They are coloured like that to make it easier for players to distinguish them. Obviously from a realistic standpoint it doesn't make sense to have a special team like Noble to be brightly coloured but it's a video game and Bungie's target audience for this game wasn't exactly for the people who care about realism.

That being said they could have at least made them wear dark colours.

Maybe your TV is brighter, or your video options for Reach is higher. Cause, on my TV, none of Noble team have bright colored armor.

Maybe they're not exactly 'bright' but they stand out pretty well when compared to the other drab and dark colours in the environments in the game. The colours most of the team have aren't suited to match their environment. I've never seen anyone in the army where yellow in the forest or blue in a city environment. Not to mention Jorge wearing yellow to a covenant cruiser.

And you had Master Chief, in a kinda bright green armor, going through snowy terrain. You had him walking through shiny grey hallways with that same armor. You had him going through purple ship hallways.

The armor colors don't truly stand out to me. If you want stand out go to those examples, which is Master Chief's armor.

You really expect any UNSC personnel to have purple camo on hand for those times when they board Covenant vessels?

Alright you got me. Green is still better than yellow and blue though lol

Ever bothered by how Johnson died multiple times in Halo 1 and still managed to make it into the sequel?

Or how Captain Keyes really only exists so someone could be Captain Exposition?

Or the silliness of "Wort Wort Wort"?

Or how all of the Assault Rifles were destroyed with the Pillar of Autumn until new ones were made for Halo 3 (same goes for the silver pistols)?

Or how 500+ years into the future, humanity is still using projectile-firing weapons?

tl;dr I try to ignore reality.

No, but yellow is the opposite colour to purple. Any other colour would be better.

There was only one canon Johnson. Try to pick your suspensions of disbelief better.

You don't know how the future will unfold so saying how using projectile weapons 500+ years into the future doesn't make sense isn't that great of a point.

People in the 80s thought we'd have hover boards and be able to predict the weather perfectly by this point in time, if you go by Back the Future II, but they were obviously wrong.

In 1968 people thought we would have people living up in space stations as we do on Earth and have a moon base if you go by 2001 A space Odyssey, but again they were wrong. The events of the future is something no one should assume.

This is something called "Taking Halo Too Seriously".

The point of this forum is to discuss the canonical elements of the games, i.e. nit picking details. If you think that this is stupid, or a waste of time, then you can discuss the big picture of armor lock in the reach forum. Please don't just come here to tell us that we are wasting our time without contributing to the conversation.

By the way, I remember threads on almost all of the topics you have mentioned, including several lengthy ones on the projectile weapons.

On Topic: I completely agree with the OP, Bungie said that they were trying to make Halo: Reach a more emotional, deeper game with things like civilians dying and a scarier covenant to make you feel the horror of the Covenant destroying a planet. The colors of NOBLE completely distract from the effect, since they are so ridiculous. The blue and teal coloring makes NOBLE seem like a joke, not some elite unit.
I would love to see someone show me one thing in today's military that is on the front line (ground only!) that is painted bright, ore even light blue.

Oh yeah, like a couple stripes are going to give Jun away, I can't even see them, so that should tell ya something.

Small things can give a sniper away, especially since they lay still for hours on end, trying to blend into their surroundings. Blue stripes are a big giveaway when an improperly made ghillie suit can mean being discovered.

Things like this, and the lack of enthusiasm of the trooper in Winter Contingency saying that the Covenant are on Reach completely detract from the quality of the storytelling.

Nothing is true but perception. Everything is permitted but a lie.

The Spartan 1 Project

Depending on the spartans fighting style, they would wear appropriate colors.

Since Noble is less stelathy than other spartan teams they can have more vibrant colors.

In the game, the spartans are never hiding, so the subdued colors would only take away.

Thats one arguement.
Another is that if they were all green, they would be pretty dull.

I burst out laughing when I heard that line. It's really hard to be that bad at acting. But lets not talk about the acting. That can be saved for another thread.

permit me to say one more thing about the acting.

I dont exactly remember the lines but:
Jun: "Boss, i see some troopers under attack about (distance) from you"
Trooper: "We're under attack, i repeat, 4 charlie 6 over."

worst line in the game.

EDIT: No, you're right, I didn't contribute. Sorry.

I'm a bit conflicted:

In some ways, I think Bungie made Noble Team colorful to distinguish them and make them stand out, let the armor show off a little of each member's personality. Pretty typical way of showing that "these people are important to the story." It kind of reminds me of Star Wars: Republic Commando, how your squadmates had different unique armor -- all nonessential characters used standard-issue equipment, and you generally did not care for those people; there was nothing special about them.

In other ways, though, I felt that the colors seemed a bit out-of-place. While I didn't play through the game thinking "omg Jorge your flamboyant coloring is ruining this game", I did at least get the feeling that Noble Team is a little too colorful, and it detracted from the emotional impact of the game's plot. It gave me the impression that if Bungie had tweaked a few things here and there, it would have made for a darker game that would have... I don't know how to say it. Better? More emotional? Improved the mood?

Not much to really say, you're better off finding out for yourself.

That said, I respect Bungie and the Halo community very much and take their games in deeply. I think the campaign and the history behind each Spartan is more fun to do than easily getting an Unfriggenbelievable in a tank.

Respect the UNSC, respect the Helljumpers, respect the Spartans.
And please, keep it clean.

Jun's works perfectly.
Carter has dark colors; His armor seems to work okay.
Emile blends in with shadows.
Noble Six has gray armor, he's fine.
Jorge couldn't remain stealthy if his life depended on it.
Kat's stupid.

I went back and looked at screen shots of Jun, the stripes in question are an incredibly dark blue, they're almost black in the ones I saw.

Things like Jun's supposed "stand out stripes" only distract from the story if you are incredibly nit-picky, yes this is a forum for discussing Halo and its story, but there's a big difference between being excessively nitpicky and analyzing the story.

Maybe I am being nit picky, and Jun was the best of the team colors wise, but he still has blue stripes visible here, which wouldn't be too much of a problem, except the rest of NOBLE was even more ridiculous.

Yeah, those are dark enough to not even really be noticed, well no more so than any of Jun's black accents.
I still stand by my original statement that Kat's is the only really ridiculously colored one, unless of course one makes their Six outrageously colored, but I don't really care, it doesn't matter to me.

  • 02.12.2011 8:35 PM PDT

ONi doesn't automatically mean "Stealth Team". Spartans are used on anything from stealth missions to full out assaults, so it doesn't matter too much.

It's curious that some people are calling Noble Team primarily a stealth team. If anything they're the complete opposite. They're a public unit (far more so than the S-IIs after they were made public) integrated with normal troops to fight the Covenant and Insurrectionists on the front lines with everyone else.

Trussingdoor is pretty kewl. He fires lasers and doesn't afraid of anything.

I agree. Also, why have bulkier armor on the right arm, but the left only small armor? Emile's right handed, the left side should have the bulky armor.

Yeah, I remember seeing screenshots of kat and carter with the rest of the team back when we didn't know much and wondering WTF was their excuse for being blue. I mean, really. The Rust and Dark purple colors are less noticeable. And very under utilized.

Actually, Jorge is olive - it's his original MK IV armor after all. Only the collar/grenadier with the shield generator is orange.

  • 02.12.2011 10:37 PM PDT

I couldn't see that. It would be weird.
