This is kind of a mini-human interest idea I’ve had floating around my head for awhile. So I’ve decided to take a few steps and see where it leads to. The question is simple, why do you continually come back to Bungie.net? There are users who have been here for years and others only months, but what really keeps you coming back to Bungie.net?

Can it be as simple as you enjoy their games so you join to look at the news? Are you only concerned about your stats? Or could you care less about the games and stats, you’re here simply for the community?

There’s one thing about the internet that everyone knows deep inside of them. It’s secretly the place you get to be who you want to be despite what people say about you in school or mock you about in life. Is that what is so addicting about joining an actual community? I’m interesting in scratching the surface on this question and possibly take it a few steps further. So if you want to participate feel free to, I’m interested and all ears and you are not obligated to vote in the poll, but if you can base your reasoning off of it, feel free too as well.

That and just about everything else on the list.

It's complicated.

Part of it is because I like some of the community, and enjoy making friends on Bungie.net.

Part of it is because I am interested in hearing about Bungie.

Part of it is because I am bored.

Part of it is because I feel an obligation. I said I would try my best to help the community, and I feel obligated to follow up on that.

So I probably won't be leaving for a while.

Well, first I used to come here for Halo1 and then later Halo 2. Ever since my Xbox got messed up it has been all about the community. There was an incident where I just wanted to leave all this behind but for some reason I started to crave for it more. The community here on Bungie.net is just amazing. Almost all of the members are cool and know how to have a conversation. Hopefully members that I have met in the past and the cool new people I am meeting now will stick around for years. I have set a goal, that goal is to get to the five year mark. I like to set goals, because I know I can ALWAYS accomplish them. After that five year mark, who knows what I will do, but you will be seeing me here for atleast four more years.

Realistically, I could say that this is simply a hobby that I spend free time doing for my own pleasure. However...it's more than that. Most of the regulars here are intelligent. I don't waste my time speaking to people in real life who are barely coherent and can only manage to string a couple sentences together with proper grammar. Same goes for the internet. I enjoy the intelligent discussions we have here and I enjoy the personalities that this forum and a few others I visit have. Whether they be "false" or made-up personas, I could care less. Certain people in real life are "jerks". Life is like that. And if I want to come here to find some more intelligent people to talk to on a topic that we all love (Halo and Bungie) then so be it.

There is a reason I am user ID 1 and my account creation date is before this site came online.

My reasons are much like others, I'm interested in hearing what people have to say, and catch whatever Bungie news that comes down the pipeline. Plus, more recently, I have started to enjoy talking to certain people on B.net, with the mods and a few other members in specific. I'm usually at work when I'm on B.net, and it gives me something to break up the boredom. Especially going into Zanzibar and looking at all the flaming threads. Ah....good times...good times. Plus, I more recently got involved with Body Politic, so that is fun too. All in all, I like the Bungie community, and I like being a part of it.

Edit: Has anyone other then me played the PC game "7th Guest"? And find the title of this thread eerily spooky?

Don't give me that Wegg, I watch TV, I know you have racoons. I'VE SEEN THEM, OK? Can't believe you'd keep them from me. What is this, a conspiracy? Keep the racoons from the Brits? Look, the independence thing was years ago, OK? GET OVER IT. I want to see a bloody racoon, and you're gonna make it happen.

I originally came to Bungie.net for one reason... Halo 2. I quickly became intrigued in the games Bungie had made before the Halo series. I come here anymore for the people I have met on these forums. The verity of people I have met is interesting, and I enjoy talking with most of them.

The reason I visit every friday is the update...

The reason I visit every once in a while is for my stats and games...

The reasons I visit every day are my friends. I've made some very genuine friends here on b.net, and I really do enjoy their internet company. Let me clarify that, my internet friends are internet friends to be sure, but there is a honest connection with my clanmates. Being a friend to someone across the ether of the internet is special in its way... my clan is always there for me, but they are there on my time, and only when I check in on the site.

There's a certain freedom there... I've never had one of my awesome-ass internet friends get mad at me for not posting in a long time. They may be concerned as to where I've been, but no one is ever mad. These ethernet friendships are as good as the energy you put into them, so there is a lot of potential without any huge expectations.

The psychology of internet friendships is such an interesting subject, too. For instance, the overlords of my clan met in real life several months ago. They had all met each other over bungie.net, they fell into this clan, and formed friendships over Live and bungie.net. Reportedly (as I was not there, but read about it later in our group) they laughed and talked all night as if they had been friends in real life for years and years. As if they were all friends in the same town, and this was just another night of brews, chicken wings, and friendship.

That's pretty special. Strangers meeting each other for the first time as long time friends. I'm not positive this would happen as easily on another message board (I'm sure Live has a lot to do with it, participating in a "competitive" e-sport night after night) so I'm stuck on Bungie.net. It's such a fun place to be, although I am looking forward to the search function... heh...

No matter what you do in life, you will disappoint someone.
No matter what you say, you will offend someone.
No matter what you think, someone will think you're an idiot.

Find and eliminate these people.

I come here because I have nothing else to do. When I say nothing, I really mean nothing, it's this or just sit on a couch staring at the walls.

Did you mean stalking? Or are you thinking about putting TGP in some thigh-high fishnet stockings? And not to keep splitting hairs, but wouldn't you not post if you didn't want him knowing?

Several reasons. All are good, i believe.

1) First and foremost, my fanfic. Especially now, because every day there are new people going on and asking questions, talking, and my thread really is great. Lots of fun people on it, and i can safely say that my life is much better because of those people. That and the book i've been working on for over a year starting 2 days ago. Plus i post new chapters up pretty much every week...although i'm running out of things to write. Scary .

2) The community. I've found that there are alot of people here that are very much worth talking to, unlike in the real world where there are alot of -blam!-s. true, there are some here, but you can't go around with an -blam!- filter or complain to modz about them in the real world. On top of that, I've made alot of friends here, many of them whom i talk to daily here or on aim or msn.

3) Groups. Simply put, one of the main things i do on bnet is go around to the groups i'm in and try to contribute something intelligent to them in any way i can. Some of them, like body politic or the silver screen, are great places to do so. Others, like the Official Fanfic Group, are great because it gets people to post their fanfic, which is awesome.

4) Its fun. simple as that. I wouldn't come by if i complained at it like that video fo that guy playing halo and yelling at the game because he sucked. Plus i love reading the responses that some individuals give, and the mods. you guys are either constantly drunk and on crack, and if i'm not playing dd cause i don't even know where you are, its a win-win situation for everyone.

I came to bungie.net initially because of Myth, Halo, and Marathon (in that order). I keep coming back because of the community and the group sites and the slim hope that despite all the worthless posts that have flooded the Underground as of late, it is still possible to help introduce new members to the Oldschool Bungie games. Through the community and groups like The Myth Jumpers, W'rkncacnter Club, and many others I have been able to meet lots of cool people who enjoy computer and video games with great stories as much as I do.

You people have just sent my sides into orbit. A bunch of MLG try hards sucking the dick of some supposed pro half the thread hasn't even heard of. Classic.

Pretty much every reason on the poll. I have made a few friends the community that I enjoy discussing different ideas with such as Mabian.

The Frozen Minority - The most infamous clan borne from the Seventh Column.

To be honest I dont know why. Probably habit really. I have been here for two years and can't imagine being anywhere else.

It can't be the communtiy becuase... well, just look at the stuff we see in Zanzibar.

It can't be my stats becuase a) I suck and b) I am not a rank kind of guy.

So habit really. This is my online 'home' to be honest.
