the flood is the ultimate threat it can't be defeated it can only be slowed
Ah you poor Naive fool.
Let me devide what could beat the Flood into several catagories for you.
For each of these examples, the Flood will start off with a force consisting of a Gravemind, with anywhere between 1000 to 1,000,000,000 various forms above the Infection form(Combat, Carrier, Pure), based on whom they are fighting, starting with UNSC and Covenant Gear. A number of Non FTL capable covenant Ships based on just how powerfull the setting is as well.
1st The Untouchables: These are the Species, Factions, and Universes that no matter how hard the flood try, they can't beat the OP-FOR(Oposing Force). I'll devide these into two sub-catagories of examples, the Machines, and the Advanced.
The Machines are self explanitory; Thing the Flood can't Infect, such as Terminators, the Matrix, Geth, Replicators, Asurans, and Necrons. Most of those examples could also toe to toe Flood forms in battle on both the Tactical sense as well as stratgetic.
The Advanced are races that the Flood Couldn't Beat even if they were given the best of the Forerunners arsenel. The Culture, the Jurians, the Old Ones, The Ancients, the List goes on. The Technological edge is so great, the Flood won't know what hit them.
A race that doesn't quite fit into the Sub-Catagories, but is Untouchable to the Flood is Homeworld cataclysms Beast. Where the Flood can infect a single being in a few seconds, the Beast can Infect a Capital ship in a similar time span. The Fact the Beast is for all intents and purposes a Red colored Grey Goo gives the Beast a seat here.
2nd The Rivals; These are the Races that in theory the Flood Could infect....If the stars were right, and Fate smiled upon the Flood. These are the Factions that to infect one member requires one to Pin it to the ground for a few minutes. These species tend to Either infect or just destroy anything around them, much like the Flood, earning them the Title of Rival. Examples include the Tyranids, the Zerg, the Arachnids(take your pick of Novel, Movie, TV Show, and RPG Game), The 40k Orks, The Yuzong Vong, Etc. Each "Basic" Unit/Solider/Member of the Rival Species can not only toe to toe with Combat Forms, but some may even enjoy it. Most of the Rival Species will crush the Flood before it can get very far.
3rd The Exterminators; Couldn't quite think of a more Creative name to acurately describe these. These are the majority of Factions out there. These go anywhere from GDI from CnC3 to The Imperium of Man of the grim Dark future of the 41st Milenium. These factions/Universes can win through various means, usually if they play their cards smart, and compentently do things. They are devided into further sub catagories.
A. The Brute force; These are the ones that don't play the Subtle or Technobable game, they go strait for the Nads with overwhelming force. Notable Examples are the IOM and GDI. In the IOM's Case, it really depends on where the Flood ends up. Personally it would be pretty funny if the Flood showed up on Catachan, just to see the Flood get mangled by the Death World. Ploping the Flood down anywhere will atract attention, usually of the Inquistorial Kind. These are the Guys that will burn a world to cinders if a Witch(Psyker) is suspected to be on it(though in their defense, Untrained Psykers can be used as Portals By Deamons, so it is Justified). The Flood Could also come under the gun sights of any branch of the Imperium, as well as a few Neighbors, such as Chaos and the Eldar, both whom would bring the hurt to the Flood. In GDI's Case, they could defeat the Flood not only with superweapons such as the Ion Cannons, but with conventional weapons(Which are better than their UNSC counterparts) or even letting the Tiberium kill the flood for them.
B. The Technobable; These are the Factions that will be able to come up with a cure or a defense to the Flood through the power of science. Notable races include the United Federation of Planets(UFP), X-Com, Higgarins(Homeworld), and a few others.
