In addition to the gameplay changes I would like to see, as I said on 1-2 pages back, I think these are couple more points Saber/343 should look into.
(I am playing through Halo CE right now, and try to look at it without my fanboy goggles on ;))
* Level design:
Make the levels a bit more interesting at some parts. For instance: PoA and Truth and Reconciliation. Both are mostly made up out of the same hallways over and over and over and over and over again. Same goes for most Forerunner interior such as in The Library and the indoor parts of Silent Cartographer.
Give these parts a full visual overhaul, add some variation in them etc.
* Amount of enemies/friendly NPCs.
Add more enemies and friendlies on some parts of the levels. For instance: in Truth and Reconciliation we board a Covenant Cruiser...you would expect there to be TONS of Covenant, instead: the resistance is actually very light.
Add to that: Cortana speaks about "the entire suriving crew" being captured. Then we reach the prison cells, and we get a whopping 5 dudes! Increase this number in the remake.
Same kind of applies to Silent Cartographer, when storming the beach....with just 8 fellas. I know it was impressive display of AI 10 years ago, but I mean: double the amount of AI at that part of the level. Give us more Covies to fight and a few more Marines. Because right now: that whole epic part of the level is played through in less than a minute...
But not always add more Marines! After all: the UNSC is scattered all over Halo and is made up out of small pockets of resistance. So no huge amounts of Marines, but sometimes a few more wouldn't hurt.
* Less jokes.
Seriously...I mean; I like the humor in Halo but CE takes it to extremes sometimes. While the Covenant is slaughtering the PoA crew when they board it, litterally EVERY Covie soldier killed gets a smartassed line tossed at him...Its ok, but do it occasionally; not all the time! Instead: have Marines and PoA crew seem/act more scared.
* Audio.
I understand the audio "will be the same" in the remake (if the rumours are true!) but PLEASE let them redo some of the voice overs. Have the same voice actors come in and deliver their lines a bit better. Foehammer for instance is terrible on especially the Halo level. It just seems so out of place and unnatural.
* Weapons.
Bring the weapons on par with what we come to expect from Halo. I don't know if you guys have noticed but the Needler is pretty much useless for instance, because there is a delay before the needlers explode of a few seconds (easily 2-3 times as long as in H3/Reach).
Same goes for grenades! If I throw a Plasma Grenade, I don't want to have to wait for nearly 10 seconds before it explodes! I could just as well have cleared the area with my gun then...
And the area of effect for the regular Grenades is a bit too extreme too maybe.
Also: bring down the amount of ammo for the AR for instance. Lets face it: 600 rounds is rediculous!
* Physics.
Improve physics! Boxes that can't be moved, dead bodies that stick to the ground etc etc, that is not acceptable in 2011.
The further I get in the game, the more I am convinced the base of this game is still as solid as it was then. However: the individual parts that make up the gameplay should have some small revisions. Truely: if this Remake would be a 100% perfect copy of the original, the game wouldn't be that much fun. We all know the challenges, which makes the game easy. We don't have hallway-shooters anymore these days, which Halo CE is for a big part unfortunatly. etc etc.
Make some revisions, change some things here and there and bring it to the level you would expect in 2011.
