Vengeance only leads to an ongoing cycle of hatred.
I had an interesting conversation with my friend about the Halo universe. It laster a long while and was refreshing to discuss the universe with somebody. He told me this forum used to be full of conversations like the one we had. I'm sure there still are, but not as much.
Anyway, don't you think Bungie could have made the story a lot deeper? They really simplified it in the games. Then, you read the books and the other wealth of knowledge we find with words and it's truly amazing. I think the games have good stories, but they could have been a lot deeper.
For example: The schism within the Covnenant. They could have really went in-depth and focused on the Elite's breaking away from the Covenant. Also, they could have made Mendicant Bias and the Gravemind more prominent.
By this I mean they could have made the story between Mendicant Bias and the Gravemind more then just text in the terminals. They could have had some sort of...what's the word...viewing of their story. I doubt many people bothered to read the terminals, anyhow.
They could have done the same with Reach. In fact, they could have made Reach the most in-depth. They could've brought out more behind the Spartans. You're defending their planet. They could have made flashbacks to the Spartan-II's (or III's, I guess) childhood. Instead of fighting to save just any old planet they should have put more meaning behind it. Say, in a flashback you see the building where the Spartans learned and bonded. Then, during the campaign you have to defend that building because the Covenant want something with it.
They also should have made the combat more global. It seemed like you were fighting on such a small scale. It didn't feel like you were fighitng for the planet or for anything important.
Also, it would've been nice to know more about every day life. About the civilians that lived on Reach. Or, for the civilians that lived in New Mombasa in Halo 2. They demostrate pretty good in ODST. But, throughout you don't really know who you are defending on a personal level. Yes, you're fighting for humanity, but who are the people who make up humanity? What do they like to do? Where do they go to eat? etc...
I'm not trying to make this a negative thread. Or a hate thread. I love Halo and the universe. I'm just stating how Bungie could have made it a lot more deeper. Because, in reality, the haloverse is very vast and deep. I realize it's hard to put these things into games. It's hard to tell the story at hand and also go more in-depth with other things.
Anyhow, please discuss.
