Subject: So a Covenant Super Carrier comes over Earth tomorrow...

What is Earth's first reaction?

What would the Covenant do?

My thoughts

Governments would attempt to come in contact with the Aliens by sending a ship up to greet them, a Jackal team sneaks on and raids the ship, the United states send another ship and defeat the Jackal raiders. A dropship filled with Brutes are sent and the war begins.

=]

EDIT: Be aware, the Covenant are not to be trifled with both in land and air. Scarab anyone? Elites can pretty much take on a direct barrage of AK-47 rounds and still be able to fight, all it takes for the Covenant is one blast from a Plasma Pistol and our body parts melt away.

In Air Seraphs would destroy any of our aircraft, and you know it, they have such a fast velocity that our missiles wouldn't even catch up to their fighters!

Thinking of our powerful arsenal, we do have Nuclear warheads, but you can't expect for us to use them right away, Nuclear Winter anyone? We would both die, that would be a failsafe plan if all is lost, if it even worked if any of them reached the Super Carrier as their point defense lasers would obliterate them before they even exited atmosphere.

Be aware, a Super Carrier can carry over 10 million ground forces including vehicles, they would do the same tactic they did with Reach, take over a large area and cloak it, the battle would then begin on the ground while the Seraphs and Super Carrier rain hell from above, we would hold them, but not for long.

EDIT 2: Just to clarify anything, this is the Covenant prior to the Great Schism, including all species.

Grunts
Jackals
Skirmishers(Maybe?)
Buggers
Brutes
Elites
Hunters
Engineers

And you believe the Covenant are real?

We EMP there assault carriers shields, then nuke it.

simple.

Do you realize how big that ship is? Over 27Km long, it takes 3 MAC rounds to burst it's shields, then another 3 to burst through the armor, If a simple EMP would have worked, we would have done that, and Nuclear weapons? That is nothing, MAC round stations are much stronger yet it takes a few shots to bring them down. Even a TSAR wouldn't do much good.

Call Iran. Have them send every nuke they have into the air. Even a Super Carrier couldn't withstand that many nukes.

AFK: Away from Kontroller. Don't do it or you'll get the living crap smacked out of you by the Banhammer. If you disagree with any of this, you are just bad at Mortal Kombat.

Knowing the Covies, they'd send more than just one ship. Also, they'd just glass the planet once they knew it was devoid of any Forerunner "Relics". All the nukes in the world couldn't stop the entire Covenant armada (Who's laughing now Iran?)there number's shall darken the sky's themself. So you can only do one other thing once the option to fight has been exhausted.

....You offer them cake.

Me? I'll just do the simple thing (Puts gun to head and pulls the trigger).

If you havn't noticed in halo games, the navy arn't the smartest and half the technology in the game is outdated by our own modern day times.

A couple of our own modern day jets could probably easily take down a frigate lolololol. so yes I do beleive our modern day military could give a assault carrier a good run provided they came to ground and didn't just glass us first.

Seraphs would easily take them down, and you know it, shielding would prove that.

and Here is something, Assault carrier? That ship is huge, right? Well this is a Super carrier, compared to it, the Assault Carrier being at the bottom left corner.

Super Carrier

That's huge if you ask me, a nuclear weapon would barely weaken the shielding of a Assault Carrier, and you believe it would affect such a massive ship? 7 projector ports, along with thousands of Point defense laser turrets, the Nukes wouldn't even reach the shields...

One Super Carrier would be all it takes to take down Earth, hell the Covenant sent one along with 5 corvettes and they pretty much put Reach through hell.

Yeah, about that....how could one massive super carrier slip by Reach's orbital defenses? I mean the only reason why it was able to cloak because of the Spire's and the UNSC could have detected the ship exiting out of slipspace before it had a chance to land planet side and become cloaked. Interesting.....

You do have a point though.

If you cannot lead by example , intimidate.

Ok here's the plan:
1. Recruit extremists
2.Give then planes
3.Pack nukes inside
4.Send toward ship
5.??????????????

Think about it people. If the UNSC couldnt defeat the covenant 500 years in the future I severely doubt we could now. Maybe we should pollute our athmosphere so much it stops the certain glassing :). BTW I agree frigates are pretty -blam!- but the armor is 2 metres of titanium A, you would have to melt it so jets probably couldnt take down a frigate...

If a Convenant Super carrier appeared in orbit tomorrow, 4th Feb 2011 we would have three options. Becomes slaves, be glassed or risk our own destruction in destroying them.

You see, I do not doubt we have the combined firepower to blow a Super carrier out of orbit. The largest nuclear powers could, under the correct circumstances launch >30,000 nuclear ICBMs at the carrier. No amount of point-defense is going to stop them all.

We also have the ability to stop them on the ground. For all the covenants technology and strategic and technological advantages, we have the upper hand, knowing our terrain, having the tactical advantage, being able to think outside the box and being on the defensive.

However, attacking covenant, and mounting a sucsessful defense would probably leave Earth mostly uninhabitable and plunge us into a dark age. Not to mention the ferral Elites we'd have running about after we nuke their carrier into dust, and the threat of more ships coming to wipe us out.

If it came to a ground war, we could definitely give the Covenant a run for their money, as a single assault cruiser houses a significant number of troops, the combined military forces of our planet would be sufficient to counteract them. In addition, while the Covenant are technologically superior, we have the advantage of home field, plus we are more tactical in our combat.

If the Covenant cruiser was to stay in orbit, we would be effectively screwed, as the total number of ICBM's is (thankfully) pitiful, and a cruiser has enough point defences to destroy all of them before they were capable of even exiting our atmosphere before destroying the launch sites with the energy projectors.

If they were to enter our atmosphere (a tactically unsound option), an all out nuclear attack would be tantamount to global suicide, as the fallout from such a huge number of weapons would likely kill all life on the planet. For a nuclear strike to be effective, the cruisers shields would need to be lowered to allow internal detonation which would shield a lot from the fallout and the internal structure would effectively magnify the force of the blasts, likely tearing the whole ship to pieces.

While a lot of our units are superior to Covenant, allowing us to go toe to toe for most engagements, we have nothing comparable to their space-faring ships giving them an undeniable combat advantage.

yes and yes we could probaly hurt or take out a covie super cruiser a covie fleet that comes after wards? no...in all combined forces it would overwelm us

Also from the halo books a covie crusier could slipspace jump withen 1 km to 1 km away so possibly hiding ships in a bundle that looks like just one large ships or to evade fire where the unsc had to slipspace jump 1000 or more lightyears away or something(not sure about the light years part but it was far away) so the covie super cruiser could jump to about 4 or 10 kms away thus delocking the nukes and making them fly off into space thus useing zero pint defence to take them out(remote det you say? but there no were nearby anymore that could do bad damage also in space it is kinda hard to explode without oxygen...space ships can explode because of inboard air and many other explosive matierals)
plus would humanity fully join together in the state we are in now? maby we probaly go to war with eachother over who does what and who fires first and who contacts them so yeah we would be kinda screwed..

I believe that after some negotiation and some trickery on our part the nuclear-capable governments would mount a joint strike on the covenant, and local (national) forces would work alone to defend their own borders while maintaining a temporary seize-fire with all other nations until the threat is dealt with.

Also, if we were glassed (which IMHO only consists of glassing urban/military/government centres) the covies would get bored and go home, leaving the survivors to, well do just that. Survive in a new stone age.

  • 02.03.2011 5:12 AM PDT

attempt contact, no contact, or they would try to convert us, not happening, war, nukes launched, nuclear winter, next covie ship comes, glassed. end of story.
