Although the MA5B is the best AR, out of a choice between the MA5C and MA37...the MA5C is BETTER.
Let me explain.
The MA37 rounds are weaker then the MA5C, therefore it takes more rounds to kill the enemy, it also shoots slower to then the MA5C. This may be effective when burst firing in mid range, but its not very effective in close quarter combat, where the AR is used most.
The ONLY small advantage that the MA37 has over the MA5C is that it is slightly more accurate when firing in bursts. BUT, that difference really isn't all that great when the rounds you are using are weaker then the MA5C.
I had an easier time killing covenant with the MA5C (although i would prefer my trusty MA5B) then i did with the MA37, even though both had a 32 round mag (not clip).
I don't want to think how the MA37 would preform against the flood, *shudders*.
The MA37 and MA5C have the same caliber rounds used, 7.62 AP rounds. What makes the MA5C more damage? I'm talking as if it came down to it in a real life scenario and not game.
The only way I can see the MA5C doing more damage is the barrel length. From Halopedia
This can easily be explained through ballistics. It is likely that the MA37 has a shorter barrel then the M392, and thus the bullet is unable to use all of the propellant gases from the cartridge before exiting the barrel. This results in a lower velocity round/less power and decreased accuracy both of which seem to be trademarks of the MA37. This is the same reason why the modern day M16A4 has better accuracy, ballistics and wound characteristics than the M4 carbine despite using the same round. This decrease in power could also be explained by the location of the gas piston that drains the gases from the barrel to operate the cycling of the bolt mechanism.
