Subject: is microsoft going to turn halo into star wars ?

Wake me when the jews are gone.

milking it so much as star wars

"If you treat people right, they will treat you right - ninety percent of the time."
-Franklin D. Roosevelt

"No soldier should be honored for doing what is expected."
-John-117

Define "milking".

As long as we don't to the point of annual games, meaning a new FPS each year, I welcome more Halo content.

Frank O'connor stated it will end over the next 6 years.

So no.

I know ):

But, like all things that come, no matter how good and beloved, all things must go.

For those who appreciated LOST's ending, I hope its as emotional as that.

Well it's better to let it die than to force it on for the next 30 years.

You're probably right.

Don't worry, you're still your mom's favorite Bnet member.

Reach is the Phantom Menace of Halo.

Think about it.

Which is why it'll be so sad.

Just think, if George Lucas walked up and said "I'm ending Star Wars", all the fans will be pissed because they've grown accustomed to having around it for 30+ years. Star Wars is a bunch of smaller, sub stories that composes its universe. Its gotten routine to have Star Wars around coming out with new stories that unrelate to each other. There is no one story to focus on, which is why I've started to hate it so much. All the other stories with Sith and such make the Star Wars movies--the ones that had for so long captivativated their audiences--ultimately pointless. Its lost its magic to the flat and boring characters and time-line of the prequels.

Halo, on the other hand, is one, consistent story where everything relates to one another. Its a testimony to the incredible storytelling minds at Bungie and the authors to have crafted a world so intricately devoloped, so mysterious, so thoughful, and in a way that would make the greatest symbologists cower.

See, it'll be sad to see Halo end because of the singularly consistent story that the fans love so much. Its the kind of story like this that keeps you up at night.

In the end, after its all said and done, the way the Halo universe sucks its audience right in with its realism and attention-to-detail will give the fans a bitter sweet feeling.

Its the feeling that we have been with the literally countless characters that we've all grown to truly know and love the whole step of the way, and to finally see them go after what will by then amount to 16 years of amazing storytelling...well it brings out a sense of accomplishment in the audience.

They feel they helped shape the universe we all love because they were there from the start picking apart the slightest detail and analyzing them with their friends. Halo has a certain way with the audience I've rarely seen in any story before. It captivates them so much so you become engrossed in the story almost completely.

So, like LOST, Halo will end, and it has an end date. Like LOST, it'll be eternally sad to see it go, but we all know that it's passing was inevitable from the very start, if we didn't know what it'd mean to us.

So here's to the next, here's to the last, six years of the Halo series.

yeah you probaly righy but halo already have his phanton menace and clone wars

  • 02.07.2011 3:36 PM PDT

Yes it is spelt like that on purpose.

Microsoft knows that Halo is a money printing machine, and they intend to use it. As long as it stays in the hands of well deserving developers and good titles keep coming, I won't mind too much. They have to be good though, no release every year, a good game takes time.

That being said I am also very much looking foward to the next Bungie project and can't wait to see what new stuff they have up their sleves.

@accordingto343

Your one stop shop for all of 343's fabulous errors and ridiculous notions in the Halo lore.

Star Wars may be milked, but it's great milk.

  • 02.07.2011 4:23 PM PDT

It might go, but I'm sure one day in will make a return for a little while.

  • 02.07.2011 7:10 PM PDT

Star Wars is everywhere, It'll take years for Halo to catch up, not that I want Halo to go that way.

As long as Halo doesn't go annual, and the movie eventually comes out and doesn't suck, then I'm fine.

I didn't know what emotion I was supposed to feel. It was happy in a way, but sad in a way, and I was sad to see it go, but I loved the way it ended. God damn that's a good show.

  • 02.07.2011 7:24 PM PDT

Marine: "Got a new contact. Unknown Classification!"
Lord Hood: "If it isn't one of ours, take it out."
MC: "This is bus 117, can anyone hear me? Over."
Lord Hood: "Isolate that signal. Master Chief, you mind telling me you're doing at that school?"
MC: "Sir... picking up these kids."

Halo will not die so long as there is money to be made.

It is this generation's Star Wars. This is a bold claim to make, but think about it.

When Star Wars first came out. They were instant classics, people wanted in on the money, everyone was on board. Same goes for Halo, look at where it's gone to, and I guarantee you can find a Star Wars counterpart:

Video Games
Animated movies
Comics
Novels
Board Game spin offs
Table Top strategy Games
Trading Cards
Clothing
Accessories (Pins, License plates, etc.)
Mega Blocks (Though Star Wars is Lego)
Encyclopedias
Art Books
Action Figures
Calendars
Toy guns
RC cars
Collectibles (Like busts, Helmets, Statues, etc)
Iconic music
News Coverage
Fan Zealots

All that's missing is a Live Action film (even though we have plenty of Live Action trailers) and that's it.

Capitalism folks. Everyone wants to be on board with Halo, it's a huge money maker, as is Star Wars.

Before you tell me:

"Halo doesn't have nearly as many things as Star Wars, like cereal boxes and what not"

Of course it doesn't, Star Wars is at least... what... 40 years old? Or close to it (it's been a long time) Of course there's more stuff for Star Wars, that's expected, Halo's only been around for 10 years, what do you want it to do?

BUT HALO IS NOT STAR WARS,

and that's the difference. Star Wars has random aliens everywhere, which implies tons of planets and back story, plus it cares less about explaining how everything works, which allows for more creative room. Star Wars is much more expansive and loose than Halo.

Halo will never REPLACE Star Wars for what Star Wars is, but it will rob the hype of Science Fiction and imagination from Star Wars and continue to grow in appeal as it's production continues to be top notch.

It will only die when your money dies, until then it is unstoppable.

Hmm. Two popular titles, wrapped up with a disappointing third installment, followed by a series of prequels that fails to capture the feeling of the originals...

Seems an apt comparison to me. Wake me when the Halo equivalent of KOTOR is released.

  • 02.07.2011 7:43 PM PDT

I believe so. We will get this remake in 2011 and Halo 4 probably in 2012. It does not mean the quality will suffer but apparently we are going to get a Halo entry every year now.

We have gotten 4 Halo titles since 2007 so it should be no surprise.

  • 02.07.2011 8:25 PM PDT

Cpt. Cutter, for those who don't get the referance.

And does anyone else hope that they'll focus on more genres thatn just FPS? And I know that the chances of it are .01%, but I'd love a Halo Wars 2.

  • 02.07.2011 8:58 PM PDT

I'm sure it won't be milked as heavily as Star Wars, and it looks like 343 actually cares about the Canon. Halo will end, it has to. But it needs to end right.

If you're including Halo Wars, I don't think that really counts considering that it was made by a differant company. I'll give you the fact tha Bungie did work closely with Ensemble in making it, but all the same, they didn't "make" the game.
