While looking through the conceptual art for Reach, I found THIS.
Take a look at the helmet in the middle in the bottom row. It looks a little like our mystery helmet...
Awesome find. This changes a few things. The first being that this helmet was conceived in pre-production. The second being that Bungie must know what it is, so we shouldn't count out any statement from them.
Is the helmet on the bottom right a forerunner helmet? That looks so badass. And a helmet with a green visor, and another with a red one. Nice find.
I think I can name all the helmets. 1st: Mk. V 2nd:Scout, with a wider visor (must have been edited for the game.) 3rd: EVA with some purple visor. 4th: FAFNIR (what we've been calling the mystery helmet. 5th: Forerunner with a black visor, most badass helmet I've ever seen, I want that helmet.
You know, nothing indicates that it's a Forerunner helmet. It only has an extreme angled visor, which is more likely for a special operations application. I don't see how helmets compatible with Mark V armor would be based on Forerunner tech when Mark VI isn't.
It's all irrelevant though, at least until we see it in a picture hidden some where.
Haven't you seen Halo Legends? It almost looks like a helmet one of the forerunners were wearing except this version seems to be converted to marine tech. No, ARMY TECH. There is only one group of Marines in Reach, on PoA. All of Noble team serve with the UNSC Army. But yeah, it does have some heavy forunner influences in it's design. Hopefully that little gem is somewhere on-disc, too.
