Dude, pick up Halo Cryptum! It delves into the forerunner backtsory. Including Medicant Bias.
I did. Sadly, I find it boring. As much as I love the Halo universe, it just lacks excitment. I've read up to Chapter 21. Everything is very slow moving. I guess it gets better as time goes on.
I'm all for opinions and stuff but what?
Cryptum, in my opinion, is the best novel yet. It blows Nylund's stuff out the water. Cryptum is a lot like Ghosts of Onyx, only it's Ghosts of Onyx on fire, going 130 miles per hour through a hospital zone, being chased by helicopters and ninjas. And, the ninjas are all on fire, too.
In all seriousness, I really appreciated the more historical way Greg Bear presented the story. Reading battle scene after battle scene in some of the other novels gets a little repetitive after a while, every page of Cryptum comes with a new revelation with fantastic description and Bear clearly knows what he's doing.
I understand what you're saying, but from what I've read so far, there hasn't been much going on. They search Charum Hakkor and the other planet. See that the prisoner escaped and are now talking with another Promethean. I'm not saying it needs to have battle scene after battle scene, but they need something exciting. No offense, but traveling from place to place isn't too exciting for me.
Its just different compared to the other ones, that's all. Its about mystery and intrigue rather then war. (though two battles do take place).
If you're the kinda guy who likes more lore and story, Cryptum really should be perfect for you.
It's not as deep as Mass Effect, which is not as deep as star trek, which is not as deep as star wars (which I'm watching right now).
Star Wars has a bunch of small unrelated stories that aren't in themselves not deep. Its just a large universe, but not realy a deep one (or consistant)
Same with Trek.
Mass Effect......is not that deep. At all. Its pretty generic, really.
When ME starts pulling religious, moral and ethical symbolism and themes that would make Shakespear -blam!- himself, then Mass Effect will be as deep as Halo. As it stands, its just a fun, flashy universe.
