Subject: Could anything beat the flood?

Posted by: Finnish_Spartan
*cough* Halo: Cryptum Spoilers *Cough*
The humans defeated the flood, then got anhilated by the Forerunners. Then the flood returned to terrorize the forerunners.

No, they defeated an exceptionally primitive non-gravemind version of the Flood. Born states Forerunners found them "in new ans unexpected forms" on another planet, probably G617g.

we plausably could, but we'd have to nuke the zone of contamination almost immediatly, which we would be very unlikely to do. Once it spreads the world would be overrun in weeks, maybe less

hours or even minutes actually. The Forerunners couldn't beat them on the ground and could only hold out for a few days. I doubt we could.

Amnyway, you could understandably beat the Flood in the Feral stage (with an immense amount of caution), but if the Gravemind is established, anything anywhere is -blam!- royally.

Once the Flood turn all of its enemy's traits on their enemy (and note they vastly improve on those traits), no matter who you are, you will eventually lose.
it would take longer than that simply because the flood cant travel that fast, if everyone in the world was in one place then yeh, it would probibly only take an hour or so

A green suit of armor, a few well-placed bullets and a lot of luck.

If all the space marines converged on the flood they would be able to beat them.

  • 02.01.2011 11:29 PM PDT

Twice the halo rings have been needed to defeat the flood. Cant say they were a bad investment on the forerunner part. The elites were able contain many of them though.

I'm 23, I have a house, dog, girlfriend, job and I have no interest in any fanboyism so if you're thinking about sending me a childish PM, don't be surprised when I don't call back.

Brute force is the worst weapon against the Flood, if it lives, it can be infected.

It gets better

Well, the Reapers from MA could, given they are not alive.

who thinks I should make a thread comparing flood to zombie apocalypse?

I would say that the Elites would do well enough, but would they defeat them? no, but they could survive, thanks to their combat armour.
I think the only ones to defeat them would be SPOILERS their creators, the Precursors.

No.

Nothing can defeat the flood.

The Array was able to halt & contain the Flood.

Has life ever felt like a really bad sitcom?

Yuatja, or the Predators could to it. Their bodies explode when they're defeated, and other than that they could handle xenomorphs, which are also parasitic.

Lol,the flood ain't stupid.

They brought the forerunners down to their knees, the same forerunners will ground forces that can destroy the entire planets surface.

Modern era humans would...fail.

I will probably fight down to my last breath, then wake up again as a combat form or biomass for the pure forms

It practically is. If you read the end of Halo Cryptum:

[MAJOR SPOILERS]
"I am the last of those your kind rose up against and ruthlessly destroyed.
I am the last Precursor.
And our answer is at hand."

This is after Born has fled with other Forunners to the Ark after the battle at the Forunner capital. And he says that "Somewhere in the humans' awakened memory lay our last hope of defeating the Flood, which was even now ravaging world after world, system after system - more hideous by far that it had been a thousand years before."

The Precursor is obviously referring to the Flood and how it is their revenge on the Forunners. This suggests that more likely than not they created it as a last ditch attempt to survive. Much like how the Forunners used the Halo Array.
[MAJOR SPOILERS]

It would be easy to spread the infection :P

The flood could be beat, but nothing in the star wars/mass effect or halo universe could stop them.

Reapers? The final cutscene of Mass Effect 2 with Reapers as far as you can see is pretty scary. They'd give the Flood a hell of a fight.

Wake me when the jews are gone.

the flood is the ultimate threat it can't be defeated it can only be slowed
