Subject: Who, or what, would wear a Halo?

A tiny idea from the question "who, or what, would wear a Halo", which was thrown out by Eric Trautmann HERE.

Yes, I know what the majority of you are thinking: "Not this crap again!" Don't worry, though. This is just an observation, a small one at that, of one of the MANY possible "treats" that can be found in this unusual dictionary I own.

In section A of The Dictionary of Angels/Fallen Angels there is, of course, a list of interesting angels. While the Dictionary of Angels contains thousand of Angels, which are each accompanied by their individual descriptions, this initial section (350 - 400 angels) list and categorizes angels of extreme importance to the spiritual and physical worlds. The Angel of Death would be a good example of a familiar angel listed in this section. One of the interesting things found in this list of “important” angels is that there’s only one angel, which I've ever noticed, who is described as wearing a Halo... The Angel of Time.

The Angel of Time - "The angel of time stands between earth and heaven, clothed in a white robe, with wings of flame and a golden halo around his head... one foot on land, the other on the sea, behind him the sun rising... on his brow the sign of eternity and life: the circle."

Take from that what you wish. I don't intend to give my twisted interpretation on the possible influences of The Dictionary of Angels/Fallen Angels on the Halo universe for a good while. However, it may pertain to THIS.

You make to many theories :P

Yes, I do like to think outside the realm of beer and girls, but this isn't a theory... more of an observation;)

Yeah, thought provoking stuff, as usual. Angel of Time, huh? Is Bungie getting philosophical with us?

I do have a personal theory of my own, too. You have to much spare time, Eagle 117.

:)

(In all seriousness, though, it's good to see posts like yours that actually show evidence of an intelligent thought process. Something that seems to be in short supply these days.)

There are two groups of people in the world - those that hope, and those that wish. The first group hopes that nothing bad will happen. The second group wishes that they are there when it does. Which one are you?

Uhm dude..i dont really think that this is a theory, a Halo is one of the many shapes that fit the category Circle.Because Halo on the Game Halo is a Halo it is called Halo...unless you dont think it is that easy...

Oh -blam!-..

Where do I say this thread is a theory? As a matter of fact, I made it a point to show I'm just making an observation;)

By the way, this isn't a random guess about a "circle". Eric Trautmann pointed us, the halo community, in this direction. If you don't know what I'm talking about, do a search at HBO for him, or just click on the link provided at the beginning of the thread.

Ah, I didn't read the link you provided carefully enough. My mistake.
In an attempt to dig myself out of my pit of ignorance, I'll contribute
to your observation.

Your interpretation of the Halo story is great, and very realistic. The
Angel of Time makes perfect sense, and supports your thoughts
extremely well.
I'm curious to know deep you think these time "warps" go however.
For example, "are the 101,217 local years long or short? Is
the rotation around Threshold a year, or is the rotation around the
sun a year?" It is very possible that the gas giant can count as
a star, because there are some gas giants classified as brown
dwarfs. There has been some speculation on the possibility of
Halo getting heat from the gas giant, and maybe even it's power.

On the other hand, what if a year is a full rotation around the sun?
From what I can tell, the sun in Halo is far away, and would make
for a local year even longer than Earth. Maybe 9 times as long. . .
(an epic battle 900,000 years ago) I'm no astrologist, but it made
for an interesting thought. I think you addressed this in one of your
earlier theories, but I don't recall exactly what you said about it.

Time warping is not a new Bungie theme. In fact, I started a
thread not to long ago partially on the subject in Marathon. Here's a
link if you're interested.

In THIS interview, Eric Nylund tells us that Halo's yearly cycle is computed from how long it takes a local planet to to make a complete revolution around it's local star.

As for the length of the yearly cycle on Halo, I'm not quite sure. On one hand, the size of the sun, when viewed from the surface of Halo, looks close to the size of Earth's sun. On the other hand, the MC experiences all the extreams of climate while on Halo... as in an extreamly quick yearly cycle. On that note, I really have no clue:)

I looked at your theory on Marathon, but I've never played it. So, I really don't know what to say???

Thanks,
-Eagle 117
