Not only that, but perhaps Huciv is a descendant of a non-American car company. Maybe its ancestor is Toyota?

It would seem that the average person may not even know that they can communicate with the AI.

Hmm. I would've thought that having the ability to talk to the AI would benefit the town/city. Maybe there's some disadvantage to such a thing?

Maybe. Keep in mind the UNSC would most likely be stalking the public making sure they were all "staying in line" so to speak. Could you imagine the riots if the public found out the city had an AI watching all of them 24/7?

TurboGen manufactured vehicles like the Spade and Warthog. Huciv produced the Genet.

I certainly woke up on the braindead side of the bed this morning. A valid point indeed, that.

Unless... the emergency services number in whatever country and city you were in took you directly to your city's AI itself? Thereby creating the illusion that the AI wasn't always watching you, and keeping the public unaware. Or something.

Hm... maybe. But I would see it more like this: The civilian calls the police, and unbeknownst to the civilian, the AI is listening in.

For example, someone calls the police and reports a robbery. The civilian says the robbers are in a Spade heading West on the Tsavo Highway. The AI, unknown to the civilian, would be listening in. The AI would then begin shutting down traffic on the Tsavo Highway and redirecting all local law enforcement to the site.

Actually I think it was Mike saying that, and it was Kinsler who said he overlooked them.

Yeah, and quite healthily. Sergeant Johnson was 86 when he died. Granted, much of that was in cryo sleep so biologically he was only like 50, but still. Yeah, 50 years old and he was still fighting in the marines. The average life expectancy was 142 in 2552. Today it's 80. So it's not hard to believe that an 80 year old with the body of a 50 year old could serve.

Once the Covenant war began, the UNSC enacted a law that every boy must serve in the military. The only exceptions were blindness, deafness, and serious mental or physical defects.

About the AI's helping civilians, remember in Contact Harvest when they described the AI "Mack" as everyones favorite uncle, always there offering helpful friendly advice? (I think there was an example about fixing a broken jotun)

Robotics has greatly improved. The cargo freighters are mostly automated and only ships with human passengers have captains. Alot of the militia recruits were overwieght because machines did all of the hard labor.

Some one said something about the fall of Mars, I havn't heard any thing about this would someone care to enlighten me?

Edit:

We also know that most cars are driven by auto pilot, (possibly with the AI's direction?)

Many UNSC officers smoke those Sweet Williams cigars, so tobacco and presumably other recreational drugs are still popular.

And we still have night clubs, strip clubs and booze. Lots and lots of booze.

Read Halo: Uprising. Mars had a UNSC garrison present during the invasion of Earth and among the personnel was Colonel Ackerson. He was captured by the Covenant after Mars fell to Brute forces. The false information he gave during his interrogation led to the Covenant diverting part of their forces to Cleavland on a wild goose chase.

I have a few official books that describe the life of an average human on Earth during the war.
Could you name the books please?

I severely doubt he can considering that all books with sections pertaining to civilian life are extremely brief, brief enough that it doesn't include the information he's touting around. I've read everything created thus far with the exception of the Halo Encyclopedia and thus far the majority of things posted in the Universe forum tends to be either grossly exaggerated and mere assumption or simply flat out. While I can believe that the earlier simple facts like life expectancy and average heights could be in the encyclopedia, subsequent postings place doubt on his source. In this thread for example his statements about the Nova Bombs and Mars not being attacked fall under such categories within this thread.

You know it does nothing. It did nothing in Halo 3-1, you just did not notice it. Go on Halo 3 and rapid fire at a wall and the bullets get more random. Don't try to deny it. I've shot real guns, I should know.

This thread interests me, go on.

Am I supposed to write something funny here?

I don't think it's possible for civilians not to know that war is going badly, 'cause ONI can't (or they could, but I doubt they would) silence all the refugees and veterans.

You'd be surprised. ONI was capable of quite a lot. Going from colony to colony in 2552 is like going from the Earth to the moon today (With the exception of military forces). Who really goes there?

Inter-colonial civilian talk was non-existent. I'm sure it would be perfectly possible for ONI to cover up everything. They had propaganda officials altering photos, changing stories and paying people off since the war began.

But could they really silence everyone?

Good point. Anyone who was let go by the UNSC was probably paid off by ONI to keep their mouths shut. Then again, what if someone doesn't keep their mouths shut or lets it slip in a drunken haze?

ONI would probably play it off like "Oh, he was drunk he has no idea what he's talking about". Of course, there would be those who don't believe ONI and believe the drunk man said the truth, those people would probably be looked at like we look at conspiracy theorists today.

However if someone decided to deny ONI's payments and go vocal, they'd probably die in a "tragic accident". Then ONI would pump the public with more propaganda to convince them he was crazy.
