I have heard that the ones done by Eric Nylund are the best. I have only read First Strike. So I wouldn't really know. But First Strike was kick ass. Lots of action. And it bridges the gap between Halo and Halo 2. But definitley get First Strike no matter what you do.

Well, clearly they're all accurate. Go for First Strike, as it'll tell you about events after Halo 1 and right before Halo 2. Though all three are worth a read/buy.

I can't say which is better, I've just boughten First Strike and The Fall of Reach today. I'm about a third through TFoR and it is really good. It tells about how the SPARTENS were created and the first appearence of the Covenent. From what I heard basically you shouldn't buy just one, I've heard some people say that FS is better and some say TFoR is better. Everyone seems to agree that The Flood is the least of the 3, some saying it sucks and some saying it's good but just not as good as the other 2. I would have bought it too but they store didin't have it anymore. Again I haven't got to FS yet but IMO if you only got one get The Fall of Reach first, since it's the beginning. It'll give you the history leading up to Halo, read it and then get First Strike before Halo 2 comes out and read it, as it takes place after Halo but before Halo 2. If you get the extra money get the Flood sometime to, from what I heard it tells the story of Halo but from the covenents point of view, or something like that.

EDIT: Whoops

the one thing i heard about first strike i did`nt like is the fact it make the brutes out to be to powerful and says there stronger than hunters and faster than elites wich really is inacurate to me.

I think you mean that TFoR takes place at the beginning and FS takes place between Halo and Halo 2.

Who says they won't be. Read the Covenant primer on the B.net main page.

It compares them to the elites speed and strength and not the hunters strength

If i were you i would read all three in order. Fall of Reach, The Flood, First Strike
The are all awsome. i think that the flood is just as good if not better then (FOR)
even though its not by eric nylund. My advice read em all and in order. i did and the next book starts off exactly where the last did. so it is like one big book rahter than 3 small ones. good stuff. im not a big reader, in fact i dont read, unless its really good (halo!) read all 3 in a week
All 3 are accurate (cant really know about FS) The flood even includes quotes from halo.

I believe that the Brutes strength had been compared to that of the Hunters by Bungie.

read about the brutes
Little is known about these giant fur-covered aliens other than they have strength and agility comparable to that of Elites, and that their preferred weapon is different to any yet encountered in Covenant skirmishes. Their political and social status is unknown. We expect updated intelligence, soon.

I say you should read all 3 in order. Of coures I have only read the first one, but this seems like the logical thing to do.

Depends on what you want. If you want to know back story read Fall of Reach. If you want to know what's going on read First Strike. For my self( having read all 3) the Fall of Reach was the best, both plot wise and writing. You can bypass The Flood, it just goes into what happens around the MC on the rest of Halo. Stupid Helljumpers.

In my opinion "the fall of reach" is the best but "first strike kicks ass too.To me you learn way more about the spartans as far as motivations and such and how and why they become who they are. Plus Keyes is awesome in the book

THE FLOOD IS THE BEST ONE

I read each one as they were released. Fall of Reach is still one of my favorite books of all. When the Flood came out, however, I'll say that I was more than just a little disapointed by it. William C. Dietz, even though he has written 20+ books, just cannot write. I enjoyed the Flood, but it was torture reading some of his poorly constructed sentences.

When I found out that First Strike was by Nylund again, I couldn't have been happier. It was amusing to me, as I read it, what Nylund did to kind of wrap up or explain some of the crap that Dietz put in the Flood. First Strike was just as good as Fall of Reach, in my opinion. There were a lot of inconsistencies and such, but one can look past those.

Not to bash the Flood completely, though, I will say that when I read it a second time through it was a helluva lot better. The story's there, just not the technique.

As for my suggestion, read them all. You can never be a Halo fanatic until you read them all. It is one giant great story and it would suck to not be "in the know."

hmm
your pretty much need to read the first one then second then third so your not lost but...

Halo - The Fall of Reach
*is a detailed book about the spartans and there life before the flood and the game, very interesting with great facts

Halo - The Flood
*is also an interesting book giving more details than the game did on this subject, very exciting and action packed

Halo - The First Strike
*like The Fall of Reach this book tells a great deal of info before the game not info about the plot of halo 2.

there all really good books
