Keep in mind I almost never quit, I just hate the fact there are over 6 different bans in the game, kind of leads me to think Bungie just enjoy punishing there fanbase.

more or less proof

he never said to NOT quote him

if he did site your source

It was in a thread that died a long time ago, I would send him a message asking him, but he also said he wouldn't be responding to messages about the subject, but a know a link is somewhere in this thread, why don't you look for it?
PS: This thread has almost hit 6,000 posts, do you seriously think that Bungie would let a thread go this long without debunking it, if there wasn't a distinct possibility of new armor?
please site source..remember when trying to back up a claim you need to site your source..and if you can't dig it up to back up your claim you have no proof

no proof=no truth

near the bottom
yes i looked at otto's post

HOWEVER!!!

in typical bungie fashion nothing is confirmed or denied

and at this point wouldn't the SMART thing to do be to put TRUST in the people who are WELL KNOWN and WELL RESPECTED in the Halo Modding Community (Korn, innergoat, etc..) isntead of relying on the "maybe yes, maybe no" style that bungie is giving you?

you've contradicted yourself, you claimed that Otto never said he wanted people to stop quoting him, then requested a source if he did. now you say you saw this post, making us posting this link unnecessary.

also, no, it wouldn't be smart to put trust into these people, they do not work for Bungie, and as such do not truly know the limits of the Halo: Reach engine, only Bungie, 343, and CA know the full limits.

the update requierd would be SEVERAL GIGABYTES..i don't know how dumb you are but a 9 gigabyte patch is VERY VERY VERY BIG

not everyone can spare 9+gigs ( i only have like 3.1 gigs left on my HDD)

Why would it be 9 GB? After some quick searches, to download Reach to your hard drive, people were saying it would be between 5-7 GB. Why would the update be more than that?

(Legit questions, not trying to troll you or anything. I don't know how game coding works.)

I then summed up what he did and said, which is what every bungie statment that isnt a clear cut yes or no answer

"maybe yes maybe no, but i won't tell even if i walked 10 feet over to the lead programmer and asked him"

but i still stand by my word, the modding community is a less reliable source than Bungie because they did not create the engine for the game

Hey guys, let's talk.

When someone sends me a PM, I try and to the polite thing: respond. Sometimes I know the answer, sometimes you have my best guess (which *can* be wrong), and sometimes, I just can't give a response.

However, any messages sent to you are considered personal. Please don't be taking grabs and sharing my responses, as that turns me into an unofficial spokesman for our company - which I am not.

For now, I'm cooling off on the responses - please don't PM me about questions with the Defiant map pack or what our engine capabilities are. I am by no means an expert on the matter an I don't want anything I say to be construed as official Bungie statements.

cheers,
Otto

God, that took a long frikkin time! I spent the last half hour combing the thread trying to find this and finally found it. It isn't necessarily a link, but please just take my word for it taco.

EDIT: OH YOU HAVE TO BE -BLAMMING!- KIDDING ME!!!!!!!

you would need to overwrite EVERY .map file (the user interface is actaully a .map [ui.map], and the UI contains every menu basically, this means it INCLUDES THE ARMORY

now for the new armor parts you have to remember, there is the BASE helmet, which has a model, a mesh, adn a texture.

these three things are what make the helmet appear as is in game, each file has its OWN size, and those increase reach's overall file size

now keye's face bitmap is 512x512 (lolhuge bitmap)and is actually a pretty big size, and thats a small human face

apply that to a spartan's helmet and the addons for said helmet and any possible armor parts they decide to throw in, those need to be added to the maps so the maps load the armors right...size has increased again

the files become larger and as such the patch becomes larger

also it would cause all forgeworld maps out there at the moment to become obsolete because they wouldn't have the files needed to load the new armors

yes but we've been through the coding, we've seen what it can and can't do, we KNOW how it works...

you have to remember each halo game uses a modified version of the BLAM engine (the halo engine is actually called that) modders like korn have worked with this engine for years, almost as long as bungie, we've taken it apart and done AMAZING things with it (last i checked someone added somewhat working armor abilities to CE's engine, which is NINE YEARS OLD)

bugnie won't give a straight answer because its bungie and the fact they'd lose fans if they told them flat out "hey armor cant be added"

edit: regarding the AAs in combat evolved, they only appear on the maps they are map with, remember the .map system still applies

You do realize this information isn't credible still right? Maybe 343 and CA found a way around the traditional system. Most of this is only how the Halo 3 engine worked, wouldn't it make sense to change it up a bit?

yes and no:

Reach uses BLAM, and reach is still caching its files similar to H:CE-H3 ODST

its no possible to have adddable armor in the blam engine, WITHOUT OVERWRITING ALL .MAP FILES

the next halo game might NOT use the engine (since bungie only signed away Halo, not it's engine)

for the time being you're stuck with how halo game's work...you're free to play a game with DLC armor at any time

fire trail is in there...no one remembers juggernaut from the beta or is willing to?

IIRC the flame streaks are produced because of OS, try using classic slayer on a test map you made with an over shield power up in the middle

OK hold on, wait just a minute. Let's go back to the picture, the one of the new helmet. It obviously hasn't been photoshopped. And obviously 343 had to have something to do with it. (I'm not using any quotations, just common logic.) 343 is a fairly new company and is about to work on their first solo project (Halo 4). They have a very shaky fanbase and people don't necessarily trust them. Power over Reach is slowly being transferred from Bungie to 343 and this is their time to prove themselves. This pic has got a lot of gamers asking questions and I don't think they'd let something like this slide without immediately saying "There will be no new armor." A controversy like this could launch them to instant video game stardom, or plummet them back to the beginning and lose them a lot of money. I don't think they'd let something like this get out if they wouldn't follow up on it.

Im real happy for you and Im gonna let you finish...but the BR took less skill to use than a DMR

its because when a developer makes a game, they have whats called a "developer copy", an internal build of the game which allows them to edit the game and make changes like this with minimal impact, the dev copies are internally named something different IIRC then the retail builds, which would show when you went to play the game (HUD would have a water mark image with your name, build # [of the game], and possible some hex values for XYZ position)

basically what happened is someone thought it'd be funny to take a picture with the developer build instead of the retail, they knew it would drum up speculation and make people more inclined to purchase it (Defiant map pack) in hopes of getting new armor

basically it boils down to a cheap underhanded marketing ploy to get uninformed gamers to buy a map pack they otherwise woudln't (and it worked too didn't it?)

EDIT: ok NOW is bead time

That's a dangerous game that would work well in the short term (Defiant Map Pack) But would make them suffer in the long term (Halo 4). I just hope you realize how wrong you are when you get t-bagged by some 4 year old in the coming months wearing the new armor.

Alright I remember the Beta and in juggernaut the flame trail was not there sure your spartan was on fire but there was no trail of fire like there is now. The whole overshield deal is new since the playlist update. You may be right about the whole armor deal. I prefer to speculate and when I see an "official" statement then I will stop.

AGREED. The Flame trail power up trait as well as being able to put a flaming flag on your back wasnt possible before this playlist update.

IF IT WAS then modders would have been wearing Haunted, flame streak powerup, flaming flag on their back and incliment weather /blue flames.. They always put as many cool things on at once as they possibly can.

Bungie ADDED these things to the gametype and im sure they have some new tricks that allow them to modify things beyond what we currently understand =)

From now on IF YOU DONT work for bungie dont come in here and say things arent possible.. unless you actually work for them you cant prove they havent found a way to add such things =)

Seriously Oak, Ive been doing this -blam!- for 16 years, gimmie my Friggen starter Pokemon and dont call me till im the champion! ¬_¬

Have you lot seen the new Red vs Blue trailer?

Its wishful thinking, seeing how almost none of it actually remains from in game anymore and is all CGI rendered, but there was some new helmets and armour in there

It just comes down to the borderline of what they developed themselves and what they get for being BFF's with bungie :P

Okay, absolutely everything you have said, I won't argue, all the technical stuff, you seem to know your stuff, so I won't try and take that away from you, but the one thing I will bit-ch about is the fact that there is giant freaking picture of this "New Helmet"...

Now I know, you've said it's a Developer Build, and I'm willing to accept that...as a possibility, yeah it's a possibility someone decided to be a smart-ass and upload a picture of a Developer Build Armour Permutation, but I sincerely fuc-king doubt anyone would be that monumental-y moronic...

"Hey...you know ALL THOSE PEOPLE that want New Armour, huh, maybe we should take a picture of some New Armour they've never seen to falsely advertise New Armour so they blindly have faith in getting it, but really, they never ever will..."

"Sounds great Bill...(!)"

Seriously, I'm not calling you an idiot for suggesting this as a possibility, I'm just saying you're pretty silly if you genuinely believe a new Company taking the Reigns of Halo could do something this damn daft...

Subject: New helmet spotted in Defiant Map pack

Those with the new downloaded armor could only play with players who have the same downloaded armor, or the games would not be able to load, they would have to make that new armor free for download to everyone or you'd be limited to who you'd have to play with.

It's like with fable 3, you cannot play co op with people who don't have the DLC you do.

Even though it's been said to death and re-birth, a simple update for the game would allow everyone to see it, but the DLC itself would allow access to the Armour...then again, that's assuming it even happens, and happens in this specific manner...

it doesnt exist...modders have looked at the map files, and have applied prior knowledge

at this point denying the truth is on scale with believing the great journey actually transcends oneself to godhood

and remember otto is a SHARED account kids, he clearly stes in the PM sent to him that it would be a 9gig patch requiered, then makes a post saying "don't tkae my word for it"

wouldn't the logical thing been in the PM he replied to said at the end of it "but thats what i figure, im not an expert" or something along those lines

at this point its damage control on Bungie's end so people don't get disheartened by the truth, so they have this shared account go "maybe yes, maybe no"

if you still honestly believe armor can be added through a map or achievements at this point you're mentally unfit for society
