It's no secret that Halo 2 was rushed. This doesn't make it a "bad" game, but think about it, it didn't have the same amount of time a normal game does, it lacked polish in several areas, even the developer limited edition commentary and "making of" sequences made it appear rushed.

There were many plans for Halo 2 that were not completed for the game, this isn't to say that all things cut should be put back in, even what was put in wasn't perfected. Halo 2 was one of the more glitch filled games for the Xbox (seriously, flying with the sword if you're in a Warthog and aim at a Banshee? Don't believe me, try it. I've done it, I'm sure it's on youtube as well) where as Halo CE is a classic.

I'll be honest that CE is more difficult for me to play now do to it's graphical limitations, controls, and less things I can do (feels a bit restraining to go back to it) so I welcome a DIRECT remake of graphic improvements, control improvements, etc (and I guess the warthog can blow up) but Halo 2 NEEDS it the most. The cutscenes had issues, the audio would occasionally sound... off..., the level boundaries weren't even boundaries, many things shown off were not put in, he battle for Earth did not meet the hype, the amount of destruction was extremely limited, Gravemind's appearance intersected with itself unnaturally, the Prophet of Regret's boss animations were pathetic (not that I could do better), many scripted movements felt blocky and fake, the AI was okayish even though driving is NOT okay. If you take the game apart you'll even find certain sections in which things were started but not finished, things intended for the game.

Again Halo 2 wasn't necessarily a bad game so far as story or fun goes, but it felt incomplete and rushed from opening to close.

If they're remaking Halo CE then I think Halo 2 deserves the justice of also being remade. I think it NEEDS it. I think it's NEEDED it before Halo 3 came out. People who bought it for multiplayer may not understand what I'm trying to say about the campaign, but when you watch the limited edition DVD extras and listen to all of this stuff that was going to be but never was, as well as just the opinions of the developers about time restraints and the lack of "fun" in the game, it's clear it wasn't completed.

It needs to be. Thoughts?

Halo 2 was rushed. It has problems, and some of the animations don't look very good anymore, but I disagree with you that it needs to be remade.

In fact, I would even argue that Halo 2 was, and still is, the best Halo campaign. The campaign almost feels like a movie with the way it opened up the inner workings of the Covenant and introduced the Gravemind. The missions are hugely varied, and it is the game where the Brutes live up to their name the best. The flood is all consuming, and the characters all fit into their niches much better than the later games (Truth in Halo 2 vs. Truth in Halo 3). Also, the lack of mission barriers was not a problem. The vacations added a large amount of replay value to the game.

That said, it would be awesome to play the forerunner tank mission...

OK here it is , yes you are absouletly right BUT....... i would like to point out that not only the campign i would highly highly recomend to bungie , to make the top 5 maps of each halo ....yes i mean do a big ass dlc or atleast some dlc like say Halo ce

i do not know alot of hal;o 2 maps since they were alot ill let the public see wich maps of halo 2 were the best so they can atleast have an idea

Completely agreed on!

I don't need a remade H2 campaign (yet at least), but I would love it if the rumoured remake would feature Halo CE's campaign and Halo 2's multiplayer.

I do want its multiplayer back, its campaign is fine as it is...

You don't feel that because the story was that good it deserves an update?

I agree that Halo 2 was the more "true" Halo game, especially when looking at Truth and the Brutes, as well as looking into the Covenant perspective, in fact that's why I believe it needs a remake.

When compared to Halo 3, Halo 2 is way more true and essential to the story. It could be seen as the 2nd act, the meat of a production. I don't feel it's fair Halo 3 has the better cinematic animations, art, fluency, etc over Halo 2. More time was put into 3, then 2, even though as you've said you believe 2 has the better story.

I agree it's a better story, but because it's great, I believe it deserves a remake. I don't think it's fair games like Halo 3 and Reach out do Halo 2, when Halo 2 really is the meat and potatoes of the Halo trilogy.

I mean, I understand don't fix what isn't broken, it just feels wrong as a big fan of Halo 2.

You make a compelling argument, but I am terrified of what might happen if it is remade by a different studio. (I have the same fears about the studio remaking CE) It would be awesome to see Halo 2 in HD, with less glitches and oddities, but if done incorrectly it could be broken beyond repair.

I would also do what they did with Halo CE and wait until 10 years after the original release, then it will make more sense to remake it. Or they could wait until 10 years after Halo 3 and remake the whole trilogy.

True... another studio could ruin it. I mean, we've seen what other studios do to it. Knowing me, I'd buy it anyway... I'm a bit of a Halo zealot... well sort of. But I wouldn't "enjoy" it if they ruined it.

If that's the case though then I guess it'll really depend on this CE remake.

If the CE remake is true to the series making the experience better than the original, then I'd fully welcome a Halo 2 remake. If not... well then I suppose it's best it's not remade.

I hope the CE team 343 is watching over (as well as 343 in general) knows that this is their first impression as far as games go, and if they ruin this they'll destroy our dependence in them. This is essentially their moment to say "Have no fear, see what we can do." and if what they can do is not enough, then I suppose the remake of 2 wouldn't be worth it

  • 02.08.2011 8:51 AM PDT

I would rather see the maps from online be remade some how. While H2 was rushed i feel like, Its still easily the best game Bungie has made, in my opinion atleast. Now down the road, a possible remake, sure, but I wouldn't expect to see it, or even want to see it, until sometime in the late future.

  • 02.08.2011 9:10 AM PDT

Talk about rushed. The Brutes were the prime example of this, even Bungie said so. They were better in Halo 3 with their power armour. I would of been nice to have that cutscene were the Arbiter beats up a bunch of Brutes but due to time they had to cut it. The one thing I would want the remake for both Halo CE and 2 would be for the Elites to stand at their original 8'6" again before Bungie screwed up the size due to multiplayer balancing. That would make Halo for me again.

I am pretty much the same, I will be mad that they ruined it while I am playing through it repeatedly.

Oddly enough, I think the lack of polish was Halo 2's charm. Think about it: when Bungie had all the time to polish Halo 3 and Reach, they put in invisible walls, made grenade jumping less effective, took out all of the fun multiplayer glitches, etc. All those things made Halo 2 have it's charm.

Also, I don't support remaking any of your past games since you should go on to new projects instead of living off past successes.

Really when you think about it, nearly everything that was an accident in every Halo game are the things that are generally praised the most.

This is very true in some sense. I did very much enjoy exploring and finding secrets/glitches. I mean, if they remade it I know those would go away... I don't know I guess it depends on what you value you more. I could give away all of those secrets and etc. for a more polished campaign, but that's just me.

The main reason why I would like to see it remade is the revamping of the multiplayer. I do miss playing Halo 2 online very much and I would love to play Halo CE online.

No new games, catching up with the world, and filling it with the name of SpazDragon, the dragon with a spas-12.

Things they could build in the remake that were cut(if it becomes real):

Flood Juggernaut
Arctic Warthog
Drinol
Covenant ship(level)
Forerunner Tank(level)
Miranda Keys' Betrayal(however dark...)
Forerunner Keyship(level)
Engineer
[Female Sangheili ;)]
Etc.

A lot of that stuff would have been awesome.

God! Make it so as it were real!!!

Multiplayer - Halo 2>Halo 3>Halo C.E.
Just about every thing I post is my opinion and nothing more. Be subjective. Respect other's opinions. Try to understand other's point of view.

I think, multi player wise, Halo 2 was by far the best game. Bungie really got it right with that one. They didn't try to reinvent the wheel but just made the wheel better.

I understand remaking Hale C.E. for the 10th anniversary but I would love for Halo 2 to be remade with the reach engine and net code.

If this were done I would probably play the "new" Halo 2 until the cord was pulled.

  • 02.08.2011 9:33 PM PDT

i think they should wait at least until 2014, and MAYBE they should remake it. Halo 2 was "rushed" because Bungie made each level by different people, and when they put them together, they didn't flow well. As a result, they had to remake the whole campaign in 8 months, which is astonishing considering how good the campaign is. However, one must admit that in terms of level design it could get frustrating, and they could have been fixed if they had had more time. However, the story and the storytelling is unique in many FPSs today, hover the way the story, as great as it is, was told horribly. Once again, given, say, an extra 6 months, the game would have had less glitches, most of the cut levels, and better storytelling. If they fix those problems in the remake, with the help of Bungie for the cut levels, it would be a fantastic game.
