Recently I've been trying to up my FPS in Halo. From what I hear, my type of rig should be able to run Halo decently, but it really doesn't. So I bring the question to you guys. Does anyone know how I might be able to get Halo to run better on this system?

Motherboard: Not quite sure... Standard for the eMachines T2885 model
Processor: Intel Celeron 2.8GHz
RAM: 2x 512MB PC2700 166MHz DDR-SDRAM
Video Card: PNY nVidia GeForce 5200 128MB, overclocked to 270/450
OS: Windows XP Home SP2

yea my computer is almost the same it should run halo great. How much FPS are you trying to go up to? I get around 40 in small maps and 70 in large maps which isnt the best and not the worst. but what do exactly do you mean by "it doesnt"? is your only problem the FPS is low? even if your FPS is low i found out that puting it on VSYNC kinda helps. wouldnt turning down some of the settings to medium or low help? and last could it be lag your mistaking this for which i highly doubt.

Stupid parents let their stupid children play games that are rated M when they should be playing Big Birds Spelling Adventures

Also the AR is actually good in CQB now and no longer a glorified baseball bat.

The one thing I notice is that the video card is a piece of crap.
No offense, but 5200s are the worst Gefore FX card out there.

I get around 30 FPS in small maps and 20 in large ones.

On top of that, the middle of Timberland gives me around 10 FPS.

I get these FPS regardless of my visual setup, so I get about the same FPS with everything turned up as I do with -useff and everything low or off.

Here is your problem dude. I have an eMachines T3256 desktop with an athlon xp3200+ and 1 gig of ram and a geforce 6800 ultra, and I can run Halo at highest settings. The problem is that most motherboards on eMachine computers arent very good. Mine has a slow agp port, so the card cant go at its finest. If you have a geforce 4 built on to the computer and you added the 5200 to a PCI port, you might as well get rid of the new card. Before I got my 6800 AGP i had a 5500 PCI, and my built in card ran at least 2x as well. Also, since you have a celeron processor you are being held back. Celerons arent meant for games, and even though it may have a fast clock speed it is probably nowhere near as good as a P4 or a Athlon XP of equivalent speeds. Plus AMD processors are better at games anyways. So if all else fails and your built in card isnt better, get more RAM, and if that doesnt solve it you might as well overclock the card. I suggest getting coolbits, and then on the overclock menu of the card choose "find optimal frequencies". Make sure you are altering the 3d performance, not the 2d standard. I hope my info helped you.

Note- also make sure you have the latest drivers, or download the geforce drivers from omegadrivers.net Those drivers are really good, and run better on bad motherboards in my opinion.
