manufacture the vast majority, if not all, of the UNSC's ground war materièl). The UNSC is the United Earth Government's main scientific and military arm, and these could easily be UNSC facilities. Correct me if I'm wrong.

What does that have to do with my post, though?

We will know soon enough, but it will require thought. Deep thought. Mendicant Bias must be found. The Mantle will soon follow.

More testers = more results, which can yield more precise conclusions. Logic fits with the decision to use so many to field test the armor.

Again, it's MJOLNIR armor, not some S-III exclusive prototype stuff.

No, if it was MJOLNIR, then it would look exactly like what the SII's were wearing. Since they each look different from each other, we have to assume that they were field testing other variants of the MJOLNIR armor. Although it still brandishes the MJOLNIR name, that still doesnt mean it is exactly the MJOLNIR Mk IV-V armor variant.

Bear in mind that the original MJOLNIR armor was designed only for SPARTAN II's initially, and many of them shattered their own limbs simply thinking about moving inside it. One might imagine that some drastic changes would be necessary to occur in order to even guarantee the slightest chance of a SPARTAN III's survival, all of which would need massive field testing performed for safer, more accurate suits.

EDIT: So, technically, it is actually a prototype variation of MJOLNIR armor.

No, they still wore the SPI armor, they just field tested different tech in their armor. The Head-Hunters from Evolutions were field-testing the UNSC varient of the AvCam unit as well as the VISR visual enhancement mode.

After just skimming through HeadHunters, it seems as if it never specifies, only mentioning "power armor." I could have sworn it mentioned MJOLNIR or shields, but it doesn't seem so. Could be either, I suppose, though I'd think ONI would outfit their "top-tier Covenant killers" with the best of the best, especially considering they recieved VISR upgrades and a prototype active camouflage unit.

No, it was a normal human who shattered his own limb by attempting to move in the MJOLNIR armor. The heightened reflexes of a Spartan allow them to operate the armor just fine.

While the MJOLNIR was designed for S-IIs, I am sure it has measures to allow it to fit different sized individuals, and, as such, would fit S-IIIs just fine.

And the only S-II seen in Reach is Jorge, who has a heavily customized "heavy" variant of MJOLNIR armor.

The default helmet is called Mark VB, so we have to assume that it is a variation. Also if you look at the SPARTANS butts(I was looking for reserch purposes) they look alot less bulky than the S-II's so logically it is a different armour or variation.

Jimghost

not to get off topic but does marathon have anything to do with the Halos?

  • 02.01.2011 1:12 AM PDT

Hey.

I'm awkward. Do you want to be awkward together?

...

That was nice.

In my opinion, the dead Spartans at the end are probably just to illustrate the death of so many heroes, and show that Spartans DO die. Sorta like Noble 6 hallucinating before his very own death, and coming to terms with the death of so many others just like him. So the bodies aren't actually there, it's just his mind tricking him.

OR they're there to represent other players, since the armour is randomly generated. The level is a sort of uncanon situation to show the canonical death of Noble 6.

But about Jun... He probably escorted Halsey to Castle Base and then went off and got himself killed doing some illusive sniper stuff. I dunno :)

  • 02.01.2011 5:18 AM PDT

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

Jun dies escorted Dr. Halsey. Read the new version of The Fall of Reach. It says it in one of the side stories at the end of the book.

  • 02.01.2011 5:59 AM PDT

Really? Wow....They wrapped that up without even notifying anyone.
