Thank you Mr B for sharing your thoughts.
I have been playing HALO for about two years now, and just discovered the intense competition of online combat. The experience is very different from the campaign mode for the variety of situations, and of human reactions to combat stress.
This being said I am a bit disappointed with some players who really bend the rules by using all the hidden features of maps, and keep appearing in locations most appropriate to them. This is something which does not really bring enjoyment to the newcomer. But this is only my opinion.
The other surprise is that in some games like CTF you score for flags, and kills, but not for survival rate, or for cooperative gameplay, in particular for supporting the guys who get the flag. Being a military I have some trouble with this kind of philosophy. I think that the calculation of ranking should take into account performance and cooperative capabilities.
Reading your post it appears that there are BUNGIE servers and other proprietary ones. Unfortunately it is not so easy to make a choice, especially when you have low bandwidth, and I do not know where to look for the Bungie dedicated servers, where you are not banished for playing hard, but fair.
Also there is a big lack in communication in multiplayer. Mostly teasing and loughing at other guys is not really up to the level HALO deserves.
