Well, I think it's minor, but you may disagree.

I want Mass PMing to be a bannable offense. Ever since joining bnet, I've encountered this phenomenon. I used to do it myself, actually. But, I've since learned the error of my ways. So, as most of you know, I am strictly against mass PMing. It is considered spam by most people, so it should be punishable in the same fashion as forum spam.

Your thoughts?

Naw, it's more fun to accumulate a large block list, but I'm sure others will agree with you.

  • 12.11.2005 3:44 PM PDT

What would be the point?

You'd be banned from the forum, but you'd still be able to send PMs.

Just use your handy block tool.

I never thought of that.

I suppose it isn't that logical. I suppose I'm just a little annoyed at the moment.

It’s technically an old school unofficial rule that was never really put on the books. Way back when-when groups were chapters and they were the real bulk of Bungie.net, mass messaging was the most annoying way to get people into your chapter that was an infant that wouldn’t go anywhere despite how many members you had.

Eventually SketchFactor posted over at Chapter Founders that spamming people was offensive and indeed against the rules. As I see it now, I consider mass messaging a form of harassment, but Goweb does make a valid point… we can ban an entire group, but they’ll still be able to send out messages. For the time being the only option you really have is to block the annoying users. If I had my way, Moderators would be able to put groups that use that tactic on a probation period or could eventually be closed for spamming people… but that’s not my field of play.

It is the soldier, not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who has given us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier, not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. And it is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves the flag, whose coffin is draped in the flag that allows the protester to burn the flag.Father Dennis Edward O'Brien, USMC

Once i recive an invite to a group via PM thats the only one i get

But if someone keeps sending them to you then press the block user button.

i have about 8 people on my list

It would be useful if our tools didn't just cover the forum.

For example, it'd be great if we coud ban people from using the PM system (and have all their messages disappear) or ban people from being able to use the 7th Column at all (for people who are problematic to lots of groups).

But alas, we can't.

Methinks these should be posted in the feedback thread..... *goes and adds these ideas*

-Quaere verum.

Got a report? Use the report tool or send a pm.
Chairleg Productions presents: 'Console Wars' and 'Games as Art?' (also on Halo Waypoint).

It's a bit like the "instant joining links to chapters in signatures or posts" rule which was never introduced untill quite sometime past. That's fixed now, so who knows? Perhaps Achronos or someone will think of an ingenious way to prevent it.

I never really did get the reason behind why you can be banned from the forums, but you’re still aloud to participate in the 7th Column. I think it might have to do as to how the sites are linked but oh well.

I agree. I dislike how certain members who are bored after being banned from the forums can also raise havoc in groups.

Quite simply. You just have one PM that you copy and paste in a PM to pretty much everybody you see post on the forums. General example would be something like this:

Hello. I've seen you are a good, active member on the regular forums. I would like to invite you to join (insert Chapter name). It is an awesome chapter with a lot of active members! Please join now!

  • 12.11.2005 4:45 PM PDT

Im sending a msg to every group member right now . To ask them to help the community and be active. Is that against rules?

It's contentious.

Some people don't appreciate it. Plus you have the news section.

  • 12.11.2005 4:48 PM PDT

Well im sending it to the members because i think they forgot my group exists

Yeah. It's not quite as bad as mass PMing, though, as they willfully joined your group.

  • 12.11.2005 4:51 PM PDT

Yea , i dont mass PM to get members . I have asked 2 people to join my group before.

I totally agree. Some people are just plain bad, and shouldn't be allowed to actively participate at all. If anybody, the Master Forum Ninjas should at least be granted such power. Of course, such powers would probably be quite difficult to implement...

Then again Yoozel, if you had your way, alcohol would be brought to you by your new Bungie.net slaves, and you would ban people just to hear them cry.
