Subject: Why is there no dual-wielding in Reach?

I liked that dual wielding was removed in Reach but that the occasional Elite would have dual PRs. It was a nice touch, well played.

I hate the Elites for dual wielding. It reminded me that I could be sending out twice the amount of bullets I shoot into them when single wielding.

Canon wise? Mark V armor couldn't support two weapons on the hud at once.

So the helmet was keeping him from dual wielding? Wish there was that Firefight option to play without your helmet.

As do I.

how about blind?

Thats what he was doing, firing from the hip, no helmet, no shields just his clear view.

I know.

Bip. Bap. Bam. Welcome to Reach.

Spartan-III's were supposedly not strong enough to handle two weapons at once. Although I personally disagree with this completely, that's Bungie's scientific explanation.

Well, if it was one that was SUPER heavy, then they're right.

Lol no, Bungie's reason (or the canonical reason) is that the armor didn't have the software to track both weapons. I'd bet most people could pick up two weapons (not aim for s**t though), so I'm certain a Spartan of any kind could easily.

So, Master Chief was a Spartan III? Cause he couldn't duel-wield in Halo CE.

The reason there is no duel-wielding is because the helm's software couldn't track two weapons at once.

Yet in Reach it shows the two weapons you have.

I don't really miss the duel-weilding that much but I do like it when I have duel-weild sub machine guns.

Hey by the way what happed to that small SMG?

But it doesn't track the reticles of both of them. Just one at a time.

Still, it should've been able to. The UNSC must've had the software available.

SMGs are not that heavy. Most aren't much more than 5 or 6 pounds. A person of normal strength could dual wield, although not aim for crap. Accuracy is more important than sheer firepower any way, except for suppression.

I am a penguin. Every day I boogie on down to the water, and eat fish. Once, while fishing in the deepest depths, I saw great Cthulhu... And he said to me "Shine, to thine own self be true. They can't tell you what to do once you've gone guru." Also, I should tell you, "slide".

Gameplay: Weapons balancing.

Fiction (my own theory): The "actuators" in the older (Mk. V/ Mk V[B]) weren't advanced enough to properly handle in countering the recoil of more than one weapon at a time. That feature showed up in the Mk. VI.

  • 02.24.2011 11:38 PM PDT

so why could not spartans with the mark VI helmet or elites dual wield, elites doesnt even use both hands when using a small weapon.

Ignoring the fact that the Mk. VI helm doesn't make the rest of the Mk. V [B] armor act like the Mk. VI, there's still the gameplay/ balancing factor.

I don't know why either. But all in all, Reach was still a good game.

Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.

this pretty much, the ending cutscene showed spartans had the skill and strength necessary to duel wield, but the computer just couldn't handle the tracking of two weapons at once.

as a serious answer to that, its because we as players in the games hardly get to use a fraction of the armors capabilities, if we did, we might as well be playing with a keyboard... or multiple.

Dual wielding was a universal secret.
So was the location of Earth.
Guess what happened to both of those secrets.
