Are we there yet?

From what I've read, both in this thread and others, I personally think that CA probably have figured a way to get new perms into Reach. I've looked at ALOT of the helmets already in game, unlockable or otherwise, and cannot find any similarities. The closest thing I can think of is GUNGNIR, but the lense is on the wrong side.

And maybe Bungie lied to us. Maybe they CAN put new armors into their games, even though they have stated otherwise. Hell, there have been worse things right?

To any Bungie employees who might be reading this, please investigate the matter. I think I speak for all of us, when I say "We need official clarification."

Remember, if they did add new armor, you would need to update every map, mainmenu, shared, everything. Which would take to long to download.

Just pointing this out.

yea i remember him saying it woudl be like a 9gb title update! when did he take it back so to say?

Says who.

Evil Otto, but he took it back when he saw this new helmet, so it's probably very likely that they'll add new armor.

We have a link to it somewhere in this thread, but I didn't have the intelligence to save it, sorry. If your really curious you can look for it, but trust me, we have all the bases covered on this topic.

I think that by March we'll have all of the clarification we need.

I think we will too. However, I'm going to choose not to think about any new armors until the pack comes out. No need to think about something that may not happen.

Sure there is! It's a great time to speculate like this :) In fact, this thread single-handedly beats every other thread I've read in attitude. Almost everyone here is friendly, and those who come in looking to troll quickly leave. That's a good portion of the reason this thread has lasted this long!

Could we be getting more armor for the new map pack?

I've heard somewhere that they could be possibly making an entire new ranking system higher than Inheritor. But, it's probably just a rumor...

yeah I don't see how this could happen since I really doubt that many people are going to even hit inheritor, and then after that even if they did they aren't going to want to get 5 million credits just to advance one rank

Without Marathon, Halo wouldn't exist.

Ok I will re-post this and add a little extra.

Alright guys, I've modded games and worked with models, it's easy to add things given the right tools and such.
See in the Source engine (this isn't Source but many fps engines work similarly) their are these things called body-Groups.
Those are like those attachments for the helmets, even then helmets themselves.
You can toggle them, mix and match, stuff like that.
It's plain to see that armor perms are in fact, a form of Body-Grouping.

I would assume Halo would have a similar function becuase without Body-Groups, you'd need however many different models to match each and every single armor combination. That's WAY over one-million different models, the amount of space that would take up would be ridiculous, not to mention the time to put together every single combination.

Now editing Body-Groups is a simple process with the right tools and the knowledge (Not on Halo but in Source and any PC game, modding a console game is insanely hard and punishable via ban-hammer), and you can even make separate files that add new ones. So you DON'T need to edit the content already in the game.
With that said, DLC armor is VERY POSSIBLE if the Halo:Reach engine works anything like the source engine.
Body-Groups and models ARE NOT coded, whoever said "it wont work becuase the way it's coded." has his facts utterly wrong.
If you dot believe me I will take a picture of a model's "code" and show you that no human being can read that jumble of digitized mess.

So yeah that's my take on this, I think it's legit, gave some proof, now I'll just click the submit button.

New part:
As for evil-otto, the map encoding is the OLD WAY of doing things, I assure you Reach DOES NOT do that.
Those pictures clearly show a new helmet and possibly a new chest piece, You can't argue with those.

To any bungie member reading this, if that helmet is unlockable through a vidmaster type thing, PLEASE let the vidmasters be harder this time around.

Yes and no for this, I would like new vidmasters, but I would hate to have the helmets linked to them, I would prefer just to get them or have to buy them in the armory

It probably won't be up to Bungie, I bet that this is 343's doing.

I want to see armor that requires credits to buy, but one completely badass set of armor that you need to do some kind of vidmaster achievements to unlock.

Taylor Gang! 420

That is odd it doesn't match any known armor unless it was a visually altered operator.

To understand the similarities between Halo and Source do you need to look at the files?

that a sick helmet but i think its a glitch or some secret cheat

  • 02.20.2011 2:09 PM PDT

The evidence is in the video and the frikkin' picture and still people don't believe it. I'm surprised at how stubborn some people can be.

It's no cheat or glitch, it's the real deal. They put it on waypoint and those people comb every picture to make sure nothing that can spark controversy in there. They wanted people to find that helmet, and start getting pumped about the possibility of new armor.
