This man, this man right here put it so eloquently that I actually cancelled my own 2000+ word long post.
/slow clap for respect

:)
The person who said participating is important, not winning, obviously never won anything.

If the Flood has expanded across multiple systems, I highly dobut it.

no, the flood would win by sheer numbers, although they'd need usable hosts around since the xenomorph's acid blood would prevent infection. plus they appear to be arthropods so they might not even have a spine. although the same goes for a xenomorph, theres no way a fetus could grow in something as sick and ravaged as a combat form.

A good point... But say they have a supply of "cattle" such as a few hundred of some of the species in halo (each). The xenomorphs would win.

KOTOR

Easy question:

Warhammer 40K Necrons

also

Warhammer 40K Chaos demons.

The Necrons are essentially living souls trapped in metallic bodies, so the Flood infection can't do anything about that. Besides that, the Necron gauss weapon technology flays matter on a molecular level stripping molecules apart, so that would totally destroy flood biomass (as well as anything else).

The Chaos forces (as in Chaos demons) would also destroy the Flood. Chaos demons don't actually have bodies and use hosts, willing or unwilling, as their vehicles in the real world. So basically, chaos demons can just possess flood bodies. Heck, a major Chaos demon can just possess the Gravemind and tell the Flood to go screw themselves. Not to mention, everytime a demon is defeated, it doesn't die. It simply gets banished back to the demon realm and can be re-manifested in the real world.

the flood is the ultimate threat it can't be defeated it can only be slowed

Ah you poor Naive fool.

Let me devide what could beat the Flood into several catagories for you.

For each of these examples, the Flood will start off with a force consisting of a Gravemind, with anywhere between 1000 to 1,000,000,000 various forms above the Infection form(Combat, Carrier, Pure), based on whom they are fighting, starting with UNSC and Covenant Gear. A number of Non FTL capable covenant Ships based on just how powerfull the setting is as well.

1st The Untouchables: These are the Species, Factions, and Universes that no matter how hard the flood try, they can't beat the OP-FOR(Oposing Force). I'll devide these into two sub-catagories of examples, the Machines, and the Advanced.

The Machines are self explanitory; Thing the Flood can't Infect, such as Terminators, the Matrix, Geth, Replicators, Asurans, and Necrons. Most of those examples could also toe to toe Flood forms in battle on both the Tactical sense as well as stratgetic.

The Advanced are races that the Flood Couldn't Beat even if they were given the best of the Forerunners arsenel. The Culture, the Jurians, the Old Ones, The Ancients, the List goes on. The Technological edge is so great, the Flood won't know what hit them.

A race that doesn't quite fit into the Sub-Catagories, but is Untouchable to the Flood is Homeworld cataclysms Beast. Where the Flood can infect a single being in a few seconds, the Beast can Infect a Capital ship in a similar time span. The Fact the Beast is for all intents and purposes a Red colored Grey Goo gives the Beast a seat here.

2nd The Rivals; These are the Races that in theory the Flood Could infect....If the stars were right, and Fate smiled upon the Flood. These are the Factions that to infect one member requires one to Pin it to the ground for a few minutes. These species tend to Either infect or just destroy anything around them, much like the Flood, earning them the Title of Rival. Examples include the Tyranids, the Zerg, the Arachnids(take your pick of Novel, Movie, TV Show, and RPG Game), The 40k Orks, The Yuzong Vong, Etc. Each "Basic" Unit/Solider/Member of the Rival Species can not only toe to toe with Combat Forms, but some may even enjoy it. Most of the Rival Species will crush the Flood before it can get very far.

3rd The Exterminators; Couldn't quite think of a more Creative name to acurately describe these. These are the majority of Factions out there. These go anywhere from GDI from CnC3 to The Imperium of Man of the grim Dark future of the 41st Milenium. These factions/Universes can win through various means, usually if they play their cards smart, and compentently do things. They are devided into further sub catagories.

A. The Brute force; These are the ones that don't play the Subtle or Technobable game, they go strait for the Nads with overwhelming force. Notable Examples are the IOM and GDI. In the IOM's Case, it really depends on where the Flood ends up. Personally it would be pretty funny if the Flood showed up on Catachan, just to see the Flood get mangled by the Death World. Ploping the Flood down anywhere will atract attention, usually of the Inquistorial Kind. These are the Guys that will burn a world to cinders if a Witch(Psyker) is suspected to be on it(though in their defense, Untrained Psykers can be used as Portals By Deamons, so it is Justified). The Flood Could also come under the gun sights of any branch of the Imperium, as well as a few Neighbors, such as Chaos and the Eldar, both whom would bring the hurt to the Flood. In GDI's Case, they could defeat the Flood not only with superweapons such as the Ion Cannons, but with conventional weapons(Which are better than their UNSC counterparts) or even letting the Tiberium kill the flood for them.

B. The Technobable; These are the Factions that will be able to come up with a cure or a defense to the Flood through the power of science. Notable races include the United Federation of Planets(UFP), X-Com, Higgarins(Homeworld), and a few others.

maybe the zerg, only because the zerg might beat them at their own game.

Plasma torpedos and such could eliminate graveminds, you just need to have a ship, Master Chief after retreiving coratana, could of had gotten UNSC ships to target the area, if any were avaliable.
That's just it. High Charity blew up, and destroyed his body. Yet the Gravemind lived.

For a Gravemind to die, you need to eradicate the Flood.

How?
Where did it say that? How could I miss that?

The Forerunners couldnt beat them thats why the built the halo rings and ended all life

  • 02.02.2011 8:58 PM PDT

The Reapers from Mass Effect would easily win. They are the apex of evolution and existence and have been repeatedly raping an entire Galaxy of life for millions of years, possibly ever since it was first created, hell, the Reapers themselves probably created the Milky Way to farm species to support them for whatever reason. The Reapers are f--king gods, only one man can stop them, Commander Shepard, because he's the goddamn Commander. So, yeah, only four forces in existant could kill the Flood.

1. The Reapers
2. Commander Shepard
3. The Xenomorph
4. Chuck Norris

=)

Mind=Blown

The Reapers are playing the universe like minecraft!

Our galaxy is just a monster spawner which spawns organic life every 50000 or so years. Our galaxy is also a monster trap that allow the reapers to farm us for resources.

I am never making a farming trap around a monster spawner in minecraft again.

Precisely, and the Flood is probably just their pet science project, while we're ants in an antfarm. (=

To be Fair, the Forerunners aren't exactly The Smartest of the Bunch of Old Dickish Races in the Multiverse.

There are several Old "Precursor" Races that do a far better job of dealing with their deamons besides the Nuke all life option.

  • 02.02.2011 10:09 PM PDT

The humans that existed before the Precursors "devolved" them actually found a way to stonewall the Flood without using the Halo Rings (they weren't even created yet). However, it came at a high price. The government apparently injected a quarter of the human species with a virus that would kill the Flood when they infested those humans. So when the Flood traveled to a world populated by those same humans, they could never find proper hosts nor food.

Attention whores piss me off.

A civilization of pure robots. Nothing biological to infect. The Flood would never move past infection forms.

smart, interesting, seems out of place.

Official fan of Assassin's Creed, Call of Duty, (Problem with that?) Halo, and Bungie, also a total gaming junkie.

Necromorphs from DS, they could just infect the Flood's Infection Forms. The Flood would attack the Flood.

Xenos are slow compared to the Flood. The Gravemind is also vastly more intelligent. The Flood Super Cell would allow for a Pure Form variant to be created for the purpose of fighting the Xenos (maybe even resist acid blood, Predator style).

The FSC is the end-game aspect of the Flood.

Also note that it is impossible to counterinfect the Flood. Xenos might be able to do it because its more of a pregnancy rather then infection, but the likes of the Necromorphs...

Well, the Necros are -blam!-. We already established that in the Flood vs Necro debate.

And the guy talking about the Reapers better have been kidding... -_-
