on a side note for all you returning thread helpers, my account was banned from the waypoint forums for having an innapropriate username. go figure. point is, is that we are not going to get very far with this idea on Bungie.net. they already have given the DLC up to 343, and they have no power over it. we must now contact 343. if you have an account on the waypoint forums, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD OF THIS THREAD'S EXHISTANCE. post it over there. thanks.

To all forum members, this is looking really good so far, many people
are voting yes! Despite this, we need your replies to keep
this thread alive
Please leave comments as well as voting. Thanks

A shout out to all community members

If anyone has any knowledge about how to contact 343 Industries,
please either post the link or PM me. I'm looking for preferably an
email address or some sort of email support page like
this.
Finally, please save this thread as it is vital to the survival of
it.

I would really like Bungie or 343 Industries to notice this, for this
is a good idea, according to the voters as well as moi.

Step 1: Flaming Topic
Step 2: COMRADES, WE WILL NOW TAKE OVER THE TOP FORUM TOPICS AND KICK THE RECENTLY LOCKED THREAD OUT OF THE 10TH SPOT! KEEP SAVING, AND ONWARDS! (war-cry from massive following army of voters.)

This thread is a slightly long read, TL;DR at the bottom.

Note to moderators: I'm sorry for bumping but I am doing it for the
votes of the Halo community, without any bumping, this thread would
not of had so many votes, it also seems that the majority of players
are agreeing with my proposal for this new map. If the community
didn't like this idea I would of given up a while ago but the
popularity of my idea is driving me to keep this thread alive. Please
do not lock or slow down this threads progress, so long as it stays
within the forum rules.

Index
Part 1) Postmortem; it's a long read throughout the whole BWU but just
scroll down to the first picture you see, this image should force you
to come back to this thread.
Part 2) Idea/reasons in support - You don't have to read all of these
but, they may convince you otherwise if you don't like the idea
initially.
That is all I request you to read, I will star (*) the points
in which reading becomes more optional.

The rest is more directed towards Bungie and 343 Industries.

Thanks and enjoy the read!

I come to you all on a very late time to be asking for Bungie and 343
Industries to include such things into the game, but I'll ask that all
those who are interested in DLC and Invasion may want to read this.
Everyone else is welcome to read also because this is a very good
practical idea the Bungie may have forgotten.

It was almost a year ago that I read the BWU
Postmortem

If you Didn't read through the entire thing, I'll sum it up for you.
Halo 3 design leads ect talked about their original concept of what
their early intentions were for the map we know and love, Sandtrap
prior to Halo 3s release. In the BWU, they displayed an image of a map
which was set up into sections; an outside perimeter, and the inner
part of the map which we currently know as Sandtrap.

The idea was to build the "Ultimate Warthog map" designed for a
single-purpose, defence-attack gametype directed only for the map
itself. Unfortunately, due to multiple reasons, it was scaled down to
what we now call Sandtrap.

I'm now going to explain to you the main reasons why I can
assure both the fans, Bungie and 343 Industries that putting this map
into a DLC pack for Reach will be an excellent, popular and absolutely
necessary idea.

1) In the link I provided you (If you didn't see it,
here it
is), from the designs and layout of the map, this original concept of
the map was clearly designed for the gametype Invasion. The goal was
to have the attacking team push through the beachhead and make their
way into the pit and then infiltrate the enemy base. But,
unfortunately, they mentioned in the BWU that they had to abandon the
idea due to the gametype not being included in Halo 3. Well, I'm here
to tell you that Invasion is in Reach, and fairly safe to say
that the idea was spawned from Bungies early intentions way back in
the making of Halo 3.

2) This would be a perfect opportunity to create another
Invasion based map like Boneyard and add it into a DLC pack to further
stimulate the gametypes success.

3) Bungie had already done quite a bit of work in designing the map
already, so, unless they threw out the old level designs, they could
probably make it in less time than the other maps in the DLC pack,
this also allows for more testing time and less chance of bugs going
live with the DLC.

4) They talked about the map being very vehicle focussed (which Reach
currently lacks). Reach's Invasion to me seems very balanced out and
would be perfect for this kind of map. Other things added into the
game such as Armour Abilities would work perfectly, possibly make the
gameplay even better than originally designed! Armour Lock for example, although you may hate it for close quarters death-defying noobs, will actually serve it's true purpose here. any less-skilled or unaware vehicle drivers will fall prey to this unstoppable ability. but then again, you dont have to splatter them, do you? i think i see balance where there currently is not.

The point is, this is a flawless idea; not some stupid fanboys idea
and wish-list, but, something that Bungie has designed themselves!
This would be a perfect fit for DLC, providing yet another Invasion
map to play on, as well as promoting the kind of gameplay Bungie has
so freely expressed support over.

My question is: Should the original concept of Sandtrap be put into Halo: Reach?

************************************************************* ***
Okay, this part of the thread is the idea part, all of the
common/reasonable suggestions for the map I will put here.

1) I have seen Choppers
be request multiple times. It would be great to put them in the map
since the map is so closely designed for older vehicles than new. I am
still to page 7 getting more requests for choppers; this man says it
best:

Now, this is my position on choppers. I think many people would just
take it as a taunt if they didn't put it in, because in my opinion,
the multiple choppers were the best part of the map. Choppers can
destroy banshees, but not easily, they can be killed by a single foot
soldier, but can also slaughter easily if the driver is good, and they
can splatter vehicles. In my opinion, of course, i would say that the
chopper needed a ton of skill to be good, but if the driver IS good,
it can be one of the best vehicles in the game because of its unique
aspects.

2) New object sets. In the noble map pack we got the same template for
tempest as we got in Forgeworld. It is a request that I think many
would agree on, to receive a new set of objects for us to play around
with.

3) They could block off the rest of Sandtrap and only use the normal
Halo 3 Sandtrap for BTB and TS. Just think back to the good old times
on that map, simply amazing!

4) I know this is a stretch but literally everyone has been
suggesting this. They want
Elephants
(Real link here).
Here's a theory on how it could work posted by a member:
I just imagined if they put the elephant in and you could actually use
it to serve a purpose. You could use it to attack during one of the
invasion phases and use it as a mobile spawn point.

5)This is from another member. It's related once again to sectioning
off the map for other gametype usage, which is altogether a great
idea:
The beach area could be closed off in more symmetric gametypes. Team
slayer, possibly?

6. weapon drop pods/destroyed vehicles as objects. a crashed longsword like the one on tempest, or a pelican like the one on valhalla in halo 3, or even better, a phantom like sandtraps would make for great infection games/map themes.

7. in order to make this a forgeworld map, they could do the same thing they did with forgeworld, and make lets say all the sandstone objects in the inner pit of the map FORGEABLE, and then have the invasion version as a map, and then have a separate version on the default selection as a blank canvas, exactly like the forgeworld maps we know now.

8. i have recently made tandum with another successful thread idea, which suggests the implementation of pelicans and phantoms (and friends) into the new forgeworld i am suggesting. this would strictly only be for customs, and being such would only require that 343i takes the current campaign flyable pelicans/phantoms, and add an aiming crosshair to it when piloted, and maybe whip up the passenger controlls and functions to actual multiplayer shape.
here is the thread that most of you may already know
pelicans/phantoms for customs

Dear Bungie Studios and 343 Industries:

sure why not

This is an idea that i completely support, i loved that map and a
better version would only be better.

sure, idea sounds great

Yes

Sounds...ok.

I can totally see this happening.

Yes.

I love this Idea.

When I first found out how Invasion would work, I remembered that
article and thought how good that version of Sandtrap would be for it.

good idea OP.
props on the research, going that far back.

This is an excellent thread. I agree 100% and hope your idea comes to
fruitition.

Really good idea

My head is beginning to explode this is such a good idea.

really good idea

I want this map

I would love this as both a forge map and a vehicle map!

They really need to bring it back, something along the lines of "Forge
Desert" would be amazing.

awesome idea
BUNGIE please make it

I love this idea C'mon Bungie DO IT!

okay, its a good idea

Wait, the sandtrap from that update forever ago? I would love that

this would be sweet.

Hot topic and top topic!

This sounds like a fun idea. I would play it.

bumping for hoped success!!!

Sounds interesting

This is an excellent idea

This I would definitely pay 10 bucks for

i remember reading that update and being dissapointed it was never
fully explored.

we definitely need something like this

this would be amazing

Great Idea!

i just answered yes. the more the better...

I'd be all for it,

Yeah this sounds good. :D

So when is this petition going to be established?

(Needs map, speechless)

awesomely epically hoping they will listen and answer

I like how everybody is giving good ideas and feedback. I have yet to
see flaming or hate. I like the way this is going, we may have a
successful thread on our hands.

And many, many more to come, just post your thoughts!

TL;DR Bungie designed Sandtrap as a vehicle driven Invasion map, Halo
3 didn't have Invasion so the map got cut, now on Reach we have
Invasion and would love to have the old concept of the map a reality
on Reach as DLC.
SPECIAL THANKS TO:

BOUNCYMURDERER

ATTENTION EVERYONE SINCE I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT 343 STUDIOS IS NOW IN CHARGE OF REACH DLC I HAVE POSTED THIS SAME THREAD OVER TO THEIR PAGE PLEASE GO THERE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE THIS THREAD TO BE MORE SUCCESSFUL.

ADDING ON TO THE IDEA/SUGGESTION SECTION

11. sandtrap has smooth curves and adaptable driving terrain, thats something you cant build in forge world.

12. this is my own idea, but i think it would be widely agreed upon by the rest of the voters, what if bungie put the target locator into the forge budget for this map? think about it: the map has no roof or overhang, and it is a flat, open desert where anything is a target. for example, it could be balanced out by just firing one missile (same as all the rest just only one of them), capable of wiping out pockets of enemies trying to take the objective in invasion. still overpowered? try making that missile weaker so it doesnt get you an overkill, but gives the enemies some bad shell-shock for your teammates to move in and mop-up.

13. this next idea has been dearly wanted since halo 3's release. troop hogs for custom games. i can safely assume it would take bungie very little time to put these already created vehicles into a DLC map. custom games would get a massive boost out of this, thus increasing the overall replay value of reach.

im not even talking about the sandtrap we know to be now.

their old design before halo 3 even came out was completely different, and would suit Halo Reach gameplay perfectly.

yeah, i can see revenants working very well on this map also, considering the fight makes it into the inner part of the map...

Now, after reading your post and the BWU, I would love this idea! To me, reach is lacking vehicles fights. There are not two Banshees or two Falcons on any map that is in MM and once one team has their vehicle and kills the other teams vehicles, that's it, vehicle combat over. For me and I'm sure quiet a few other players, Reach could do with some new vehicle maps as it simply lacks them. Halo 3's sandtrap was really fun as it was an objective map and a vehicle map.

I don't know about that. I could dominate with the chopper but the revenant is a slightly different story. As for the prowler, yes, the revenant is an equal match i guess.

"They let me pick... did I ever tell you that? Choose whichever Spartan I wanted. You know me. I did my research. Watched as you became the soldier we needed you to be. Like the others you were strong and swift and brave, a natural leader. But you had something they didn't. Something no one saw but me. Can you guess? Luck."
—Cortana to John-117

I can totally see this happening.

For the sake of the map I would change it so you have the map with in the wall, then you have an area all around the wall. Not just at one small section.

Phase 1. Spartans have to break through the forerunner wall to gain access to the inners of the forerunner fortress.(Assault)(Spartans would have 1 or 2 warthogs off the start, while the elites have 1 or 2 ghosts and some vehicle killing weapon.)

Phase 2. Spartans have to blow a hole in the area outside of the inner fortress(where the flag is on the picture of the whole map.) to get in.(Spartans get Armor or Falcon)

Phase 3. Spartans have to secure the inner fortress by capturing a territory at the top of a forerunner tower. The tower would have one way in from the ground level, but some areas are weak and can be destroyed by a tank shell or a rocket which allows the falcon to fly more guys into the mid/top of the tower. The tower would be a circular tower with tight hallways that keep circling up until they reach the top. (Spartans would get Armor and Falcon, Elites would get 1 or 2 Banshees, 1 or 2 Plasma launchers all of which would spawn on the top of the tower which would make it hard to do an air drop) (Note there would be a good amount of cover at the top of the tower for the elites to use.)
